Protect Me (CLOSED)

It was a noticeable mark. She asked me what I wanted for lunch, but the first thing I asked for was an ice pack for Theresa so she can put it on her cheek. "Some people can be vicious for no reason," I replied as the flight attendant came back with an ice pack from the freezer and handed it to Theresa. "I would like some lasagna," I said with a slight nod and I felt myself being pushed into my seat as the aircraft began to advance and the whine of the engines picked up. We were getting into position for take off and outside the window I could still see those people as they were now outside the perimeter of the airport.

Looking back at Theresa I said, "Red really brings it out in you," I replied in a little bit of humor as I saw the light red of her cheek compared to the rest of her face, "It really does bring out your eyes."

Behind us I could hear Ballou and the other members of the security team strap themselves in. He could see that Theresa was doing something, but we were several rows in front of them so that helped mask us somewhat.

"Thank you sir. It's nothing really just a bump nothing serious. One to many cameras flying around." She insisted though she did take the ice pack. At his compliment her cheeks flared red, masking the mark. "Thank you sir..." she said shyly as she crossed on leg over the other. "Salad for me." She cooed as the waitress continued on to get everyone else's order.

"I'm sorry I couldn't get us a place to eat. I know how you hate eating on the run." She said softly before placing the ice pack down in her lap. " The grand opening should only take half an hour and the kids should take no more than two. After that we are free til tomorrow so dinner will be sit down if you like. either at the hotel or out that's up to you. " I booked us at the nicest club I could find. It's not black tie by any means but it its for nice night wear. " She murmured as she watched the food brought out on trays. Looking down at her salad she picked at it before finally eating. Her mind was always whirling with schedules. They were already late due to the crowd, she only hoped they could make that up during the flight.

"I think that dinner at your own table is better than one at a restaurant" I replied as the container of lasagna was placed before me and given a plastic spoon. The security measures on board were incredibly ridiculous. I wanted to bring my own silverware onboard but I could never remember to take them. There aas always someone else that needed help leaving me to forget about utensils.

To make matters worse we were traveling with other people in the back and they were curious as to why they saw so many men in suits and sunglasses. As we climbed higher I looked over at her and asked "Have you ever thought about having children one day, Theresa before before taking a bite of my scalding hot plate and wiping my lips. I remembered what she said to me earlier, about a woman gracing me, but I wondered about whY would happen to her. After all that she has done in her violent life, she deserved a man that would bring her happiness. I know Ballou wanted to be part of her life but it wasnt the same thing.

Nodding she continued to eat until his words brought her from her thoughts. Blinking she looked at him before shrugging. "Really? I don't know. I hope one day I can have a kid or two, maybe get married and start a life, but right now I enjoy my life being simple. Do my job, sleep, get back up and do it again. Three easy steps. After everything it's nice... to have easy you know?" She smiled before truly hiking about it. Did he know? Did he know what easy was. Her life was easy, it was easy to do her job but she could think say the same for him. For some reason protecting him came easier than breathing sometimes but he was always working, always worried always helping.

Her mind wondered to he childhood, helping the other foster children, changing diapers, protecting the younger kids from the teens. She had been a protector all her life, it's all she knew how to be. Thinking back she wondered if she had ever done anything else. Did she want to do anything else?
It was too early in her life to think of such things.... or was it? Taking a deep breath she looked back at him and blushed. He was staring at her.

"What about you? Do you want to have kids one day? I know you don't have to much time to mingle but... one day? " She asked. She was honestly curious. Would he leave this life one day as she would. Biting her lip she thought about it. Would they ever part ways? The idea made her sad thinking that one day she would no longer be in her life.

"I would like to have a son one day at least just one son. It would be nice to have someone to be able to carry on the family legacy. Do you know what I mean?" looking at her as she picked at her salad and occasionally lifted a leaf and nibbled I wondered how many times she has saved my life and wondered how many times our lives have either crossed over similar in the past. It was a shame, a damn shame that she had to pick a life such as this. Theresa was very talented in many ways that many people that I knew did not enjoy either being pushed around by a woman for seeing a woman having authority over the. I was raised to believe that a person earned the respect and earned their place in the Theresa was a person who earned her place. Even though I was born rich I still earned my place.

as our aircraft leveled off at 10,000 feet it was smooth sailing all the way to the next airport. I had finished my lunch and give it to the flight attendant before looking over at her and finishing the question.

"I would like to have at least a son like I said before however I would wonder what would happen if I would have a daughter as well. Would I be as protected of her as you are to me right now". it was a question I apologize anytimes I do not understand why.

