OOC: X-Men

As far as Marvel, generally, they are killing the comic book industry.

They abused the "comic collecting" fad days of the 90s and instead of improving the quality of their product they put out crap that people bought until they realized it was crap and pretty much disgusted a potential audience.

Now they are not telling good stories period.

They are telling really bad company wide stories (House of M, Civil War) and they remind me of Pro Wrestling Announcers how they promote things.

"Issue 5 will have a scene that tears the internet in half!!!!" Bendis

Do you know what the scene was?

The resurrection of Hawkeye, who had been "killed" all of 6 months earlier.

Their stories are trash nowaday.

Some of the people we are rping in this thread don't even have their mutant powers anymore. Honestly, the only Marvel comics I still buy are Astonishing X-Men and Runaways. X-Factor is good but not a must buy.

There are a couple of other good books but most are not very good at all.

Killing kids to make a story "dramatic" so we can "feel the loss" will be the next trend in comics which is why I find "civil war" laughable.

Yeah, a parents sees Galactus about to destroy the planet one morning and a dumbass hero makes a mistake and the heroes are the ones you get pissed at?

Right.

1000 kids die, yeah that's bad in OUR world, in there's that's just a low level Magneto attack.

It's more than just that, it's also about senators who want to use Spider Man to whack the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso and stuff like that.

i've switched to Manga...

The only manga that doesn't make me want to cut off my own head and throw it down a well is Battle Angel Alita and it's sequal Battle Angel Alia Last Order.

If you want good comics you should get into manga/anime

Theres some really good stories ya know Naruto, Kenshin(my personal fav) sailor moon is alright (there is yuri) ummmm...Samuri Champloo is a good anime a bad manga though...oh ya and inyuasha is ok except for the girls voice is so annoying and she is always screaming "INYUASHA" it gets annoying...

The fact that characters die and are resurrected before their bodies even cool makes the stories ridiculous even for science fiction.

They remind me a lot of creators who instead of admitting when their ideas are stale, insist on trying to make the public buy the exact same thing over and over again.

I look at Runaways and see good writing and a creative idea.

Then I read House of M and see a decompressed (the story lagged on for ages) version of the Age of Apocalypse. Which they also brought back and ruined. In some cases just bringing back characters who'd been killed in the first crossover seemingly at random. *shakes head*

I know one of the things we'll have to discuss in the thread too are the depiction of power levels and skill level.

In the comics marvel is out of control and I'm worried the thread will approach that too.

I remember when there were really only 2 supremely powerful mutant characters.

Franklin Richards-who was a child and didn't care about anything but his toys. Plus, since he could alter reality he could actually just imagine himself without powers and that could always happen.

X-Man-He showed us why Sinister went through so much trouble to get Scott and Jean to hook up.

But even though they had great power they were so inexperienced they were't unbeatable.

But now? Mr. M whose powers are quite unimaginately godlike. Literally. He can control every kind of matter. Period making him seemingly like God.

Yeah, bet he took 3 seconds to come up with.

Then Rachel Summers Phoenix III.

Elixer from New Mutants whose power is to just heal which isn't an offensive power. But instead of acknowledging that not every mutation should render its holder into an unstoppable one man army the writers have recently appended that Elixer can not only heal but manipulate all forms of organic matter making him godlike.

Oh but there's more!

Vulcan, the new villain who they used to retcon years of X history, is constantly being said to be "Past Omega level!!!" to just instantly make himself into a threat.

Horrible writing. Just making up a character and saying "His power is....everything!" is ridiculous and the characters mentioned above are pretty close to that.

I never got into Manga. I art isn't really appealing to me.

I don't know how good the stories are. When I first got into comics the depth of the characters fascinated me as much as the story.

Now some of it is just crazy.

Did anyone hear about the Chuck Austin controversy when he wrote Uncanny X-Men and X-Men? I ask cause part of the controversy around him had to do with how he depicted sex in the x-books.

He's considered one of the worst x-writers ever. Recent story arcs have been so much like him than not unfortunately.

On the note of dead chars...LoL this is a poser

What about Spawn I mean he was dead but he came back to life!!!

But I do agree with the fact the every single mutant has to be a fucking god (MAGMA BECOMES VULCAN MWAHAHAHAHA HE IS A SUPER OMEGA NOW HE KILLS THE PRESIDENT) I can see that happening I was accually planing once he turned himself good to change his name to Vulcan you know after the God....

also Spider man died? they really have gone under...

But also Shaq uggernaut was a god before anyone (except for the guy with the open stomach) I forget his name But like the bottom part of his jaw is missing you know who I'm talking about ya what about him?

Juggernaut had a lot of things in his corner making him a good villain though.

