OOC: A new superhuman team.

Hello, am new here. Please let me know if this character is welcome.

Character Name: Catrina Sato

Husband Matsu (Matt) Sato - died prematurely of a heart attack, over a year ago
Parents and brother killed in auto accident, age 9

Matt had been the clown of their high school group, having a love of science coupled with a skill for more active hobbies (be it athletics or drama) he hopped from sub-group to sub-group, always an entertainer and acting as the glue that held everyone together.

Catrina learned about loss at a young age when her parents and older brother Nick died in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. She stopped speaking then. Raised by her grandmother in a comfortable environment she concentrated on academics and works of fiction, finding that some of her greatest happiness came through her characters. It wasn’t until the morning of April 16 in her 15th year that she found she could hear her grandmother’s thoughts when they brushed shoulders. What grew from there was a form of psionic communication that seemed possible only through contact and with the few people who were both receptive and close.
At college Catrina received double degrees in bio-chemistry and creative writing, then went on to gain her masters in neurophysiology. She dropped out of medical school when into her second year and instead chose to concentrate on her writing, having had several short stories published in various magazines.
It was when working on a piece of fiction, which combined psychic prowess with aeronautic technologies, that she sought out Matt for research purposes. (Matt was an aeronautics engineer.)
They became close quickly, he intrigued by her ideas and both of them entertained by the attempts to establish communication without an interpreter. They didn’t touch minds until after their marriage 6 months later, but once they’d done so they found themselves strangely in synch and happy.

Out respect for her husband’s memory and an understanding of his love for his former classmates Catrina has chosen to break the news of his passing in person.

Latent Abilities: Mind Over Matter – though already partially manifested in limited telepathy her abilities, once activated, will encompass a full spectrum of mental illusions - from projected emotions, to longer range telepathy, to confusing minds with non-existent stimuli that can assault the five senses. Additionally, she will learn how to use a protective psi-shield that has the ability to reflect energies.

Is it alright if I become a part of this thread as it sounds like something I would love to be a part of.

If it is okay I will work on a character and jump in as soon as I can.

Hey, I don't mind at all! I think that, to add a little supprise to Robert, he could have last spoken to Alexander just before he went through the gender alteration, but knowing of his desire to do so. That sound ok?

Fine by me, just didn't want to force anything on you.

Side note, no one has mentioned ages, myself included. So mid 20's, early 30's late 20's, mid 30's? I figure it must be atleast 6 or 8 years out of highschool. (Not sure if this has any relivance other then geting every one in about the same time frame.)

Here is my character, I hope that he is good enough

Greg Anthony
24
6' 3"
210lbs
Black with white highlights hair
Light blue flecked with green eyes

Latent ability: Able to disappear completely although he has to concentrate hard to do so because if his concentration wanes he becomes visible and vulnerable.

Greg was a normal young boy until one day he was being chased by bullies and suddenly disappeared. The experience scared him so much that he did not want to think about it and shut himself off from everyone. He was then caught in a robbery and his ability came to the surface again which saved his life.

I'll have to change my character if they're that young. Which is fine since she hasn't been accepted yet anyway.

I had assumed they were about 10 years out of school and close to their regular reunion, which would make this more selective get together seem natural. Y'know, like a pre-reunion for the "old crowd".
ages 28 & 29

Name: Veronica "Roni" Van Der Waal
Height: 7'1"
Weight: 210 lbs.
Eyes: Baby Blue
Hair: Platinum Blonde
Complexion: Caucasian, Clear Skinned

Once a spunky, red headed, and freckle faced tomboy, Roni has not taken her transformation into an amazon sex object very well. A single day after a casual and accidental brush against Elliot Richards in a hallway, Roni grew from a slim 5'5" to her current well honed 7'1", her melanin took a hit leaving her pale and unmarred, and her eyes went a few hues brighter. After the initial shock, and a week spent at the hospital while her parents got her new clothes and her condition was examined, she tried to reintigrate back in school but was unable to deal with the attention and thus completed school at home with tutors. She is still behind in school, as she wanted to go to a university where nobody had heard of her, a difficult thing to find. She uses her powers to support her family who are now able to live a much better lifestyle.

Power: Super Vitality, Roni is so literally and perpetually full of life that it is spilling out of her. She can heal wounds simply by breathing over them and her blood and tears can work miracles. Concerned that her powers might be exploited, her parents hired a lawyer who was able to get her blood samples kept at the hospital destroyed. She offers her powers to cure disease and major injuries for a hefty fee, though she will help children for free.

I'm brand new on this board, but I'd love to join in your story.

Have you given any thought to villains? I'd love to torment your little party of do-gooders...

Here's what I've come up with, submitted for your approval:

Clifton Sinclair IV, the spoiled little rich boy who always sat at the back of the class and silently mocked your bourgois chattering, was not invited to your little reunion. None of you were allowed into Cliff's twisted private life, however, and did not know of the demented, hateful mind that lurked behind his icy glares...