Smiling she looked at him letting the attendant take her salad as well. "Yes, you would. More so even, because when you care for someone. When you truly care, you will do anything in the world to make sure they are taken care of." She said simply before chuckling. "Who knows, maybe one day... I won't just be protecting you." She really could see herself protecting him along with his family as they traveled or did what they needed to do. "I don't know sir. Maybe I'm not meant to have a family. I enjoy protecting you and if I have a family... who's Gunna protect you." She joked as she relaxed in the seat.

Glancing back at her team she sighed seeing Ballou laughing with his shades on. Rolling her eye she turned back around. "that man." she mumbled to herself.

"it would be a shame that you would watch me make a family and grill well you were allowed not too."I said with a bit of disappointment in my tone of voice. Looking at her as she relaxed in for seat then flicked her eyes back towards her comrades I could only shake my head slightly in disappointment, not because of her but because of her frame of mind. I lean slightly over my arm rest and looked at her and said in a very soft voice "you deserve a family as much as anyone else here, especially me. You have done more to ensure life than I have. You actually fight with people you actually keep them back you actually protect people including me all I do is sit and talk two factions and try to broker a piece. In my mind you have done more than I have ever done."

I lean back into my seat and let out a small sigh of relief. It had been building up inside me for a while. She always kick yourself always dismissed yourself and it always be a little herself spite of everything that she has done and she need to be assured that what she was doing was not only correct but beneficial to everyone around her.

Looking up at him as he leaned across the Isle she was silent her eyes as wide as saucers as her face began to grow pink. Biting her lip she looked down for a moment before finally composing herself. Looking back as him she reached across the Isle ignoring what they might think. She gently touched his arm before squeezing ti with a tenderness she didn't know she could must. "Thank you sir." It was all she could manage to say. No one had ever said such a thing to her let alone her boss. Granted she didn't look at him as a boss most of the time but it still meant the world to her.

Glancing out the Window she let his arm go. "We're circling to land." her voice was soft and her eyes caring as she looked back at. him. " Soon you'll be able to have some down time. " Only a little more. to go. " She cooed softly.

"Indeed" I smiled giving her a smile and looking out my side of the aircraft. The aircraft circled and came in for a landing. The landing gear touched down and we rolled to a stop in front of a large, open hanger. When the engines whined down the flight attendant opened the front hatch and down came the ladder for us to disembark and stepped away, giving us the courtesy smiles. It was to be expected as we came out and the security detail formed their perimeter and I came down to find that another limo was there to pick us up.

"There indeed one thing I do like about working for this," I said a little loudly over the engine whines all around this busy airport, "It is never having to worry about getting lost, because everything is done by someone else," turning to Theresa and giving her another smile. The limo we were in was similar to our own in that it was sound proof interior and we could have a little more privacy before we reached the embassy. Thirty minutes, I said to myself and then two more hours with the children and we would be on our own for the night.

Smiling she stared at him with a laugh of amusement. "Np you surely don't have to work about that." Letting him slide inside she rested against the seat happy to have quiet again. "I only hope the opening will be peaceful. Last time we went to one of these I came away with a black eye." She mumbled recalling the angry man who had wanted to harm her boss. She hadn't been his protection for more than a few weeks when it had happened. She had spent Christmas in bed with ice on her eye and her feet up watching It's a Wonderful Life. A grin touched her lips as she thought about it. He had worried about her and trusted her after that.

"What will you be wearing tonight? " She asked sweetly her eyes gleaming at the thought of being alone with him and letting her hair down. She couldn't remember the last time she had a day off. Maybe it was Christmas last year... no she had been with him on a trip to the middle east. Was it new years? No there had been a UN party she had attended to make sure he was ok. She truly couldn't remember.

well I am certainly not wearing this I replied with a chuckle pulling on the breast pocket of my shirt and letting it go. This is certainly not the kind you wear to such an event. In that case I would probably have to go with something a lil bit more loose but it was difficult for me to comprehend just what exactly that would be. Most of the time I would be wearing business attire or black tie events which war strangling me because I always had to wear a tie or a bow tie. I do not recall the last time I will ever be able to actually go to in unofficial event or a place where I was required such as this club we were going to tonight. It made me think for a good minute or so trying to picture the contents of my closet putting together the appropriate wardrobe. By that time I was able to pick out a crimson red button up shirt with long sleeves and dark trousers but then again since my memory was so fuzzy it would require me to actually go back in actually look at it.

