OOC: Loa Blood

hmmmmmmmmmmm

well, I think of it in these tearms
1) you have a instant-kill power, & as a GM of many RPG's I'd nix that
2) if your familiar with champions, make a 150pt chracter, & thats what we have here (roughly)

Ehh, I don't really think it's an instant kill power... I've never played champions, unfortunately, but here's how I thought of it working...

One round of me holding somebody's forearm: Burn damage occurs. Starts to hurt.

Two rounds: Skin starts to burn away and I begin to reach the actual flesh. Starts to REALLY hurt, really messing concentration.

Three rounds: Flesh and veins start to burn away. The limb begins to lose functionality.

Four rounds: Bone starts to burn away.

Five rounds: Bone burns away and limb falls off.

That's about thirty seconds of holding somebody... and that would be hard to accomplish. Besides, it's a touch attack, which makes it hard to deal with also. It's not like "I touch you, your flesh melts away, and you die." I'm not that dumb. ^_^

I'm thinking repair/healing takes about twice as long, because it involves gathering the particles from the air as well.

EDIT: Yeah, I reread what I wrote, and I wasn't as clear as I thought I was. The damage takes a long time, combat wise, to really start to take effect. Grabbing someone would be painfully distracting, but unless my character was somehow able to put them in a headlock or something (I could make that option more difficult by making my character not very muscular), using the burn method as a powerful attack would not really be practical. It was more for the philosophical concept than a useful attack. ;)

Great, I'm glad you think it's okay. I'll just wait until ST comes back, and read up on the IC thread, then. ^_^

Hahaha, sure, the more the merrier, I suppose.

I'm still not sure whether I should play a boy or a girl, though. I might want to play a boy this time around...

It'd be werid of your PC and my Mary got into a bitch slapping fight, since she's in a state of flux and heals when she shifts.

Okay, here's my refined idea--

NAME: Kell Claudas
GENDER: Male
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: Dirty-blond hair that almost looks bleached but is natural; somewhat slender and of medium height; handsome in a boyish way. Wears dark clothes and has an attractive smile, when he deigns to smile at all.
POWER: Shiva Hands

DESCRIPTION

Kell was orphaned at the age of thirteen when both his parents were killed in a car crash. He stayed with his bachelor uncle, a scientist in the Loa research division, in the same city for four more years, until his uncle's untimely death due to accidental exposure to Loa Blood. Kell, being the one who found the body, was also exposed to the Loa Blood, and after he called the police, he began to transform and fell into a fit of madness, fleeing the scene and waking up not remembering what he did during that period. Kell has few remaining relatives, but the police might still be looking for him just as a key witness -- though the cause of death of Kell's uncle seems obvious.

Kell has always been a quiet young man, well-liked but not intimately known by most of his friends. Having to deal with the meaningless death of his parents and his brusque and unloving uncle has caused him to mature quickly, and he is thus out of place with most of his peers in the senior class. He is a deep thinker for someone as young as himself, and the very paradoxes that he confronts in his own life have given birth to his strange power.

The Shiva Hands are thus named because Shiva, like his bride Kali, is a god of creation, destruction, and purification. Kell's hands act in this fashion. When Kell focuses, his right hand becomes capable of burning and disintigrating anything he touches, turning the material into a soapy mixture which then coalesces into dust. The process is not rapid, so it is not a powerful attack per se, but the burning can be very painful when applied to bare skin, even if only for a few moments. Kell's left hand, however, does the exact opposite -- repairing and recreating material on the object he touches by drawing from the particles in the air and around him. Damaged materials can be reformed, and damaged tissues can be restored. More capabilities may be acquired with some more experience with his powers.

Kell fled from his house only a week ago, and has been wandering the streets. He turned eighteen two days ago.

His school year is basically over, though he is about to miss his final exams. He doesn't care that people might be looking for him -- it's a big city. At least people should know he's innocent, since he was the one who called and described the situation. For now, he wants a job...

I like the character, Jacobo. Feel free to jump right in anytime. Maybe you could find young Mary before the group does?

Power level seems okay, as long as we remember that it takes time for her to disintegrate anything, and that she's only disintegrating the part of the object/person that she's touching with her hand. It would kill if you grabed someone by the throat, skull, or chest, but more often your enemies are just going to need replacement limbs. It shouldn't be any more deadly than what Monolith or Ghost can already do.

