OOC for Post-Apocalyptic RP

Wow... That's a lot of shit that's happened...

I was thinking... How far away are our characters going to be from one another?

Questions...

I know that North America is like the only power... what are the living conditions as compared to the rest of the world?

I'd say that the rest of the world is pretty much abandoned and devoid of human life, except for the occasional nomadic, rapacious, salvager/Road Warrior-types.

North America survives mostly intact, except:
~ men are very few and far between, and heterosexual, fertile/potent men are even rarer still

~ the pre-apocalyptic population is mostly replaced with refugees/immigrants, who are mostly women from countries that had a greater biological/physiological resistance to the retrovirus.

~ the level of commonly available technology is equivalent to that found in the 1980s, with some common-sense modifications according to the fact that women are now in political power and petroleum is no longer an affordable, safe, viable energy source.

Thank you for your compliment. It's a combo between myself (the SCAer) and my aunt (the bow hunter). She's got like 50 trophies she's won.

I would think that since the Husks feed on rust major cities would be abandoned, and cars tricky, yes?

Can't really trust a 5 story building if the support beams have been eaten....

Perhaps we met at a refugee camp?

That makes sense to me! :)

This would be even more true outside North America, where the absence of humanity would accelerate the decomposition of such structures.

I think it would have been easy if North America wasn't the surviving superpower, but at this time, and from the little knowledge I have, it made sense that, if any countries would survive, it would be North America that would find a way to do so.

And about your Aunt... 50 TROPHIES?! Holy smacks. That's impressive. If your character is based upon her, then, YEAH, baby -- WELCOME ABOARD!!

Our group will have MEAT to eat! YAY!!!!

Now, if we can only find someone who can farm some potatoes and vegetables... and churn butter... and brew some root beer.
:p
I'm hungry now. Will post more later.

You're in the SCA eh polite? so am i.
the military is not to make him a hard fighting man, it's simply an explanation for survivl training. he never was a good soldier hah.

if there are issues let me know and i'd be more than happy to change whatever you'd wish.... though i might frown at a name change to "molly"

Name: Jacques Reneau (ex-French Canadian)
Sex: Male
Age: 26
Profession: Off-shore cod fisherman.
Appearance: Thick, Heavy flannel jacket in plaid with tough inline. Canvas dark blue pants, again made to be durable and heat retaning. Also usually wears a black tuque.

Background:
Jacques was a rebellious teenager, leaving his parents who wished him to join his father on the oceans when he as 18 to join the Canadian military. his first tour went relatively uneventfully, and Jacques descided to become a career military man, heading on peace keeping missions, and mobilized to places he never actually saw enemies. this all changed two years into his second tour when the fanatics began making their grabs for nuclear ordinance. While his friends had been stationed tyo guard nuclear payloads, and to make raids on the fanatics, Jacques had been placed to guard and escort food shipments, which left him seeing absolutely no action whatsoever. All the news he had heard from his comrades guarding actual important sites were those of failure and death. Jacques came to see his babysitting job here as a blessing, and feared reassignment to certain death. So he packed his things up and headed home, finally taking his parents up on learning the trade of off-shore fishing, strangey content that he had never once fired his weapon after boot camp.

Now, Jacques still has his military equipment, but keeps them locked away, realizing now that they worth far more as tradeable items than they are as weapons and gear, he never once used them in the service, why would he need them out of it? He still goes out on fishing trips, this time for himself, and to sell directly to people who need the food, as the farming industries had been crippled.

Still devoted to his previous lifestyle Jacques heads inland when hearing of people in trouble, hoping to help them out. He's no Macguyver, and he's no Rambo, the service never took him into any kind of situation like that, but you never know what you can do to help people.

Skills: extreemly limited combat and survival skills learned from boot camp as a teenager, old lessens, never tried, and never tested. Is proficient with weapons that are now no longer feasable to use as weapons. has a tactical mind, and the combination of traveling inland, and away from his safe coastal town, and his survival training make him a good "outdoorsman". He also has some idea about concealment and stealth.

Gear: has the potential use of a boat. carries durable and warm clothing with a large pack on his back containing sleeping gear and general supplies. he wears steel-toed boots, but has wrapped leather covering strips that bind around the backpack that he uses to silence the sound of his steps when be believe danger is close. he prefers to avoid trouble rather than meet it head on.

