They say write about what you know. I agree. Kind of. If you want to challenge yourself, there's nothing wrong with that and you're never too old to spread your wings if that's what you desire to do. I try to challenge myself now and then. What I don't know? I research and research more.

I've had men scared off by how I write and especially after talking with them, to get to know them a little better, and they find out I'm a published author. Then they ask, 'What are you doing writing here?' Well, because I enjoy it. It helps keep my mind sharp (Hush Logan. *grins* ) and keeps my brain lubricated with words. I also tell them that the only way they're going to get better is to keep writing and if their ego can hold up, write with someone who is good. That's an excellent way to learn.

I fear I won't be joining you in the rafters, I'm far to scared of heights for that. I've even been known to sit on the floor instead of a high stool.

I do agree with writing around subjects that research has been done into, nothing makes me cringe more than a poorly developed background. My issue was more going for a sweet and cuddly 50k word romance and it turning into a throat grabbing steamy bit of nonsense.
It started out well just reverted back halfway through

I am not giving up on SRP even if I just dabble in private messages until one brave soul wants to take it public.

Thank you! I was a member of a couple of forums relating to writing previously but they have all gone a bit down hill with all the newer tech out there people don't seem to use their words as much nowadays.

I do agree to an extent on this, unfortunately true D/s relationships need a lot of trust and the freedom on the subs part to give up control. That is what I lack in the ability to trust someone else to have control over me.
Also not fantasy but it does affect my ability to write a convincing sub.

Ish, hopefully everyone learns something during their time in Lit. I know I have. You did make me laugh and smile. Many times you made me facepalm and shake my head as well but always with a smile on my face.

*laughs softly* That's not a problem, Honey. Everyone has their limits. Besides, I haven't been around enough, the rafters have dust on them that makes me sneeze. I do need to do some dusting up there.
I think then it requires a lot of talking with your writing partner and if they persist in still not hearing you? It's time to bail. You both are in it for enjoyment and if they refuse to make it something you look forward to, then poof. I am happy to hear you're not giving up on SRPs, that would be horrible for anyone.

I use to think the same thing then wondered if it was just me seeing things that way. I am pretty introverted and felt intimidated until I finally realized that I am on the other side of a computer screen and people out there don't know the person that's actually at the keyboard. Then I met some wonderful folks on Lit and found them to be great friends I can count on.

I think most people who are not in the D/s lifestyle have that false belief, CG. Each depend on the other to make such a relationship work. Personally, I can be labeled as a switch, but I prefer to be a sub. In real life, I have a lot of responsibilities and I take on a lot. Sometimes, I just need to let someone else be in charge so I can unwind. Of course, in a rare instance, my Dom has a tendency to try and be a "bully" and I have to step in and step up. Being a red head and being an "older" woman, I don't tolerate a lot of crap anymore. I just don't have the patience for it. He knows that. He also knows I love him and he loves me so we sort it out.
