Old School Musicianship… Rock and Roll.. Jazz… Blues… Big Band even…

Yeah... we need some Sam and Dave for thanks day... turn it up, baby

That's Steve Cropper on guitar, and Duck Dunn layin' down that killer bass.

At this point, they were part of Booker T and the MGs, later they were in The Blues Brothers Band

Sam & Dave - I Thank You

There's something really cool about the sound of the the early Stones work. Later on, they had better production (which I love), but something about their early stuff, maybe the way the room echo's (or doesn't and it was a reverb room), whatever... just a really cool sound overall.

The Rolling Stones - 19th Nervous Breakdown

Another tune with that some sound, probably recorded during the same sessions. And I looked it up, these were recorded in California in '65

The Rolling Stones - Get Off Of My Cloud

Fast forward to 1973... and from the first chord from Billy Preston on keys, this song just has such a cool rhythm.

Walking into the quite house.... click on the power amp... turn it up... play this song.... oh yeah!

The Rolling Stones - Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)

Time for some Canadians... @TANSTAAFL58 tells me these guys actually pronounce Toronto correctly.

The Kings - This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide
I love that somg because they pronounce the name of my hometown correctly: Teronna (Toronto) rhymes with "Little Donna"

Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise for the other Canadian National Anthem, Home for a Rest by Great Big Sea The Cowboy Junkies Blue Rodeo Spirit of the West (IYKYK)

I tried to give my kids a good grounding in music. I gave my son Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waites, Gordon Lightfoot, The Beatles, the Stones, Jimmy Buffett, The Eagles and on and on. (Plus lots of Canadian acts like David Wilcox and Downchild Blues Band you likely never heard of). In return he introduced me to Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats, "Son of a Bitch"

I think it worked.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.

Arlo Guthrie deserves a Grammy for rhyming "Motor-sickle" with "Pickel" in "The Motorcycle Song". Now THAT is folk music.

But, today, only one song will do. Grab the last of the wine from dinner and a slice of pumpkin pie and enjoy all 18 minutes of "Alices Restaurant".

RIP Alice.

One of their many bests!!! This song really rocks for me. Love the Stones!!

Listened to a oldies station this AM while dressing and heard this one. I have to share it with you all.
Put on your dancing shoes!
Sparkletones performed "Black Slacks"

And now for a slow Cha cha! The band really complements the words to this song! IMO and he was so cute! Again, in IMO!
Only With Every Breath I Take by Gene Pitney

The magnificent Clarence Gatemouth Brown & Roy Clark, with Leon Rhodes (of Ernest Tubb’s Texas Troubadours fame) on guitar and Cal Freeman on pedal steel guitar.

Roy's solo Malaguena - incredible:

After hearing that song, I had to hear more from him.
I'm Gonna Be Strong by Gene Pitney

His voice was like a Tonnato!

You’re Sixteen, You’re Beautiful (and You're Mine) - 1951
