POTUS has "Total" Power

In the news.

The moron mayor of New York is lamenting the loss of billions in tax revenue because of the shut down and wants the Feds to pick up the tab.

The irony is that he's done nothing but lambaste Trump and the moron and the governor are the ones that shut it all down.

Falls under the notion of, "I get to wreck the car but you have to pay for it."

That's generally the lefts life philosophy.

Never at any point in their lives are THEY responsible for how they live. It's always some one or things fault. Nebulous boogiemen like "the rich" and "XXXXX Privilege" for example are favorites.

DeBlasio is a moron and was widely despised even before his poor handling of the pandemic.

But democrats here aren't in a cult and aren't defending him like you RWCJers.

Yes, the closest parallel to the Deplorables' cult of personality is what is taking place in North Korea.

No wonder Trump "fell in love" with Kim Jong-un.

Yup. Those republicans sure do love Glorious Leader. He's practically Jesus 2.0, except for the morals, ethics and compassion stuff of course.

SO you're saying Trump has the total power to tell NYC schools to reopen. And businesses can reopen. And we don't have to quarantine or wear masks when we go to the store. And determine what sort of property taxes we pay.

God, all these two hundred years we've been wasting time with state legislatures.

Under the US Constitution he does. It's called the federal supremacy clause, Article VI.

POTUS> Governors.

If governors have EQUAL authority to POTUS then why the fuck do we even have a POTUS or a federal government for that matter??:D

FEDERAL > state.

Clearly doesn't know shit about N. Korea....which is run by "progressives" that promote the same political, economic and social ideals Coati espouses on a regular basis.

No, they just elected the stupid Communist.:rolleyes:

If those things were all done through your executive branch of government (governors/mayors orders) then yes under a number of legal avenues POTUS can step in and superceede those orders.

Federal authority> state authority> county/municipal authority.

That is the basic structure of the authority hierarchy in the US.

And determine what sort of property taxes we pay.

That's legislative pretty much everywhere AFAIK, not executive.

Does NYC/NY's mayors/governors set taxes or do your councils/legislatures do that?

God, all these two hundred years we've been wasting time with state legislatures.

You haven't the slightest clue how the US government is structured do you?

Trump is in charge of the executive branch, not the legislative.

Kewl, cuz that means Trump fell in love with a "progressive" Communist.

No need to double up on the same thing "progressive" covers it.

You should know that comrade!!

Diplomatic lip service is hardly falling in love.

That's not "total" power

Can you imagine Sleepy Joe with all that power, he'll probably forget he ever had it.:D

Oh, brute, you! You are robbing the poetic and romantic impeached President of his deepest forms of expression.

Yes, it started out with flirting, and passing notes in class. A Valentine with a heart-shaped confection, stating, "I think you're a smart cookie!:kiss::heart:" Trump primped himself daily, trying to match the coiffure skills of his new-found love.

And then it progressed with the one-on-one meetings, as Trump gazed into the eyes of another who loves the total control that only Communism seems willing to grant, those eyes that are like "...sunset over a lake of pearls..."

Well, that did it. The impeached President wanted to shout about his love from the rooftop, but settled for broadcasting it to the world in a press conference. "And then, we fell in love. No really, we fell in love..."

The delusions of an OMB/TDS addled mind. :(

Because by your own statement, he's beholden to the law.

Yes, which is why he's not a totalitarian autocrat.

That to me is NOT total power.

So what is total power to you then?

Because with regard to his branch of government, he effectively does.

Can't read your leftist propaganda rag and I don't believe the "epxerts" they hired to screech "orange man bad" autistically either.

A near county (total pop. 43k and bigger in sq miles than at least 1 US State) and its biggest city (39k) have declared a health emergency whose edicts are as lock-down as I've read, including an up to $1000 fine and/or 180 days in jail for not wearing nose and mouth covering the moment a citizen steps foot off their residential property.

The draconian nose and mouth covering dictate came specifically because the county has experienced its 10th infection over the past month+. 7 of those infections were folks visiting, the other 2's histories can't verify they actually were infected in the county. This 10th one is so worrying to the authoritarians because it's the very 1st case they say can be pinned to having been contracted in the county, although - LMAO - they have no actual, practical certainty how/whom/where it was actually passed. Btw: none of the previous or this 10th case has shown any signs of serious illness.

The city had their council meeting last night, so, after familiarizing myself with both the county's and city's emergency declarations, I decided to digitally observe. Their only defense of illegally suspending the 1st Amendment and tyrannically dictating the nosemouth coverings was unsurprising: as elected leaders, we have to do everything we possibly can to protect those who elected us.

But, when they got around to discussing the declarations' direct relationship to qualifying for CARE Act assistance, and the requirements for filing for that assistance and then receiving it, their raw hunger for making sure they got every penny they could was naturally more genuine than their bland template explanation of "protecting the people".

I read States are now adding previously unannounced deaths to their official COVID-19 death counts, many of them, admittedly, having not even COVID-19 symptoms at TOD. Why? Because costs to State, county and local governments related to COVID-19 are covered by the CARE Act.

Almost without statistical exception, ONLY already weak folks can possibly die from this virus. Even most of them survive, though. Normally healthy folks virtually have no statistical chance whatsoever of dying from this virus, and the greatest majority of them will never experience anything more unpleasant than the flu.

Logical action, if one was sincere about "protecting the people", would be to quarantine and direct ALL efforts to the care and health of the weakest among us - those who actually do need "protecting".

There is no practical need to tyrannically lock-down and draconianly declare illegal dictates to lord over normally healthy folks whose own bodies ALREADY, NATURALLY possess the unarguably strongest protection possible from this virus.

No, it is crystal clear: this has nothing directly to do with protecting anyone - that's simply the illegal authoritarian excuse to get literally every ¢ bureaucrats can possibly suck from the statist CARE Act teat.
