Portal to Adventure

James/Taran

"Ok Valencia, you're right. It's just that I feel so inadequate here. I mean, all I can do is play this lyre and fight a little, I can't even cast any spells or use weapons because I never learn't how to!"

I sighed to myself, "Well, once more unto the breach dear friends...."

"I guess we'd better check on the others and try and find this Ghaelryss Aerasumé character."

Kalann

After he had sat there at the bar for awhile waiting for Valenci...the rest of the group he decided to go and check on them. He rose from his seat and began to walk twards the stairs leading to the third floor. As he headed up them the others began to come down the stairs twards him. Kalann rested his eyes upon Valencia then jerked them away reflexivly. What is wrong with me Kalann thought to himself.

"So has anyone made any solid decisions as a course of action." Kalann began. "If not I have a few ideas that may help. Two to be exact. You could go and request an audience with the lady Silverymoon, or you could go to the hall of sages for there is the largest library of knowledge in all of the realms."

He looked at them as he talked and when he had finished he awaited for them to reply. Knowing full well that regardless of their decision he would be unable to do more than to point them in the right direction. For he himself had an appointment to keep before he could leave the glistening city of Silverymoon. A test of his skill as he had never had it tested before. He would kill his former friend and master the lord of the assassain's guild, Calthon Mashin.

Michelle/Valencia

I stepped forward and smiled at Kanann. "We had already thought of the lady but your other suggestion is good. Perhaps our learned mage and sorcerer will be inclined to study the tomes and see what they can find."

"Right now we are going to see about our other friends and get something to eat and drink. Will you sup with us?"

I tried to sound like I belonged here though I did not know how well I succeeded. I had to stop talking like a modern college girl or else we were going to rouse some suspicions.

Kalann

"Shall be both my honor and my privelage mi'lady." Kalann said.

He wondered to himself did I really just say that. The words sounded foreign to him like they had come from someone altogether not him. He had meant to say something along the lines of "whatever", but the other had escaped it's prizon within his brain and fled his mouth like a refugee before a goblin horde. He admitted to himself I am awful hungry. He led the group back down the stairs and to one of the only empty tables in the room. The other two earlier arrivals had by now joined them at the table. The barmaids came and food and drink were ordered on the house of course. When the food arrived Kalann didn't tear into it ravenously as he would have otherwise. For some odd reason what this particular young woman thought of him was of some importance to Kalann.
Across the Common room Parpo watched his friend as he ate. A smile crossed the gruff old dwarfs face.

" Ye have been caught me friend." he began speaking aloud to himself. "As sure as if ye were bound and gagged across a great roan stallion."

Then the dwarf burst into a thunderous laughter and drew the attention of several sitting at the bar. As well as a man cloaked in shadows who sat at a table in a far corner of the inn waiting and watching calculating his next move.

Michelle/Valencia

I almost laughed. "Milady," I thought shaking my head. Never would I have thought that word would be applied to me. Smiling, I followed him in to sit down to eat. I was startled at the inn keeper's laughter and looked over at him with a puzzled look. He was certiantly a strange man.

Looking at down at the plate before me I realized one thing. People here didnt eat with forks. They used their knives where they needed to but it was mainly fingers that did the work. I didnt think I was a prude but I was realizing how many of the modern things in life I had come to take for granted.

Shrugging my shoulders, I picked up my meat and begin eating it. The flavor was excellent and I shut my eyes as I savored the taste of the meat. Opening them, I looked around to see my companions enjoying the meal also. We hadnt had anything since the pizza at the game.

The ale was also good and I was surprised to realize that the alcohol did not affect me like usual. It must be the added body mass that being Valencia gave me.

Looking over at Kalann, I realized that he was very quiet so I decided to offer conversation. "I heard what they said about your brother. I am sorry for his death. What happened?"

Kalann

Kalann was torn from his thought by Valencia's voice. He heard her make mention of his brother. Kalann believed that he could trust the group so he began to speak.

" William was my little brother." Kalann began. "Six years younger than myself. He lived here is Silverymoon and made an honest living as a Blacksmith apprintise. Then came the time when I departed Silverymoon come six monthes ago. The reasons why and surrounding the departure are unimportant at the time. I left business unfinished here and they took it up with my brother. His life to be exact. That is why I have come home. To settle the score."

