So I have a manual series stuck in pending for over a month now (submitted 2/14, today is 3/16). I've seen on the forums that series can indeed take an extremely long time, but when do you think I should either try messaging Laurel about it or cancel the series and resubmit a new one? I wasn't very concerned before, but now that the series has multiple chapters, I want to make it easy for readers to find them all. Unfortunately, for some reason, the auto-series grouping didn't kick in even though I did make the suffixes Ch. 01, Ch. 02, etc.

Series page. Chapters are published fine, just not sorted into a series.
That's odd, the auto-chaptering algorithm didn't work as it should.

Try reporting the first chapter, and explain the problem. A Report will get the story right in front of Laurel, and probably be quicker than sending a PM, and much quicker than setting up a Manual Series.

You could also try deleting your Series completely, which might allow the auto-chaptering to work as it should. From my experience, the chaptering thingie runs regularly (every 24 hours), but your Series might be getting in the way.

Thinking about it a bit more, I'd try that first, since it's the simplest thing to do, and might fix the problem. If it's going to work, 48 hours should do it.

The series page can take quite some time. If I start a new series, I often publish the series page early on (it will never appear until Ch. 01 does anyway) to allow it enough time. I wouldn’t like to guess, but maybe four weeks is not uncommon for a manual series.

Also make sure you have pressed publish as not just save.

I have a similar issue. 4 sitting in pending. One since 2/26, 3/4, and the others newer. Usually, it's no more than 4 days after I upload. Help?

Maybe someone can explain this to me...

I have two series (not stories written serially, ie, chapters) here.

The first series was started before the Series Manager launched, so I had to denote the association of the tales entirely through their titles. I have since added it to my Series Manager so that a cover image could be included. From what I can see, there was no other reason to do so. To readers, the series is obvious and the order that the installments can be read is irrelevant since they aren't "serial".

In the second case, after the Series Manager had launched, I wrote the first installment and published it successfully. I didn't even bother with the Series Manager until I was submitting the second installment. I added the second installment to the series when submitting it, and have done the same for ever installment after that. As long as the titling is correct, I don't see where the problem is in letting the system do its thing and adjusting manually only if necessary for some personal reason.

What am I missing?

Nothing. If you title chapters correctly, the auto-sequencing thing is all that is required. In your case, adding a cover is the bonus of a Manual Series, plus you could give the whole thing a short blurb.

I find the Series function useful in that you can cluster related stories together, that might not be chaptered.

Update: It was published yesterday, 3/21. So exactly 5 weeks after I submitted it!

It looks like what happened here is that putting these stories in a manual series interfered with the automatic series creation based on title numbering?

That's my guess.

I suspect many (new) writers may not be aware of the auto-sequencing function, and go off down a delay alley, thinking they need to set up a Series first.

Until you need to do a manual Series, you're better off relying on the auto-sequencing algorithm, since it runs every night, from what I can see.

Ah this makes sense, I did create the series before the stories were published and added them to the pending series during story submission

I've had 4 in pending since Feb 26th. Someone suggested deleting and re-uploading, which I did. They are still sitting there. I just uploaded four more chapters.

Is there a problem?

I had the same issue last December and then it was fixed.

Are there any thoughts on this?

Did you look at Literotica's pinned post here?

https://forum.literotica.com/threads/story-pending-for-more-than-72-hours-please-read.1638228/

Did you politely send Laurel (the site editor) a private message using the envelope above this and ask if you can do anything to help get your stories processed? She rarely answers, but often solves the problem. She's the Laurel who has the Literotica logo as her profile pic.

I have a series chapter that has been stuck in pending since February 5th. I made the mistake of resubmitting it after doing some edits, and that reset the waiting time. Resent March 13th, now it has been 11 days.

Did you read the forum message I linked to right above your own message?

Yeah and I messaged Laurel days ago. No reply. Story still stuck pending. I don't want to be a nuisance to her, so not going to message again. I know what its like to be hounded with emails.

I don't know Laurel's work flow. Edits tend to be much slower than initial submissions. If your edit to the pending story was treated as an edit, not a submission ....
