OOC: Hotstuff, Alia already healed Kalann. He is sitting up and drinking ale right now.

Kalann

Though the death of Calthon Mashin had filled Kalann with a sence of closeure over his brother's death it had not effected him quite as he had suspected. Though the man was a vile putrid excuse for a man Kalann never took pleasure in ending a human life. He knew that had he not killed Calthon that Calthon would had no qualms killing him. However the way that Valencia had looked at him had stung more than the wound any blade could ever make.

"I am sorr..." Kalann began before the woman cut him off by asking the man near the healer who had saved his life who he was and what he wanted.

However Kalann knew exactly who the young man was. Though he had no idea why one such as he was residing with this inn instead of staying in his mother's estate within the city. It was the Lady of Silverymoon's Son. Kalann had met the man before on several occasions and knew him to be a man of honor. Kalann collected his scimitars from the ground near by wiped the blood from their blades and returned them to their sheathes. It wasn't the first time the perfect blades had tasted blood and Kalann knew their was little chance it would be the last. He returned to his seat and drunk deeply from the tankard of ale. He looked at Valencia who was still preoccupied with the young Son of lady Silverymoon. His heart ached that she thought him a fool, that he had filled his vendetta for blood on the floor of his dearest friend's Inn and she had been force to watch the wicked spectical.

"I truely am sorry Valencia," he spoke to the woman, "but this is a cruel world in which we live. You must kill or be killed and for a long time I have had no reason to wish to live." He looked at her again his eyes taking in her full beauty, "Now I do."

Michelle/Valencia

I was startled away from my questioning of the young man when Kalann spoke. His words shook me to my very soul. If he only knew. I looked over at Caillean, my violet eyes a mixture of confused feelings I was sure. What did I do? This ranger had just as much told me that he had deep feelings for me...no for Valencia.

I looked away for a moment. How did I even begin to tell him that I was not the warrior woman he saw before him that instead I was a 5'4" psych major who hated to study, skimmed by in classes with a B average and snuck out to parties and college functions whenever the opportunity presented itself.

It must look pretty weird for an imposing warrior like Valencia to declare that she hated bloodshed. In fact I didnt know what was going to happen when it came down to actually using my own blade. I had never shed blood or delt well with death-in fact I cried for days when my parents had to take my cat to the vet to put it to sleep. Taking a deep breath, I tried to come up with something that would explain my actions.

"Kalann," I said, trying to make my voice stay even and calm,"It's just that where I come from things are a little different than here. I doubt that you would understand it if I tried to explain it to you." I sighed. "And soon I will have to go back to my home. That is the whole purpose of going on this quest is to go home...and I am afraid once I get there that there is no way for me to contact you after that."

I didnt know what else to say. It wasnt that I didnt find him attractive or have no interest in him at all but we were trying to go home and I wasnt about to lead him on only to have to say goodbye and hurt him. Which was also not like me because in the modern world, if I had a boyfriend for more than two weeks Aly started teasing me about my becoming serious with the guy. I just couldnt seem to keep interest in any one guy for long.

Neale/Alia

Ghaelryss? Oh bloody Hell. Looks like I'm not going to get a break after all!

"It's okay, uh, Valencia. He's a friend." I notice the widening of her eyes. Bet she was wondering how the heck I knew anyone here. "Ghaelryss, please meet Valencia, one of my traveling companions. Valencia, this is Ghaelryss Aerasume, one of the Tall Ones, a group of Cha'Tel'Quessir in service to the Lady of Silverymoon, Alustriel. He and I go back several years, actually. We met on an adventure that I was involved in, and we became friends."

I give her a look, pleading silently that she understands what I wasn't saying. The adventure in question was before her time at the table, under a totally different GM, so she had no first-hand knowledge of what I was talking about. In fact, the only person around back then, besides me, was Alyson, if I remembered right.

Michelle smiled with her eyes at me, and I knew she understood.

"I have a feeling that you aren't here merely to renew an old friendship, or two?"

Ghaelryss Aerasume

The tall, for a half-elf, noble smiled ruefully at Alia's words. "No, milady. Though I am delighted to see both you and my little friend, Caillean, I am here on business. A great working of magic was felt outside the city this morning. The Lady scryed the area, and saw your rather large group appear, unconscious. She recognized the two of you, and sent a group to welcome you and render assistance, if needed. However, you all awakened shortly on your own, and made your own way into town. She felt it best to allow you to proceed as you wished. This evening, she asked me to invite you, Caillean, and whomever of your fellows as so wish, to come to the palace for a private dinner with her."