Michelle/Valencia

I swallowed the ale I had just taken a drink of and my face went dark. "Thats horrible!," I said, my voice echoing my anger at the thought that someone would do that. "I am so sorry, Kalann," I said as I unconciously reached out a hand and placed it on his arm,"That must have been so very hard for you. So you have come here for revenge?"

I shook my head. Part of me...the part that was Michelle...balked at the thought of killing for revenge but the part that was Valencia not only understood and approved but cheered the ranger on. I was having a hard time sorting out my feelings on anything like this. It was as if I had one foot in the modern world and one in this medieval one and this time there was no time limit to tell us it was time to pack up our game gear and go back to the dorm.

I was so lost in thought that I did not realize I still had my hand on his arm until my gaze fell down to the table. With a blush, I pulled my hand away and resumed eating my meal.

Lailani/Bendi Somatra

Bendi leaned over to Alia. "Alia, you have got to do something. I have this great feeling of dread. We have no business here. Look around you. These people they know somethings not quite right. We could pull this off for a little while, but will we complete that which needs to be completed in time enough." Bendi's tanned olive skin contrasted nicely with her spring green eyes, and amber hair. Her high arched brows and tattoo's across her forhead only accentuated her sensual features.

Suddenly she felt a hand on her exposed thigh pawing her roughly. "Comere wench!" the drunken voice growled

"By the Saints!..." Before she could think she grabbed the meaty wrist, twisted the arm attached behind the back of whomever it belonged to. Slamming him into a nearby wall, she watched his blood splatter. Her anger at being touched so was near limitless. Turning him around she planted her foot in the center of his chest kicking him savagely back.

"HOW DARE YOU!!" she raged. "You do not touch me, you never touch me. You are beneath me in every way, heathen scum."

Kalaan suddenly appeared before her grabbing her shoulders. She fought him for a moment glaring up into his eyes. "Lady, though im not sure i should call you that the way you fight, I beg you not to wreak havoc here. I gather that we are all in a little bit of an uncomfortable situation that would only gain deplorable speed by causing a scene."

After a brief moment of thought the fight went out of her and she looked to the man who lay moaning in the tavern floor.
"He's no commoner. He won't take lightly of this." Kalaan stated.
"I care not what he takes or does not take."

Neale/Alia

"As it turns out, seeing the Lady Alustriel won't be all that much of a problem for us. This isn't Al- dammiT! my first time in Silverymoon. It, uh, just took a little while for the knowledge to sink in. Get my bearings after that, uh, teleport. I... I could use some time to gather my thoughts, though."

I stop to look imploringly at each of them. "Just give me a little time. A few hours, while you sleep tonight. Don't make me face her right now. Dont' ask me questions about Silverymoon. There's something very, very important I have to do first. Being a priest isnt' shit! priestess isnt' just playing medic. My mind is telling me one thing, and my heart is telling me another, and don't forget the hormonal mix. Until I find some center, I'm not going to be of any use to any one."

Sutashi

The meeting had unnerved me, the vision of John along with his message to us, had sent my spirits spiraling. The reality of what we were here to do had finally hit me like a ton of bricks. Of course I kept quiet, it was in my nature to hide my discomfort...and the reason I had chosen a "Wu Jen" as my main character at our games. Sutashi was an expert at hiding her emotions...

I had joined the group downstairs, but could not join them in their feast. It was taboo for Sutashi to ingest meat or animal products, and doing so would result in illness, loss of abilities, and in rare instances, even death. At least that is how it was in the game when we played for fun...and I didn't want to take any chances here.

I sat and sipped water, watching and listening to the other's converse. I needed to get a handle on what spells I was strong enough to use, and the large library sounded like a wonderful place to start. Now all I needed were scrolls, some ink, and a quill...

I started to walk towards Kalann, but realized that he had his hands quite full with Bendi, and made my way over to the Innkeeper. He gave me directions to the nearest general goods shop, and I thanked him before walking back to the table.

"I am going to the library, would anyone care to join me?" I asked softly.

James/Taran

"This may seem like a silly question to ask but does anyone have any money?" I fished in my pouch and came up empty handed. "Because after the amount we've just eaten it seems we'll be broke in a couple of days."

