^^^This is really the big point about Trump's absurd statement.

Things are only going to get worse for Trump, because his denial of reality keeps burrowing him into a deeper hole. It appears that this virus is not simply going to miraculously disappear, but he still clings to that myth. Unlike his denial of global warming, his denial of the real effects of this virus is catching up with him in the short term.

By continuing to set expectations for a quick return to normalcy, he is making yet another undeliverable promise. And, how long will a twelve-hundred-buck check last for the many millions of Americans who did not have either the means or foresight to accumulate savings before this pandemic hit? He's either going to regret putting his name on those checks or he's going to have to start sending them out every month.

I am already seeing a new wave of poverty, one that will dig deeply into the portion of the working class who were fooled into thinking he was their savior during the 2016 election. And then, think about those folks who used stock market mutual funds as their retirement or savings account.

No, a huge piece of the consumer market has dropped out, and will remain absent unless an effective treatment or vaccine is developed. This is the reality.