When she brought up last year's Christmas event it made me cringe slightly remembering how she was dealt with swiftly blow by a hoodlum to her I affect me so much that I wanted to cancel all of my vents and to attend to her but she persisted that I continue on without her and that Christmas was a very lonely time because I was overseas and she was in her bed watching TV but I made it a point to send her a Christmas card full of pictures of the places I had been such as Paris some place that I knew she would enjoy for the romance. Maybe someday when I am NOT on duty I would be able to steal her away to Paris just the two of us and be able to tour the entire city and not have to worry about anything else.

Looking out the Window she let him get lost in thought. She had been doing the same lately, maybe it was because she was worried about him so much. As they pulled into the venue she smiled and lightly touched his hand, drawing him out of his reverie. "We're here." She said calmly before stepping out, glancing to Ballou as he did the same before looking g out to the many crowded on lookers. Mingled in here reporters and photographers wanting that one picture. Taking a deep breath she allowed him to get out, taking his side as Ballou led the way. She was soon pushing back the crowd and urging him forward.

It wasn't until the finally made it up the steps that she allowed herself to steal a glance in his direction. "Just a few words and we're done." She said softly as they came to the front door, meeting with the head of the embassy.

When she touched my hand that brief instant I couldn't help but smile as I stepped into the with her leading the way I could gently on my jacket to remove any noticeable wrinkles then raised my right hand and begin waving as I moved through the crowd and she made the past for me. There were tons of flashes from cameras as well as people chanting in cheering as well as asking questions but I kept going despite all this. There was no time to stop as I was still outside the embassy and still a risk as a target. I nodded to her statement as she opened the door and I walked in and was immediately greeted by members of the embassy staff you smiled and approached me to shake hands. Just a few words I kept saying to myself just a few words and they cut the ribbon with the Lord scissors and we would be gone. It was really no point in me being here as I had no real hand in the construction of this place however my presence here was deemed symbolic on account of my work. In looking at all the faces around me I had dealt with these people before settled a lot of scores and a lot of personal grudge is however I could sense that there was something amiss, something that wasn't quite right but I could not put my finger on it. Teresa kept her eyes open as she always does but I did not whisper my sentiments to her because it might confuse her she was already looking for any possible threats why I warned her that something bad would happen?

the doors closed to the embassy as we went over the rehearsal for the ceremony. There was nothing for me to do except stand outside on the steps and wave at the masses as the head of the embassy cut the ribbon himself. Other than that it was nothing else for me to do and I grew immediately board of the situation what counted that in less than 30 minutes you would be outta here and doing something a little bit more meaningful to the people.

Tessa stood at his side mumbling into her sleeve before turning back to Ballou, asking him to do a perimeter check of the room. She was uneasy when it came to things like this and this time is felt like something was wrong. the way he held himself made her uneasy. Was he feeling it too? It wasn't long before they were standing before the ribbon waiting for it to be cut. Glancing around she was silent treatment as usual though her nerves were still on edge

Taking deep breath she looked out to the crowds, taking in the faces and the postures of each. There was a lot you could tell of someone by such things. She only hoped things would go smoothly. They were almost done.

The head of the embassy gave a quick speech going over how and why this building was constructed and the hope that it would bring future peace to many troubled country then with the giant scissors he cut the ribbon and there was much rejoicing. The ribbon ends fell to the ground and the embassador held the scissors up high with 1000 flashes coming from cameras and many cheers but also a few jeers as some people thought that the building of the embassy would add tyranny to their country. There are many shouts many threats and this made me a bit nervous as I looked over at Tesla and then over at Barlow seen them in place gave me confidence. If they were not moving then I should not be removing and therefore not worried.

To the other dignitaries and shook their hands in with a smile on my face thank them for coming even though there was really no need. I kept feeling the sense of urgency, that sense of foreboding but I kept it to myself and kept a straight back and affirm John as I looked over the people in front of us. Going up to Tessa and tapping her on the shoulder and said "we should get going now". Even though it had not been a full 30 minutes I was anxious to get away from this place is quickly as possible.

Tessa stood fast as the ribbon was cut and the noise of shouting broke out. Her eyes were set on the many people, her earpiece was silent as her team did the same. When he tapped her on the shoulder she finally looked away from the crowd to him. Nodding she spoke to her team with an urgency she rarely used. "Eagles in the sky eyes on prey. Dispatch perimeter for arrival of limo and prey." She then smiled to him lightly touching his arm as she began to lead him out.

