Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

I just spent the last two hours in the dark because of a power outage. The power and internet's back on and everyone is going to bed...go figure!

I'll leave the proper write up for Elmo, he does it so wonderfully (thanks Elmo!).

But I heard about Tito this morning, and this has been going through my head ever since.

The Jackson 5- I want you back

Heard this on the radio when I was going to the mall.

Cool Shake, Del -Vikings

Boy, it was a bitch tracking down this song! This song blew me away when they released it.

I love the lyrics too... 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Turn this one up.

Van Halen - Me Wise Magic

Reading the various comments brings back a lot of memories of how absolutely intoxicating this song was when I first heard it, and bought the CD, specifically for this song.

Yeah, it was a shame hearing about Tito's passing. He would have turned 71 on the 15th of next month. He certainly got a lot of name recognition over the years. Still, as I read up about him, he seemed the odd man out with the Jackson. He was certainly overshadowed by Michael, as well as Jermaine and Marlon. Tito was a decent guitar player, but apparently, when they were with Motown, the label didn't let him play guitar on any of the Jackson 5 albums; they opted for session players. He finally got to play on studio albums when they went to Epic in the mid-70s. Plus, while he sang backup on most of the songs, he apparently rarely sang lead on their songs; when he did, he was usually sharing vocals with either Michael and/or Jermaine. Reading on Wikipedia about the Jacksons' first album for Epic, for one the the tracks the note says: "All the brothers (except Tito) sing lead on track 8." And he didn't sing lead on any of the others, being done by Michael and Jackie instead.

He didn't release a solo album until about 8 years ago and I'm not familiar with it. So I have to play something by the Jacksons, even if Tito doesn't sing the lead. I opted to go with the title song from their "Goin' Places" album. Why? I had the 45 of this, and I always liked the song. It's upbeat and it sounds fun; I really like how the vocal harmonies are done, it's a really nicely crafted song. And, if you're so inclined, you can dance to it, too.

Here's to Tito, I hope he stays long in our memories.

Birthday wishes to the late, great B. B. King, born this day, September 16, 1925. Best known of the three "Kings of the Blues" (Albert and Freddie being the other two), he's the epitome, IMHO (and you're free to disagree), of a blues legend. He has a huge catalog of great music (his "Live at the Regal" is a masterpiece) so finding one song by him isn't easy. Of course, this is his best-known song.

This was another choice I had for B.B., it's so good I had to share it. It's a blues standard that's been done by countless players, but his version makes me almost forget all the others.

B.B. King - Rock Me Baby

This is the first song I considered posting for B.B. It's one of his earliest singles, and it sounds so good. His vocals are incredible on it, and, of course, his guitar work is not to be missed.

We're Gonna Rock, We're Gonna Roll - 1948
Song by Wild Bill Moore

Twas the year my late brother was born...

Years ago I had a friend of mine R.I.P ..that had a daughter named Melissa .
Just in passing I ask him Melissa is that a family name or what??
He told me no it's from The Allman Brothers song. R.I.P.my brother you made a good choice..

This is a great CD anyway, but this song just jumped out at me as so f-ing cool I could hardly stand myself. 🤣 🤣 🤣

In my humble opinion, it's even better turned up.

Allman Brothers Band - Southbound

I saw yesterday the passing of J.D. Souther (First Tito, now J.D., who's next as these seem to come in threes). He co-wrote some big hits for the Eagles, "Best of My Love", "Victim of Love", "Heartache Tonight", and "New Kid in Town" (list courtesy of Wikipedia). He had a couple top-10 hits of his own in the late 70s/early 80s but then kind of faded away by the mid-80s, not unlike a lot of artists, sadly. Anyways, this was his big hit.