Michelle/Valencia

I placed a hand on Alia's shoulder and said,"Go. We need the information and it may be a way for you to put the turmoil inside of you to rest. Name whom you would take and the rest will continue to look for answers here."

Looking over at Caillean, I said,"Will you go as well?"

Kalann

"Kalann," she said, "It's just that where I come from things are a little different than here. I doubt that you would understand it if I tried to explain it to you." she sighed. "And soon I will have to go back to my home. That is the whole purpose of going on this quest is to go home...and I am afraid once I get there that there is no way for me to contact you after that."

The words struck home like a mace ringing throughout Kalann's mind. What am I even doing ? He asked himself, but another question stood out in his mind more evidently. Where could this place, this HOME, she spoke of be. So far away that she would never be able to contact him from it. He didn't understand the implications of the statement though it stared him straight in the face. Kalann was no fool this was evident to all that knew him. This quest would be a difficult one for him indeed, that is if still they required or even wanted his help. He was startled by the thought he had never remembered deciding to accompany them any further than Silverymoon, but obviously he had. He had discovered that he had decided to aid them in their quest regardless of where it led them even if he had to battle through the Dark Elven streets of Menzoberazan

Caillean

Caillean nods to Val. "Yes. I would very much like to have the opportunity to speak with Lady Alustriel again. Would you like to attend with us? It would probably be most beneficial if the rest of our group joined as well. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. The High Lady is a most gracious hostess." I glance up to Alia and Ghaelryss, smiling warmly as I recognise the dear friend. It had indeed been a long time past that both the characters of Alia and Caillean were involved with the eldest of the 12 of Alustriel's sons, the Tall Ones.

"I would be most honored to join your mother for dinner this evening. Will you be joining us?"

Sutashi

Taran, Lothius, and I had the good fortune of missing all of the commotion at the Inn. We had managed to leave before the deadly duel, making our way through the streets of Silverymoon, while talking softly amongst ourselves about the plight of our group. Lothius was almost too jovial, laughing and excited about what lay ahead. I on the other hand, stared stonily into the distance, wary of our future. Deep down inside I wished I could be more like Raymond and embrace this opportunity, but I was afraid...it was all so real.

We soon came upon the general goods shop and I stopped inside to purchase the supplies I would need to begin preparing my spells. I carried only one tome with me, an ancient book of spells that had been handed down to me from my last master on his deathbed. Funny how the stories I had concocted for my character had now become memories in Sutashi's soul...in my soul. I knew the tome held some powerful incantations, but I would need to do some research to make sure I understood all of their effects.

I banished the thoughts of my dying master from my mind and focused upon finding the library. Lothius and Taran were still talking excitedly when I returned to them, and I found myself gazing at them a bit too harshly. It was almost as if I could not stop myself...and I regretted it the instant they saw my dark eyes watching them. Who was I to ruin their fun anyway? I turned and walked away, biting my lip, confused and unsure of myself, and headed in the direction of the great hall.

Michelle/Valencia

I shook my head at Caillean. "Three of our number are not with us. I shall stay here and wait. Set up a base of operations if you will in case anything happens." I still had the uneasy feeling that something was lurking around, ready to pounce on us. I didnt know if if was my womanly instinct or Valencia's warrior instincts but I wasnt taking a chance.

"Besides," I smiled at here,"I doubt a simple warrior could add much to the conversation."

On the outside I was smiling, inside I was trying to figure how I, easily the flakest one in the group when it came to taking responsibility, could be feeling so responsible for them all. How I longed to get back home to my unopened textbooks, throw on a party outfit and head towards the nearest action. But I also knew that that kind of thinking in this kind of world could mean your death so back to letting Valencia's instincts towards her companions take over.

Taran

Lothius, Sutashi and myself walked through the cobbled street. When I stepped outside, my doubts had vanished momentarily as I felt absorbed in this mystical world. I could hear the mix of many toungues reaching my ear, and strangely I could understand part of it as well. This must be some of the skills that we had magically acquired after being transported here.