Sutashi then came back and announced that she was going to the library. "I'll join you," I said. "Maybe I can find a place to play for gold."

Dur cocked his head and took a long look at his friends. "Maybe we should get the first quests started, if you don't mind?" he asked.

Kalann

Kalann saw the redness creep up her face as she layed her hand on his arm. He had never seen a warrior blush before it caught him off guard then he though to himself warrior or not still still she be a woman. After restraining the Fiery woman who had smashed the man's face he returned to his seat next to Valencia. Without thinking Kalann took up the woman's hand and held it in his own. What AM I DOING he thought to himself, but neither of the two moved to remove their hand.

" I thank you for your consearn for my brother's death." Kalann said, "but there is still much of the story that you don't know Valencia. I will not leave Silverymoon intil my brother's death is avenged so I will not be able to accompany you to meet with the lady of Silverymoon. For I myself have an appointment to keep. One which I truely dread, but shall keep none the less. So if I have not returned by the morn adress Parpo to lead you safely from the city for there will be many dangers for those who accompanied me."

The safety of Valencia and the other's seemed to weigh more heavily upon his shoulders than the possibility of his own death. This confused him as well.

"I want you to promise me you will leave the city if I have not returned by the morn."

Lothius/Raymond

Raymond had eaten like he had never done before, he did not care he had to eat with his hands, the meat tasted great! While eating he had been watching the others. Listening to Kalann and the story about his brother, watching Valencia's reaction towards the ranger, Bendi's reaction on the drunken man, he had to remind himself to that reaction....

Raymond liked it here, he did not understand why some of them were making such a big fuss about what the Prof did. He always knew there was something special about the Prof, but trusted him like no-one else.

When Sutashi says she's going to the library he stands up, "well, a wizard's got to do, what a wizard's got to do!" and besides that, he liked being with Ivy/Sutashi.
So he grabs his staff, his bag with the items he had sorted out up in his room and heads towards the door, after saying farewell to some of the maids he had flirted with and promised them to come back.

Michelle/Valencia

I looked at Kalann startled by his revelation but I had to put that conversation on hold. Rising, I went over to my companions and spoke in a low voice.

"Alia, go upstairs and gather yourself. You have all the time you need. No one is going to make a move until you are ready. I shall ask the inn keeper to send something up to you."

To Sutashi, Taran and Lothius I said,"Go, but please remember to be careful! Though our bodies may remember this land we are still from the modern world and we could slip up at any moment. If you encounter any problems, make your way back here and we will do something about it together."

Putting a hand on Justinian's shoulder. Smiling, I said,"It's me Michelle. It's good to see you up and kicking." To Dur I said,"You too. But Justinian has asked the sixty four thousand dollar question. What do we do now? We are going to talk to a lady who is of great import in Silverymoon and see if she can help us. Some of us are also going to do some research at the vast library here. After we have all the information we should know how to proceed."

"Meanwhile, be careful. There is a possibility that things could turn nasty. Either by a mistake we make or the fact that we may have some of the prof's enemies after us at some point."

Moving back to where Kalann sat, I slid back into my seat. My expression was set and determined. "We are not leaving this city until we know where we are headed and what we can do to further this quest of ours. No matter what we have to finish it or we cant go home." I looked at this ranger who had helped us without question and wished I could tell him exactly where home was but I didnt dare. We didnt know who was listening in and I would not expose the team for personal feelings.

"Besides," I added,"You will return though I feel you should think twice before attempting this. Is it really worth your life to go after this person?"

Kalann

Kalann was taken aback by the question as the woman asked it not because it was a bad queustion because it had been the same question he had asked himself twelve dozen tumes as he had rode here from Luskan. He would give her the same answer that he had given himself so may times before.