By her orders they used the back entrance of the embassy. She has an uneasy feeling when they were in the front lines and being in back didn't make her feel any better. "Only one more event." She cooed her hand on his arm gentle but urgent. She watched a Ballou opened the door and she urged him inside. Glancing around she took in the area one final time before she slid inside as well. Closing the door she let out a sigh. She was happy to be on their way.

As soon as the door closed on the limo we were on our way. The embassy shrinked behind us and I let out a sigh of relief. It was just one event down in one more to go as I adjusted the tie around my neck and looked over at Tessa and gave a soft smile showing a bit of teeth.

"One more I said to her one more and we can be on our way" though she already knew this it felt wonderful to be able to check off one item from our list. Just two more hours some more smiling and handshakes and some photos and we would be done.

We left the angry crowd behind however using the back entrance there was no doubt that there were photographers there as well. These people were smart and they always were looking for one more precious photo and as we left the back lot we saw several of them waiting for us snapping of pictures. I did not pay any attention to them I did not even wave I wanted them out of the way as quickly as possible however these people were always persistent and try to get that one good photo and they chased after us cameras in hand trying to snap one more picture. You had to admire their persistence but it would not pay off because the limo windows were tinted so that no one can look inside and see who we were.

She was happy when they were finally from the clutch of the angry crowds and photographers. Reaching over she touched his arm tenderly her eyes turning concerned. "Are you alright to do the next event? You seemed really shaken back there." She had seen the change in him, no matter how small it had been. After south time together she was bound to catch every hint and every little difference.

Slowly the limo began to to pull into the school. Stretching she looked out the Window her thin fingers running along her black pants, picking off a string before looking back at him. "There's still time if you want to cancel... If you aren't up for it..." She let her voice trail off. She was obviously worried about him.

"I am alright for the next event, I assure you, my dear" giving a telling smile. "Have a little bit of faith. They are impressionable children. Children need to be assured that there is a bright future for them".

Relaxing in my seat and adjusted my cuffs with the opposite hand I turned my wrist ever so slightly towards me I looked at the Gold Coast wings then lifted my eyes towards her and said "Do you know where I got these cufflinks?" turning them back towards her so she can see. They were 12 karat gold with a single cure it diamond in the center. "These were given to me by the President of the United States many years ago, just before you were put on my security. I do not understand how I would be given such a gift, but on the card they said that they were for a job well done representing the United States. In the end I do not believe I deserve such gifts. What I deserve at least is knowing that I did a good job in preventing such strife in the world..." But letting out a very heavy sigh I have many nights where I wonder whether or not it is actually beneficial. In the times I listen to the radio or watch the television there's always more conflict in the world people fighting over trivial reasons and bloodbaths that seem to have no it but I change my tone of voice maybe in talking to these children there might be a hope.

I could tell that she really wanted to go to the club and to be able to relax what I weighed her hopes with those of the children that were expecting us and I nodded firm tone said "we must go see the children. I have hopes for tonight as well, Theresa but we must see the children."

Smiling slightly she nodded. "I understand." Her voice was soft and her eyes seeming to lighten. "I just don't want you pushing yourself." She cooed before nodding. "Let's do this then." Smiling she stepped out taking a deep refreshing breath when she found no photographers. "Come sir. it will be easy." She nodded to Ballou before leading him into the school

The principal greeted them with a smile and a handshake. She shook his hand as well and it wasn't long before they were making their way towards the gym stage. The students were already making their way in as they stepped behind the stage waiting to be announced. This was the future. These faces would one day rules the country and help those in need. At least she hoped so. "They are so young..." She thought out loud. They were high schoolers but when it came down to it they were young. Still new to the world and still innocent to how truly evil the world could be.

She glanced down to his cuff links, thinking back to his story before it clicked. This was why he had gotten them. Not because he had stopped wars and brought peace in times of need. It was because he was a brought light to the darks regions of the country. Brought hope to the children who were hopeless and gave a thought of beginning a new with the future ahead. He helped to show that it was possible to be caring and have hope and peace to the next generation. She wanted to tell him but just as she was about to speak his name was called on stage by the principal. Taking a deep breath she walked behind him on stage. Taking up her spot in the background she stood as he waved and began to speak. She was always nervous on stage even when she was just the guard in the background. She was amazed at how natural he always was.