Sutashi was quiet throughout. It seemed that this sudden transposition had hit her really hard, and perhaps she was having some difficulty adapting. Lothius on the other hand was jolly and talkative, absorbing the atmosphere of this world. I couldn't but be taken with his enthusiam.

When we reached the goods shoppe Sutashi went to look for her things, and Lothuis and myself browsed like men often do when abandoned by women. There were some real crazy things that I couldn't even recognize, and while Lothius and I were discussing the merits of excessive vowels Sutashi had returned. She gave us a little glare before walking haughtily out of the shop, and we chased after her.

I strode up beside her. "Sutashi," I whispered so to not draw attention to our conversation, "I know it's been a big change. I couldn't handle it myself at first. But we're here so we have to stay on our toes and act like we're natives. Which we are in a way. We'll always be here to support you don't worry."

Neale/Alia

Valencia had made a good point. Wouldn't do to have people wandering around, unable to find each other. That's the kind of thinking I was supposed to be good at. Too much else running through my brain right now. Too many people up there. I was very grateful to her for stepping up into the party leader role. Correllon knows, I was in no shape for it.

"So, Cai, looks like it's just you and me going to dinner. Shall we go now, good sir?" I flashed a broad smile at our half-elven friend, and it faltered. Holy shit, I'm flirting with this guy? Caillean had noticed, and reached up, clasping my delicate hand in her own, small one, giving me a squeeze of reassurance. "My apologies, sir. Still recovering from the effects of our journey."

Jamie / Jothal

"I would like to take up that invitation to a dinner" I said, "I don't really know what else I can do at the moment, Lothius and the others have the books covered - and welcome to them - and there isn't much around here for me to do it seems yet..."

Or to ignite, blast, blow up... my mind added almost unbidden. I smiled slightly. Hey, I was a sorcerer. Zapping things was what I did best. Or, what Jothal did best, at any rate.

Lothius/Raymond

Lothius follows Sutashi and Taran, the two of them had a conversation so Lothius decided not to interfere it and gazed around, admiring the architecture of the cities.

They walk past a dark alley, Lothius gets a glimp of 3 people standing there, one was definately a woman (he had an eye for woman) so he takes some steps back and walks looks into the alley. He sees two dirty typical thugs and a woman, the woman slaps one of the men after, "you dirty whore! I'll get you," after which he grabs the woman, she lets out a shriek. Lothius doesn't hesitate for a moment and walks into the alley, walking straight, he stands still and points his staff towards the men, "Carrion, crawl back under the stone you came from or I'll bring down the elementals upon your empty heads. Begone!" He whirls his arms around, acting like he has to control his staff. The two thugs look at eachother and after that decide to run, yelling something like "bloody spellcasters."

Raymond takes a deep breath, he just realises the two also could not have believed his performance, he had to remind himself the world they were in now was real, he could get hurt in here, it's in no way like sitting at a table with dices and sheets.

Lothius quickly disposes the thoughts when he remembers the lady in distress, but when he looks in her direction he just sees her running into a sidealley, further down this alley.

"Wait! I..." he looks over his shoulders if he sees Sutashi and Taran but they're not there, "wait! Miss?" Lothius begins to run down the alley, when he walks around the corner he bumps into a man, they both fall on the floor. The man is dressed black with dark green, a hood covers most of his face. "Who are you?" he snarls. "I.....uuh...I. was going...to..." he points his finger in the direction the woman went, "going...to..uh.." "The meeting? Well go on than, they allready started." "Yes, uuuhm, thanks for your help my friend," he gives the man his best smile, but the man allready runs around the corner, mumbling about "spies in their fancy clothes".

Lothius walks down the alley, big rats run past him, some chased by even more gruesome cats and the smell is disgusting. At the end of the alley there's a big wooden door with a triangle painted on it, some kind of sign it seems.

He gets his back and searches for a moment, suddenly he finds the silver ring with a blue diamond on it. It was his favorite item and it had taken him quite some sessions to put it together, the Prof always was quite strict with items, and until now from the few items he got, this, along with his staff, was his favorite. He slowly puts the ring around his finger, Lothius had done it a million times, for Raymond on the other had, it was his first time.

Immediately his blue clothes get the colours and shape of the clothes of the man he had just ran into. He decides to not change his appearance, nobody knows him anyway.