"Valencia," Kalann began, "this quest is not one of my choosing and had it my way I would be gone from Silverymoon and never come back to this blasted place. But something pulls me twards the inevitable battle with Calthon. For by his hands was my brother slain in my sted. For I wished not to fight the younger assassain. Not due to fear, but the profound honor and debt of gratitude I own his father. The man you saved me from the streets, and trained me in the ways of the Ranger along side his only son Calthon. Calthon and I grew up as brothers but that never aided in disposing of the true hatred he showed to me. I know not why the younger man dispized me so, maybe due to Jealosy at the fact his father treated me as much like a son at he did Calthon. Then come five years ago I was reunited with my brother the last of my blood. Three years after that Annalus Mashin died, and his son Calthon assended to the Lord of the Assassain's guild. But he unlike his father before him had neither the honor nor the integrity needed to be of such a powerful possition so I took all I owned and left. This enraged the young man even further.

Knowing that I thought him less a man than his father. I lived in Luskan for awhile befoe Calthon sent the first of the assassains against me. Obviously they failed in their appointed task. Seeing that he could not have me killed so easily he turned his eyes away from me and to my younger brother who had refused to leave Silverymoon with me. He had a life here a family, a wife and two sons. All were slain as they slept by the hand of Calthon Mashin. Thus I have returned to Silverymoon to repay the lord of the assassain's guild blood for blood."

Clapping hands sounded behind Kalann and he whirlled to look at the sound. The man in the shadows rose to his feet and threw back the hood of his robe to reveal the face of Calthon Mashin.

"Bravo my friend," Calthon began, "You should have been born a bard and not a Ranger. Twas a great tale of high adventure and sorrow you spun for the lady. Though all was true save for the fact that you will repay me blood for blood. You never had my talent with the blade Kalann and you will die this day long before you ever will attain a greatness such as mine."

"It looks as though I may not have to go out in search of revenge after all Valencia for it has come to me. You speak well for the cowardly murderer of woman and children Calthon." Kalann nearly spat the words at him.

Then Kalann turned and looked at Parpo who knew what was to come next. In essence the challenge had been made and the guantlets had been thrown.

"If ye not borded in me inn to tha street with ye." Parpo began bellowing over the loudness of the Inn, "If ye are to yur rooms with ye one and all and noth to return to the common room till told other wise. Now GO!"

As the people disappeared from the Inn Kalann turned and looked at Valencia who held a look of consern in her eyes. Her consern for his well being seemed to rejuvinate the Ranger as he drew his scimitars from their sheathes. The assassain seeing this as the beginning of their battle did the same with his twin sabres. The two men circled each other like great hunting cats both searching for a weakness in the other's defences.

Neither would find for what they searched. The fires of hatred burned in both men's eyes as they looked upon their hated rival. Calthon struck out with the speed of a frog's flicking tounge an attack whic would have killed near any other foe, but Kalann easily at deftly parried the strike off to the side and countered with one of his own which Calthon blocked just as easily.

The two continued there battle which with the speed it took on appeared more a coriagrafed dance than a true battle. Any warrior amongst them could know the true beauty of the display which was being put on before them. A display that stretched first into one hour then threatened to break another. Each man attacking then defending. Some few strikes made their way through the defenses leaving a thin line of blood in their wake. Each man began to show signs of weariness after awhile which due to the ferocity of the battle was to be expected.

The two continued for long moments both appearing more desperate than they had earlier needing this battle to come to an end soon or else both dropping to the floor from exhaustion. Moments later finnaly a mistake was made which in a battle such as this usually marked for death. Calthon saw an opening in Kalann's defence and without waiting to see why of how it had came, for he was far too exhausted at the moment he had just sprung at it. He felt his sabre tear through flesh and then strike something solid beyond.

He had drove his blade straight through Kalann's side missing every vital area and had struck the solid wall of the Inn beyond. Calthon tried desperatly to pull his blade free but the had seen the folly of his strik all the much too late. He felt an intense pain in his stomach as both of Kalann's scimitars struck home in his unprotected stomache. Panic overcame the assassain at the sight of his own imminante death. He stumbled away from the killing blades and held his arms over his destroyed abdomen trying to keep his insides from spilling to the floor. Then the man fell to the floor dead before he hit and not knowing the true damage he had done.

Kalann watched as the young assassain fell to the floor. A sence of closure came over the Ranger as he knew at last his brother's restless spirit could rest and that Calthon Mashin would never again harm the innocent. He pulled with all of the remaining strength he had in his body and managed to free the sabre from the wall and remove it from his side. It clanged to the floor and bounced away. Kalann slowly slid down the wall of the Inn and hit the floor darkness closing in all around him. He fought it off for he had still much to do before he had the luxury of death. Soon he lay bleeding and unconscious in the Inn's floor but at least he was alive.