Cliff was orphaned at the age of fifteen, when his parents were killed in a mysterious fire in their mansion. He registered no remorse or surprise at the news of his parent's passing, but rumors that he started the fire were suppressed in the media. What did suprise little Cliff was that his parents' extensive wealth was not immediately bequeathed to him, but was tied up in a trust fund managed by his greedy uncle. This is how Cliff came to be transferred from his prestigious private school to the mundane halls of your alma mater. By the time Cliff was able to arrange an accident for his uncle, the bulk of the estate had been squandered, leaving a paltry sum that would not allow Cliff to pay his way through college. Luckily, he discovered a gift for the art of fencing, and was able to obtain a scholarship to make up the difference.

After graduating with a degree in biology, Cliff attempted to gain entrance to medical school, where he hoped to be a surgeon so that he could rebuild a fraction of his parents' wealth while indulging in his facination with sharp objects. He was rejected by every school to which he applied, however, and was forced to take a job, ironically, teaching in the very same high school he had loathed as a student.

On the evening of your reunion, Cliff realizes that he has forgotten his briefcase in his classroom, and returns to retrieve it. Hearing voices from the gym, he decides to investigate, and barges in on your gathering. Attempting to assert his imagined authority, he confronts your group and demands that you leave. When Elliott attempts to reason with Cliff, there is a scuffle, and Elliott inadvertently activates Cliff's X-gene, creating the first super-powered villain in the world.

Cliff is confused by the event, and disappears into the night. Over the following days, he learns how to focus his new-found power. He discovers that by making physical contact with other humans, he can absorb their thoughts and abilities for a period of several hours (much like the X-Men's Rogue, except that the subjects retain their abilities after the transfer and do not suffer loss of consciousness or any other negative effects). He uses his abilities for a series of petty thefts in order to finance the creation of a hidden laboratory, a costume, and an array of edged metal weapons which also act as conduits through which he can use his power as long as he and the subject are simultaneously in contact with the metal. He emerges as the Examiner, and acts out plots to achieve his nefarious ends of gaining power and wealth through whatever means necessary.

I imagine a plotline somewhere along the line where the Examiner would absorb Elliott's power of activating X-genes, then go out and create his own band of super-powered lackeys by activating abilities in weak-willed, corrupt, and power-hungry conspirators.

I fully understand if you wish to keep the villains under your own (NPC) control, and if that is the case, you are more than welcome to use this character yourself. I'd be happy just to read it (although it is always delicious to play the villains!).

Thanks!
Voilodion

Good character, the creepy thing is that it's just the kind of thing Morgoth or myself might have come up with. Welcome to the RP forum by the way.

Yep, Cats, Elliot will be surprised. If anything, he would have thought that the address name had simply been a typo, so ,your character would have a good indication that he does not no, because he would have still addressed his letter to Alex, not Alexis. ;) (Detective work, ain't it great?)

Looks good Label. Correct me if I'm wrong, but here is how I am gathing your character's power works. Its an excelerant, you cause things to happen more quickly than natural? Say, you use your power on a car battery, you could cause it to lose its charge in mere seconds, rather than the several years it would normally function? Is that right?

Grand Mage, you made me laugh aloud! Again though, just to clarify, what the x-gene stimulation does to Ryan. Sounds to me like you are saying that it takes away all the normal biological functions of a normal human body, and turns him into a living steel all the way through? So, no need to eat, sleep, and so on? Not even the capability to do so? Again, correct me if I am getting it wrong. :)

Kamal, I like your bio. What do you think of having it so Kamal is reluctant to join at first, until he see's how everyone else is getting these amasing transformations, so unique and interesting, and thats when he decided to go through with it, so when all he gets is hightened agility and reflexes, he secretly feels a little cheated? LOL! Kinda like a "I went to cancun and all I got was this crappy tee shirt" feeling? LOL! Not that super human agility is something to sneeze at, just in comparison, it would seem kinda... Mundane. ;)

Genoine, this should be cool, having a character that has already manifested at least a portion of her power. Normally, I would say that Elliots power wouldn't do anything to her, but I like the idea that even if you have some power already, what he does is open a sort of flood gate in your genetics releasing EVERYTHING thats in there. How do you feel about the idea of her having trouble keeping her powers in check, like she could go hours unable to filter out the thoughts of others so its like the constant clammor of a football stadium in her mind, or something like that?

Angelus, you're always welcome. One thing though, Your power isn't supposed to be active until Elliot's power triggers it, thats the whole reason he's got all the characters coming to the high school reunion. And just to clarify on your power. Is it just invisibility, or is it a combination of invisibility and intangibility? That would be so weird, just one step away from nonexistance. Spooky.

Cats, I was thinking along the lines of tenth anniversary reunion. Hows that sound?