He takes a deep breath and knocks on the door, a big bald man in the same black/green clothes opens the wooden door and says, "you're late, who are you?" "Raymus Loth, my friend, spy in the house of Silvermoon, that's probably the reason you don't know me." "Ah, I see Raymus, well, be queit, Yondu has allready started. Heard the news yet?" "No, I'm afraid I haven't." "Calthon Mashin has been killed in The Blade of Ehlonna." "Aw, what a terrible loss, he will be greatly missed, not a doubt." The big man looks somewhat strange, but let's him pass, 'who in God's name is Calthon Mashin and why was he killed in The blade of Ehlonna,' it was at times like this he was proud of his acting skills, but than it got through to him, 'The blade of Ehlonna', that's where he and his friends stayed!

But before he could think any further Lothius enters a great hall, filled with about 30 men dressed in black and green, if this was the assasinsguild they had come short in members, and on a platform in the middle of it all a man was standing, completely dressed in leather and daggers tied onto all his limbs, his face was pale and he got long, ravenblack hair, tied into a tail with green silk. Lothius also notices the lady he had saved earlier on, she was serving beverages to the members. The man on the platform begins to talk.

"The death of Calthon Mashin is a tragedy, a terrible loss for the assasins's guild."
'Holy motherf...the assasins's guild?!?'
"But his death will not go without revenge, he allready knew there was a risk at getting face to face with his enemy, so he took precautions."
Lothius got closer to the woman he had saved and taps her on the shoulder.
"First he gave me, Yondu Dal'rui," the man holds apaper into the air, "the leadership of the guild."
Lothius winks the woman to follow him.
"And secondly, he has left us this letter, in which he states how to avenge his death."

Lothius orders the woman the woman to be quiet, "remember me? Now you help me, do you know who killed this Calthon?" "S..s..some ranger, but why, aren't you?" "Yes, yes I am, now get back to work." It was as he had feared, Kalann killed this guildmaster.

"I will now read the letter; 'Guildmembers, if you hear this I've died at the hands of the Ranger Kalann, the madman Kalann. My death can not go without revenge, we will hunt this man, and all his friends with him, down. One elite group, chosen by Yondu will sneak into The Blade of Ehlonna and kill all inside by suprise. Another group will seek out Kalann and his allies in public in front of the inn, to form a distraction. Kill them all! Do so, and my death will not be worthless. Signed, Calthon Mashin.'"

Lothius was pleasantly suprised, he allready had had some thoughts about this 'secret guild' but the way this Yondu, or all the men in the room behaved was a little amateurish. Otherwise the Lady of the city would have never let them exist. Nonetheless they could be a real danger now they were on the loose.

Yondu calls eight men to him and leaves with them, probably he decided to lead them in their hide and seek game. Another group of about twenty men, heads towards another door, Lothius runs after them and gets between them, if he was right these men would go to 'The blade of Ehlonna'. Lothius begins to figure out how to warn his friends before these men arrive, Raymond suddenly wants to go home, he didn't like it here as much as he had done before.....

Alyson/Caillean

I almost giggled. Almost. The look on Alia's face was just about too much. Giggle I didn't, but I could do nothing about the wide grin lifting the corners of my lips. Out of all of us, this had to be the biggest shock for Neale. I mean, sure, we all got spiffy new personas, but at least the rest of us remained the same sex. I slide my hand into Alia's and squeezed reassuringly, smiling up at hi.. Erh, I mean her.

Valencia was on the right track. It was a bad idea to let the group scatter too far now, our strength would lie in numbers. Using the Inn as common ground made good sense. Funny how Val was taking charge, and so responsible too! I am thoroughly impressed. I smile up to Valencia and nod, “We will return shortly. Hopefully with good news.”

I turn my head and strain my neck back to glance up to Jothal. Ouch! Dammit! I grimace as the vertebrae in my neck pop. That almost hurts. What ever possessed me to choose the halfling race?! I must have been completely out of my mind.

“Feel free to join us, Jothal. The more, the merrier.”

Michelle/Valencia

OOC: I am going to assume you three are gone to the dinner.

IC: I jumped up from the seat that I had taken after the others had left and looked hard at Justinian. "Assasins? In the Lady's city?" If I remembered my history of the game right that was one foolish move. Still, if they were coming for us, than we had better be prepared.

"Caillean, Alia and Jamie are gone to a dinner with the Lady. Lothius, Taran and Sutashi have gone to the library. The rest are here. We had better come up with a plan to meet the assasins."