Jamie / Jothal

I sat stunned by the display.

I had never seen someone killed before me, yet... I had also seen countless deaths, many by my own hands or magics. For a few moments, I wondered if I could actually kill anyone myself.

I shook my head, snapping myself out of my reverie. That was foolish thinking, and was quite likely to get myself - or one of my friends - killed.

Now, Kalann was lying against the wall, the wound in his chest waking me further to the danger that this world presented.

"Alia!" I shouted, kicking the chair behind me back as I rose to my feet hurriedly.

Michelle/Valencia

I sat and looked at the display of bloodlust and finally I was snapped out of my trance by the sight of Kalann sliding to the floor covered in blood.

No time now for thoughts on whether or not I could handle this bloody aspect of this world. I stood, knocking over the chair and rushed to his side. My First Aide Class in college came to mind...do not move a victum unless there is something more life threatening in the area. So, instead of placing his head in my lap as any other female in this world might, I checked his pulse which was still beating even if it was faint. I had heard Justinian call for Alia so the only thing I could do now was kneel there and shake my head.

"Damn fool male," I said in a low voice,"And I thought the men in my world were mired in being macho." Secretly I wondered what the male hormone level was in this world.

Neale/Alia

The fight between the two locals had not really gotten through to me. The clashing of blades was but a dim echo of the chaos within my mind.

However, when blood was spilled, and a good man injured, reflexes I hadn't realized I'd possessed came to the forefront. My confusion evaporated as I rushed to our fallen friend's side.

Kneeling, I call upon Correllon to aid me in saving this young man's life. My god's power fills me, and flows through my hands into Kallan's prone, unconscious form. The ranger had been mortally wounded, but not beyond the power of my god to restore. His wounds miraculously healed themselves, and the color returned to his pallored face. Moments later, his eyes opened, and he looked up at me.

"Happy now?" I ask him. "You humans and your blood vendettas. Now, I suppose, his son, brother, whatever, will be coming after you! When will it all stop? You do realize that Alustriel takes a dim view of vendettas being fought out within the city? Innocents could have been badly hurt."

Leaving him to lie in his pooled blood, I move back to my table, sit down, and stare at the candle on the table.

Neale/Alia

What the hell just happened? Who am I?

My thoughts in a whirl, I barely noticed the figure that sat beside me at the table. Looking up, I recognized him! Well, part of me did, anyway. One of the Lady of Silverymoon's own sons had come to visit. In the back of my mind, I was wondering when she'd make her presence known. After all, half the city reports to her! I am SO not ready for this!

Michelle/Valencia

Slipping an arm around Kalann, I helped him to sit at the table and pulled his mug of ale to him and bid him to drink.

Turning to Alia, I said,"Thank you. Now go up to a room and rest and 'get yourself together' I will have the inn keeper send something to your room. Take your time. The quest will be here when you return but if you continue to use your powers without having your mind clear I am afraid of what will happen. We will need you on this quest...more so than you may be able to give. It will not do to have you torn within yourself."

Looking up to Dur, I said,"We will visit her in the morning. Right now we have issues to take care of that are more important than even that."

It was then that I noticed Alia starring at a man that had set beside her. A frown creased my brow as I said,"Who are you and what do you want with our healer?"

Michael/Kiai

Kiai runs over, carrying some bandages, and wet cloths

"You really took care of that foul scum, Kalann. Becareful next time... You shoudl charge mroe agrresively, and throw your enemy off balance..."

Kiai talks about fighting tactics tyrign to get Kalann's mind off his wound, while Kiai uses what he knows of first Aid to try and slow down the bleeding...

I call out to the room, "We sure could use a cleric over here. Kalann's loosing blood quickly, and his pupils are dialating..."

Kiai seeing the cleric preoccupied, decides to make a decision

"Alright", he says calmly "We've got to stop the bleeding, and bandage him up..."

Kiai, rips off his sleeve, and rapping it aroudn Kalann's waist, pulls it tight with a hard pull, causing Kalaan to flintch, but does a good job of not showing his discomfort