I like the Shiva's hands idea (a lot), but remember that this is an alternate world. That means there's no India, and no Indian Pantheon. It's cool if this world has a god of creation and destruction named Shiva, just remember that it's not the same god Shiva that we know. (The same holds true for Ghost's Yin Yang). The Amun people (Sugar's race) believe in many ancient gods, and Shiva could be part of their pantheon (even if Kell is not Amunet himself).

On that note, if you live in Bay City (where the action is now), you are most likely Argon, which means coal-black skin flecked with gold. That's the norm in this country. If you don't want your character to look like that, there are lots of other possibilities. Bay City is a cosmopolitan place, where people from all over the world live. Sometime today I'll post a complete list of all the countries we've got going so far, and what's known about them.

If your Uncle was doing Loa blood research in Bay City, he probably worked for the Coda Corporation.

Boy or girl. We've got 4 girls (Kryna, Nikki, Sugar, Mary) and 4 guys (Damien, Dex, Monolith, Ghost), so take your pick (Did I forget anybody?). I guess you went with a guy, which is great.

I think that's it. Welcome aboard! And definaitely invite Arc. The more the merrier (although the more likely that you'll all have to be split up more often).

Here are the nations we know about so far. I'll post this at the beginning of the OOC thread too, for new people coming in.

Argo: Eastern continent. Largest, most powerful country. Bay City is on the south-west coast, near Dracon Island. Home of the Coda Corporation. Argons have coal-black skin with flecks of gold.

Aralia: Part of the Argon supercontinent. High technology. Many Aralian immigrants to Argo have formed the Killer Bee gang. Aralians have silver hair. (Nikki)

Svetla: Southern continent with a land bridge to Argo. Made up of many small countries, all poor, overpopulated, arrid. Svetlanders have blood-red skin.

Phrygia: Western continent, shaped like a maple leaf, made up of many small countries. Most Phrygians have gold skin and black hair.

Locrir: Part of the Phrygian continent. Long known for it's art and culture, Locrir recently came under the control of a warmongering dictator. (Kryna)

Reva: Part of the Phyrygian continent. Allied with Locrir. (Dex)

Petang: Small Phrygian nation, recently taken over by Locrir.

Dracon Island: Off the coast of Argo, monarchic nation doing Loa research for the Argon Coda Corporation. Industrial accident left Dracon uninhabitable, a wasteland of mutant monsters. Most surviving Draconians have emmigrated to Argo. (Damien, Crown Prince)

Amun Island: Ancient belief in many animalistic gods. Loa experiments on humans. (Sugar)

Marrow Island: Small, out of the way island. No one really knows anything about them. Recently taken over by Argo. Marrowen have white hair. (Ghost)

While I'm at it:

The Wheel: Major world religion. Has come into question since the discovery of Loa disproves the Wheel's version of history, humanity and God.

GAIA: The Global Administrative Intelligence Authority. An international agency that tries (with little success) to keep global peace. GAIA operates the Loa digging station in the Antarctic, and distributes Loa Blood to it's member nations for study.

Coda Corporation: Argon-based research and technology company. Responsible for much of the country's Loa research, and for the Dracon Island disaster.

Glad you all got a chuckle. I was inspired by Swampy's PC Play in our Nobilis thread.

Hmmm... so where can Kell come from that would make him look the way he does? Should I just make up another country? I'd really rather not change his appearance...

actually, his appearance can be a product of the Loa, or his hair is dyed. You never specified skin color, so do what you want with where he is from

When I created his image I thought of him with pale skin, but I didn't see any nations there with pale-skinned people. Maybe I missed one... ^_^

I could change it, but I'd rather keep him the way I thought of him...

We don't have any pale-skinned people's yet, JC, so you could either make up a new country, or go with one of the existing ones and say that the Loa change made him pale, or he could just be an unusually pale Phrygian. Whatever you go with, he and his uncle should have been living and working in Argo, in Bay City, for some time.

Do you want to just wander into the characters, or do you want to be working with GAIA or Coda and sent to find them?

And Abraxas, if I'm not into being super-detailed, I'd hate to meet your idea of someone who is.

Oh, yeah, loved the song, Succubus.

Just wander into them. Kell wouldn't be working with anybody.

I'll make up a new country as Kell's area of ancestry in a little bit.

Fair enough, Abraxas. And I stand by my statement: I don't want to meet them. I know enough of that type already.