Awesome character profile, Khadgar!

I guess we can expect to add some seafood to our daily menu? :)

Oops, I Suck At Math.

I just realized that the numbers I posted for the mortality rates were inconsistent and erroneous.

Here's what I was trying to say, or should have said:

~ The world currently has a population of approximately 6.5 billion people.

~ Let's assume, for simplicity's sake that both genders have roughly equal numbers (thinking global scale). For simplicity's sake again, let's say that this breaks down to approximately 2 billion men, 2 billion women and 2.5 billion children who are pre-adolescent and younger.

~ The First Year's Retrovirus Death Toll:
** 1,998,000,000 men (adolescent and older) succumb to the retrovirus in the first year

** 1 billion women (adolescent and older) succumb to the retrovirus in the first year

** In the next twenty years, 1.25 billion boys and 500 million girls succumb to the retrovirus sometime during or shortly after adolescence.

** Of the original 4 billion post-adolescent adults who were alive before the retrovirus, only 1 billion women and 2 million men resisted the retrovirus.

** Of the original 2.5 billion pre-adolescent children who were alive prior to the retrovirus, only 625 million girls and 2.5 million boys successfully resisted the retrovirus past adolescence.

** Violence, disease, famine, and most importantly, a lack of fertile/potent, heterosexual men further contribute to the continuous decrease of the human population.

** Final Tally of the World's Population, 20 Years After the RetroVirus: 1,629,500,000 (Best Optimistic Calculation)

Do you insist that we say it? Or can we just say "I was minding my own business and this shit hit the fan and now I'm here?"

Yup. I like your version better. So, uhhh... Nevermind. LOL! :D

Upon further review, it seems that my opening post in the IC thread didn't leave much opportunity for people to join.

I changed my post, and hope it is a sufficient improvement. If not, please let me know! :)

sorry

Sorry guys and gals, been real busy at work will be back on tonight. alot to catch up on,
cheers.

have been looking for a really cool RP to join, and I think I found it!

Name: Victor vonBraun
Sex: Male
Age: 30
Profession: ex-Road Warrior, treasure hunter
Appearance: 6'3", 200lbs, light blond hair, long mutton chops, wears a patch-leather trenchcoat, leather biker pants, tank top,and cowboy boots.

Background: Victor was just a little boy when the world ended. He has little to no memories of his parents, and if he had brothers and sisters. He was the only male in his town who survived the retrovirus. As he scratched his way through life, he was adopted by the Road Warriors. He spent most of his young adulthood in the gang, and suffers from slight radiation posioning. when he was in his late twenties, his clan of Road Warriors came under attack from a military convoy in North America, and Victor was the only survivor. Slipping away from the patrols, he wandered into a town where no one knew him. Deciding that it would be too dangerous to join another clan, he decided to take up the call to find "treasures", lost technology. For the past several years he has been wandering the landscape, looking for profit and adventure

Skills: Victor is very knowledgable in the tactics of Road Warriors and in lost technology. He is accustomed to the "rough life" and is not afraid to get his ahnds dirty to get the job done.

Equipment: Victor carries a beanbag shotgun (from his Road Warrior days) slung across his back. He has a Gurka Kukri in his right boot. He carries a rucksack filled with sparse camping and survival supplies. He travels with a tall walking stick, with a grapefruit sized head at the top.

OOC: if anything in his background does not jive, just let me know. BTW, do they need to be approved before we can post?

Darrel James
42

Darrel always seemed to be a lucky sort of guy. When he was told the odds of males surviving what happened, he knew he was in some weird .001 percent group of living males, which made him feel that luck was on his side more than anything.

He began testing this theory. He would go out, plan raids, looking for women, technology, army supplies. Everything he wanted to find, he did. He joined up with the road warriors, using them to take over a military base for the precious items there inside. He left the warriors soon after that, with a rugged scar across his face, leaving him with only one good eye.

He wears a patch, and still considers himself lucky, mostly because few escape the Road Warriors, and for Darrel to leave with only the small effect of no more depth perception seemed a lucky thing indeed.

Now, he travels, finding out who can best his luck. He wanders aimlessly, unsure where to go, or what to do, but always betting, gambling, trying to find his next adventure.

Um.... go ahead and post... Jackhammer hasn't been on for a while, probably on a business trip...
