Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Suzi Quatro - Cat Size, 1974

On our way to Vegas today, my 16yo hooked my phone up to the car with Bluetooth, cranked it up, and started singing. I was surprised she knew this one!

WOW I haven't heard this one in ages! She had a very nice voice. Sort of a mellow blue feeling to me. That's Bigfoot for posting it. YOu go Leather!

I remember watching that episode of Happy Days, I thought she was so cool, she became kind of a hero to me then (I didn’t know who she was in real life). 🥰🥰🥰

… and Happy Birthday @barefootgirl69 !!! 🥰🥰🥰.
I saw Hottie created a thread for you already, but I am totally allowed to repeat myself. 🥰🥰🥰

To end the night...

Unchained Melody - 1965
Song by The Righteous Brothers
Hey Rj, This song always gave me chills. What a voice. He was righteous! Maybe it's because I was the original Old Navy!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Ebb Tide by the Righteous Brothers

And a slow one from the same group. Actually it's my favorite Temping Temps song
It's Summer by The Temptation.
I Love This Song and Melvin Franklin Base Voice was the very best. RIP. You're missed.

I need more... but I'm going to change it up.. some bass from the other legendary bass player from Motown... James Jamerson...

Enjoy...

Smokey Robinson - Going To A Go-Go

I better bring up The Temptations again... with James Jamerson on bass... the guitar and bass both on this are soooo tasty!

The Temptations - My Girl

How about some west coast work... The legendary Carol Kaye on electric bass on this track, and Chuck Berghofer on double bass (that walk is soooo cool)

Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made For Walkin'

Okay, you're so right. We need more Carol Kaye... okay... reportedly the opening bass theme that goes through the chorus was reportedly from Carol...

Sonny & Cher - The Beat Goes On

I think @Rj_1954 posted The Raiders, Indian Reservation a few days ago so I won't repeat it - but Carole Kaye played bass on that track as well.

So let's go with Joe Cocker with Carol laying down the bass on this killer tune...

Joe Cocker - Feelin' Alright

How about some Louie Shelton playing amazing flamingo style guitar on a pop hit? Crazy, baby!

The Monkees - Valleri

I love Smokey's singing on this song... so good.

And that's James Jamerson laying down the bass on this one.

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Shop Around

What's that I hear? "Gosh Brenda, how come you haven't posted Marvin's masterpiece with James on it?"

You're absolutely right.... slip on in this groove...

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine
BrendaBear, you sent me down a rabbit hole / the Grapevine. I was curious about other versions. I was always fond of CCR's 11-plus minute version. (Stu Cook, I looked it up because my memory is shot).

Along the way, I discovered that James also played bass on the Gladys Knight and the Pips version.

I used to know a guy here in Lit who claimed he knows Stu Cook. I believe him, because if you were going to claim to know a famous musician, you wouldn’t choose someone that only a old CCR fan who is also a bass player (like me) would know. 🥰🥰🥰

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - 1964
