When someone dealt me an alder-body guitar, it produced thicker midrange tones, something that would positively alter my appreciation of that playing.

For my altar? No...I would never use alder for that since I love midrange from guitar pickups and seek to amplify by the wooden body; I would use red cedar or redwood to create a durable piece in several antra.

The sitar is a very different kind of animal relative to the guitar, BUT Maná renders a very artsy rendition of one in one of their songs on the Cuándo los ángeles lloran album.

Strings stretched over a soundbox and fretted by fingers holding them taut on bars? Looks like similarity, and not just linguistically, right from the start!