-He was one of the FIRST characters created so it was ok to make him powerful because they weren't a hundred other characters trying to out compete each other for the distinction

-He had two glaring weaknesses: Intelligence and if his helmet was removed psi probes

-He had an BELIEVABLE connection to the X-Men because he hated Charles for being his own father's favorite and was always jealous. He also has an interesting psychological history because he was a bully but his father would abuse him

Mr. M on the other hand is just flat out said to have God's powers and he's a mutant. Just saying he's a mutant he can control everything is not creative, believable (even in fiction) or INTERESTING. He's God? Ok, he wins in a fight versus wolverine.

I'll save my money and buy an interesting story instead.

Vulcan in the comics is pretty bad too. Not only is he used to just further slime Charles Xavier's image (next issue Charles will be revealed to use his powers to further his life as a pedophile  ) he instantly just beats up the team despite those he faces are as large an assembled x-cast we've seen in a while. He faces off with different mutants from all 3 teams and just creams them.

Of course, he is beaten in one issue at the end though.

The most annoying thing is how the writers just write poorly. No one had to tell me Onslaught was the shit. When he knocked Juggernaut across the country that was some ill shit!!!

Vulcan? Every line is "He's way past Omega Level!"

"That guy we're fighting. He's past omega level!"

It's really getting bad.

And I'm quite happy you didn't make Magma into a God.

Frankly, the reason I was upset with you earlier in the thread was mainly the power levels.

Plain and simple: Godlike mutant powers make for dull stories.

A character can do anything and beat anyone end of story. Boring.

There is no struggle or conflict hence no real connection to human life (which is filled with....)

That is one of the reasons why I'm in favor of a new thread with clearer ideas on how we can have an rp where everyone portrays their chracters accurately

Good post Ithica.

"I don't think I have to worry about the zombies anymore" is excellent.

I  Manga ... I read ALOT of it ...

Though I love Inu Yasha I can not read the Manga ... I just don't like how they translated it ... It bugs me that they translate the honorifics ... I can sit thru the anime dubbed but not read the Manga ... Ranma 1/2 is the opposite, I can read the Manga but can't stand the anime dubbed ... *shudders*

It's just that every manga I pick up seems to be about transexuals, gay rockstars, giant robots, guys not having secks with their harem of robots/goddesses/alien cat girls, or "Crisis on Infinite Dragonball Z Clones". Battle Angel Alita on the other hand is tres chic, I've been keeping up with it for at least 10 years and each volume has something new and cool and I have yet to detect any errors in continuity.

As for marvel having lame stories, yeah for the most part I agree. I do think they have superior characters to DC though, but the current Superman storyline in which he's been depowered all the way back to his original roots could be promising.

Spoiler: Sp far he's demonstrated that he's more powerful than a locomotive, he's lept a tall building in a single bound, and has proven faster than a speeding bullet. Nostalgia...

Unrelated Notes containing spoilers: I checked out an issue of Fantastic Four Adventures and noticed that in Reed's lab there's a giant penny and a T-Rex statue...

In Batman/Superman 25 when all kinds of alternate supermen and batmen are being summoned, this dude makes a cameo: http://supermanreturns.ytmnd.com/

Because Ranma's voice actors such el royal and its increadibly disappointing when the lead character's off.

Loathe the new AMG because Bell looks like she has Downs syndrome.

yes, some shows get ruined by the dubbing....other shows get passable, but lose a lot in translation...for instance, Naruto's voiceovers, at least, for Naruto himself, creep me out.

Some notes: I'm assuming that the jet has to land to let Storm fly aboard, fantomex is again aiming Eva to make contact with the plane.

Guys, I'm getting a little worried about our rp battles here. There is no use in me rping a villain if you think good guys are automatically destined to win.

Not picking up Ithica's post was a tactical error. Fantomex knew where she was and left her but when you guys were ready to leave without her he went back for her.

He would have been between the jet and Storm.

So Fantomex flies Eva into the air and waits for Storm.

Vix said the jet was cloaked but then Ithica said she could see the jet which meant they uncloaked for her to get on.

The jet would have to land in order for Storm to board especially since J.D said he took off his belt and walked to the back of the jet.

So then Fantomex comes crashing down.

But my question is: How did Cable know where Eva was? She is just a machine and Fantomex's cowl blocks telepathy.

ah....forgot about that...*runs to edit* unless Eva would set of Proximity alarms

Which brings up an issue I was going to address after the thread but now is as good a time as any.

What jet is this!?

What jet has a cloaking device and proximity alarms?

If you say this is a military jet that Wizard was loaned that's fine but it will be brought up later I assure you.

If you mean the proximity alarms that register when another plane is drawing closer *shrugs*

I'm not so sure those alarms pick up things that aren't registering a signal that registers with Air traffic control over something. If they do then yeah, you would pick it up.

Still, I'm getting the overall impression that the feeling is you guys are SUPPOSED to beat Fantomex which isn't the case.

Your posts have to prove it.

it's the personal jet of a billionaire who often helps with work on military equipment....still, you're right about that. I'm just trying to get Storm on board before Fantomex sends the jet to the ground