Looking around, I gestured for those left in the inn to come to the table for a conference. "Okay, the way to meet an assasin is to use his own tricks against them. We need to use stealth and shadows."

My gaze shifted to Kanann. "Tell your friend, the tavern owner to get these people out of here and now. I know that will tip our hand but I am not willing to let innocent people die just to cover our actions."

"Of the six of us left, I need three upstairs and three down. They will come at us both ways. If we station the three upstairs at a position to see the assasins come in but not to be seen. Liailani, if you would take charge of those upstairs and take whichever two you wish of those of us that remain." I nodded her way before turning to the others. I knew she was a shaman as well as a fighter and we could use both of those to our advantage.

"Of the three dowstairs, I need one behind the bar and the other one hidden in the shadows. I will greet them in the tavern and, hopefully, they will have the same mindset about women that I have met at 'home' and it will get them overconfident. This should cause them to be careless and then the two in the room can attack and use that carelessness to our advantage."

I looked at Kalann and said,"I have not included you in our plans because I cannot speak for you. Will you stand with us this day?"

[Edited by Isolde on 03-07-2001 at 09:35 PM]

I stopped in my tracks, glancing back down the way we had came, following the son of Lady Alustriel to the royal palace.

"There's going to be some trouble back at the inn at any moment" I said.

"What? How do you know?"

I tapped one of my shoulders - the shoulder where Dak usually perched.

"I left Dak behind, to keep my friends advised of any events at the palace, any information we procured regarding Beren and this mages guild of his" I said. "He's perched up in the rafters, invisible."

"Its a good ten minutes back there, even at a run" Caillean said, then glanced down. "Twenty minutes" she corrected.

"Not necessarily" I smiled. "I could teleport us there."

Ghaelryss Aerasume

"Yes, if you would trust to the wild magic, you could transport yourselves there. If you feel you must, I will not stop you. Ladies, if you will excuse me, I must summon the guards to that site. We will meet you there as quickly as we can. Then, we go to dinner, yes?" His eyes twinkled merrily at them, and he bowed, turned, and sped away.

Neale/Alia

I wait until Ghaelryss is out of earshot, then turn to my friends. "Thankfully, both of us are pretty light-weight now, well under your 50lb per level weight limit. Hope you remember that bar VERY well. I'd really hate to come in badly." I grinned at Jamie, uh Jothal, to let him know I trusted him. Which I did. Mostly... Memories of badly-rolled teleports with past characters did their best to surface, but I banished them with a gulp.

"We'd best get moving. There's very likely going to be someone who needs my services before too long."

Jamie / Jothal

"Well, teleport isn't as dangerous as it was in the old rules" I smiled, "anyway, I was figuring on using my new scrying ability through Dak... give me a bit more time to study the location, and then have us pop into the inn when things start looking ugly. Get the jump on whoever or whatever is intending to attack our friends there."

I closed my eyes, concentrating on this ability as I knew I must. Then, after a few moments, my mind called to it the interior of the inn, viewed from Dak's vantage point.

Dak, tell our friends there I, Caillean and Alia are standing ready to help I sent to my familiar. One of the reasons I had picked a Raven familiar was because of its ability to speak a language of my choice, the Common tongue being the obvious one. Dak passed on the message to our friends below him.

Michelle/Valencia

I looked up into the rafters as the raven relayed the message. I had not realized that Jothal had left his familiar with us.

I grinned as I looked at those at the table. "Looks like we have back up too. Okay now who is going upstairs and who stays here with me?"

Alyson/Caillean

Teleport? I blinked up at Jothal and then Alia. She seemed rather okay with the idea. I swallowed in nervous anticipation. Jothal did have a point; hopefully this realm had reconciled with the new rules of the game.

Game. Hah! This was more real that I liked that was for sure. The strangest thing was the fact this new persona, this new body of mine, came with its own healthy load of memories. All the knowledge and contacts I had made in the past playing with this character were with me. Deeply embedded in my consciousness. Now just how completely weird was that. I’m still not sure what to think about it.

I cleared my throat nervously.

“Whenever you’re ready, Jothal.”

I smiled up at Jothal. I was shooting for a supportive one, but I know I missed it by a mile. Tremulous would be a more apt term to describe the weak attempt of a smile that creased my face, scared outta my wits perhaps even better.
