Privatize the U.S. Postal Service?

Major Edward GibberMouth

He Kant-handles the truth.

AceRebelWatBA gets very upset when anyone criticizes his simpleminded platitudes and half-assed free verse poetry.

Your reply looks exactly like something the idiot moOHmo would write. Good job. You must be proud. šŸ˜†

Well I wasn't talking about suburban rural....I meant out in the boonies. Like you have a lot number not an actual address.....you can't even be this remote east of the Mississippi it's not physically possible, WAY out in the fucking boonies. I've lived in several places around Alaska, Montana and Idaho where this is the case.

And when you live that far out, you have to get a PO box and go into town to the post office to pick up your mail.

Unless your stuff is coming UPS, then they deliver....those guys will get a F'ing package to god damn Mars overnight if you pay them enough. FedEx is a maybe. You might have to get that one at the post office too.
I live 25 miles from the closest town.

Personal anecdote makes the rule. If I say it for me, then it is true for all.

a priori

A 15-20 min drive is pretty close. You can still get most services at that range, even garbage pick up. You got garbage services? That's how you know you're still in the burbs.

Generally speaking that's not far enough out to be the kind of rural I'm talking about.

Are you east of the Mississippi river??

The Postal Service is a specified constitutional function of the federal government. It has operated with reasonable efficiency since the beginning of the Republic. Why fix what ain't broke?

I guess this is why.
It is broke and has been for years.

You can still use it, to deliver paper to any address in the U.S., and it's cheaper than FedEx. That means it ain't broke.
It isn't cheaper. It runs a deficit every year that's picked up by the taxpayer.

If they ain't broke, why are we always being asked to fix them and the whole Daniel Penny thing...

Buying physical transportation ain't exactly Social Democrat Public Transportation,

... cheap, easy, reliable, clean, safe and universally loved.

This is the USPS people. We love it!

We have no choice.

Do we?

This is OUR public radio. How could you not listen? We pay for it. I like it. What the fuck'ssup wid chew?

The only thing that privatization will add is shareholders.
The only thing that shareholders will do is take dividends.

Not profits (there won't be any), but money taken from the operational budget of the business. It's been tried in other countries such as Thatcher-era UK, nobody said since that the postal service improved.

The USPS will be much better off if the Trump-toady DeJoy is removed and the automatic sorting machines restored. But that won't happen because it will be much harder to block postal votes from Dem areas.

I think if you made a wholly private non government subsidy company to run mail, it would have a deep incentive not to fuck up as it would go under if they fucked around?

Are they not paying for themselves or are the not broke??

Can't be both ya communist fucktard.
The payoff is in intangibles.

Think of it as a collective virtue signal: see how good our government is for you? A lot of security for a minimum of liberty! It costs you nothing and gives us, the community, everything.

Checks for free.

To the beholder, a profit motive is nothing more than a greed motive and the effort is to abrogate selfishness in the community.

You don't ask, "How much does it cost?" That's rude. Impugns the intentions of others, which are wholly good. You bear it for the good of the community because that betters you. What part of that do you mouth breathers have trouble understanding? All you ever do is talk about investments. Investments lose money all the time, but you claim they leave you better off for them.

(Just not all investments all the time, the little lie of polite omission.)

This might be my buddy Evan Williams speaking but:

You're either the smartest liberal I've ever met or the worst republican troll lol.

I am not very smart. I do not sleep so I read. That is all. I was raised blue-collar, multicultural, biracial, working class in white 50s post-war Americana on the shattered remains of a multigenerational one-language (not English) family homestead/farm.

I am a Democrat. These are not my grandfather's Democrats any more than they are MLK's Democrats.

I vote Libertarian now to reclaim reason, that which was before the age of altruist and crusade.