Bunnies, do you want Elliot to know that he activated Veronica's powers, or would you prefer that he not know for some reason? If you would be interested, maybe it could have been something like a highschool relationship that went bad because of how his powers, that he didn't really know about himself had caused her life to be screwed? Which could lead to one of two paths after high school. Being kinda estranged from each other, or carrying on a long distance relationship perhaps?

Voilodion, I do need a villain, but I am not too keen on the idea of having a power copying mutant. How would you feel about applying what I had written earlier in this thread about the first time Elliot used his power. He touched the bully who ripped his text book apart? I did state that they became friends, but that could have all been an act on Cliffs part, in order to simply understand what Elliot had done to him. And now that they have had ten years away from high school, Cliff has been doing his own thing, learning how to use his power to turn into "Living water" Think about it. Its really not that bad of an idea, and seeing as you would have had the time to learn about the things you can do, you can start out with a lot more trick. ;) Let me know what you think.

Oh, and sorry about the monster post guys, hopefully everyone of you reads what I wrote to you. :)

Hey I got two replies.

Since it is dubtful that Alex graudated at the ripe old age of 14, she will be 27, not 24. Thank you for the clear up.

Hmm ... Looks like almost all the heavy hitter are pondering/posting in this thread ... If I think up something, I'll post it here ... If not ... *shrugs* ... I'll be reading yer thread w/ enjoyment ...

I was thinking that they might have been on friendly terms but as she was a bit of a tomboy I think the old line from the Adventures of Pete and Pete is appropriate, "She's a girl and she's a friend, but she's not my 'girlfriend'.". Because Elliot is a smart guy even if he wasn't immediatly aware of what happened to Roni he probably would have figured it out when she returned to school for one week as a seven foot tall blonde before disappearing for the rest of the school year.

I was planning on doing something similar anyway.
However, I don’t know how long the floodgate could remain broken before she went insane – it’s not all that fun playing a character that has to stay locked in a room and sedated. ;)
I was thinking that instead it could be like a random cycle she has to learn to control.
Sometimes she gets a flood, other times a trickle. Sometimes everybody in the immediate vicinity is forced to hear/see her thoughts (especially when she dreams) and sometimes her thought “direction” misses its target and hits someone else - oops.
Would that be an acceptable alternative?

I also have a request, assuming you or another has the time.
There are several characters already in play and since I’m new I’m having a tough time keeping them straight.
Was wondering if we could post some sort of roster with basic information like:

Player
Character name
X Abilities (just the label)
Occupation
Former School Affiliation
(also a small pic too if that’s possible)

I started one for myself, but I think having something on-line could be a benefit to almost everyone involved.

I was going to have it so that his power comes out when he least wants it to happen and it scares him so he stays away from people.

As for his power I was thinking a little bit of both. He can go invisible but if he really concentrates he can go intangible but he has to think about coming back or he will disappear.

He still has the capacity to sleep. And since his eyes are his only sensory organ, it would require prying one open and applying bright light to force him awake.

However, no, he doesn't have to sleep. He becomes this living "steel-like" material all the way through.

He can still exercise and become "stronger" through variations in his body which act like the different cells in the human body, but his x-gene mutation basically starts a chain reaction which alters his very being on a genetic level.

He is no longer Ryan, but Ryan's mind trapped in some sort of indestructible cage.

So once this power awakens, he's going to need some work to him to "let's fight crime!" mode, because his first reaction will be one of horror. I mean, just imagine. No mouth, no digestive system, no ears, hair falls out, body erases now meaningless biological features.

Ryan will probably be the foremost member of the team looking for a way to undo the awakening of the x-gene.

Yeah. That is one way it could manifest. Another would be aging something, sich as if her hands were tied up, the rope would age until she could break it, or handcuffs would rust ... It would also be an interesting way to create "artifacts" aging something to reduce the amount of Carbon-14 so that when tested it shows a different age.

It would also do interesting things with plutonium and uranium... but lets not go there yet. ;)

She wouldn't be able to cause spontaneous combustion, but she would be able to get the charcoal in the grill ready faster.

Off handedly I'd like to say that is what this thread is for. Normaly it takes a bit of searching for any given character in particular those who joined late, allowing the OOC board to build up. Some people do make a simle board with Player and character, I personaly don't use them but others may. The simplest aid I recamend is Placing the characters name in the title section, it helps alot, but for any detail I feel your often beter off finding their bio.

Yes, I noticed the names in the titles, but that wasn't enough to bring their back-stories to mind.
Also, since people don't always seem to describe their appearances or environemnts in detail it may be tough to fix an image of who/what my character might be dealing with, which bugs me.
It's fine though, I'll just continue with my own sheet.

Sure thing, I'm flexible (and, apparently, my character will be too).

Let me simmer on it a bit and I'll unleash Cliff's demons on your crew when the time is right. I'm figuring he'll arrive just as Elliot starts to get down to business in his meeting.