The gym was hushed as I began to speak. There was no script but everything came flowing out of my head as I took the microphone from the holder and began to walk about. "I see hundreds of faces out there looking at me and many are hoping that one day you'll have a job like mine. I can tell you, it's not easy. It is very demanding; always on the go. Who here loves to travel?" Over half the gym raised their hands. "This past year alone I've been to Germany, Korea, Japan, Egypt, Italy, Russia, and India, and that was just last year." Their faces began to beam bright in awe, "But all of the traveling I do not have time for anything else. I don't have a wife or a child waiting for me at home and i've been doing this for over ten years." My voice began to turn a little downward in disappointment, "It's very disheartening having to come home to an empty home for the holidays." There was a pause then my face shined, "However, if you do like to travel, working for the U.N is a very rewarding profession! Just half a half hour ago we were at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the the new embassy and you'll meet people from all around the world, learn their customs and how their country differs from that of America." Pointing back towards Theresa with my hand I said, "My head of security and I were in England and we found out the hard way that people drive on the left side of the road and not the right," giving a quick frown of embarrassment as the children laughed.

Their faces were bright and looking towards us. They were high school students and many were close to graduation and after that they were looking for guidance. I could remember being like that, wondering what to do when I received my diploma and I'm betting Theresa did as well, but I wasn't going to sugar coat my job. "If you want to work for the U.N in anyway," I said, "You first need a good education and a good education starts with you" pointing towards a young black girl in the front row. "It's not always the teachers or the books or the school itself" I said before approaching and dipping the microphone down to her, "Young lady, who is responsible for your education?"

Her eyes were wide, looking left to right before leaning in and answering, "My parents?"

"Do your parents read your books?" I asked.

"...no"

"So, who is responsible?"

"The teachers?"

"Teachers-teach but who is the one that has to do the assignments and the homework?"

"Me" she answered.

"That's right" I nodded, "So, who is responsible for your education?"

"I am!" she replied.

"That's right" I nodded and stood up, "Every one of you is responsible for your education."

Tessa blinked as she pointed towards her, Blushing as he did. She gave a small smile and wave to the teens before he continued speaking. She watched in awe her eyes on his every move and every move as he continued. She held back a chuckle as she remembered their experience in England. It had been a journey alright. He spoke of the many places they had gone. Thinking back she remembered that they would need passports renewed this year.

She watched the young girl speak happily before seeing a young boy looking down at his hands. She knew that look all to we'll. The way his hair was messed because he probably didn't have a comb, and the way he sat alone even though he was among many. Yep, he was a foster kid, or wished he was with his home life. Glancing she saw a few others as well. She remembered when she was in that seat, not knowing where to go or what to do. She had been lucky enough to get a scholarship for volleyball and swimming. It kept her out if trouble which allowed her to have the jib she did but some of these kids... not, most of these kids wouldn't make it. Their home lives would push them to the brink as her 'brother' had cracked.

She didn't know where the other kids she had lived with had gone, nor her foster parents. , she had had so many it made her head spin. Taking a deep breath she looked back at him with a longing. What had it been like to have parents that cared.

I believe I continued on for what felt like an hour looking at my watch was only 20 minutes. I went back up to the scene little girls before and after her name her name was Melissa very soft gentle name what she like a little boy next to her seems to be rather distant. A glance over my shoulder work real quick it test and she had this weird look on her face real quick until our ice connected perhaps there was some sort of connection.I did not know what was what it was like to grow up on the wrong side of the tracks my parents were loving it hard working I'd had everything I could need in life but with that or a lot of things I did not have as well. I did not have a steady relationship I did not have much of what you would call free time and I did not have very many people I can call actual friends. I had business acquaintances and a lot of trouble makers I met with on a daily basis. Is not what I would consider a life however to the outside public what I would do with considered a miracle but I did not look at that way.

I finished my speech by at answering a few questions there were many that asked the same thing, where am I going to next how much did I get paid and who did I hate the most or which country did I hate the most.

I always answer these questions in the exact same way; I did not hate anybody matter fact my whole life time there was never a single person in this entire world that I actually hated because he was a very powerful word. I did not like Hitler I did not like Osama but I never met these people and uh I know them to be evil I did not feed them. It was rather awkward question to answer because they were looking at me expecting that I hated many tyrants many mass murderers but they were young and impressionable so I did not hold it against him. I did not know how much I actually get paid because even though I work for the you when I actually have to pay taxes and I did not know how much I actually get paid after taxes because someone else always handled my finances for me. What I do know is I do not own a vehicle because I always had a limo taking me everywhere. This also got them excited.the next country I went I was going to go to next I had forgotten so I turn to Tesla and second her to come forward a little bit to answer that question because she knew everything about my planning. Plus it was a good opportunity for her to get into the spotlight a little bit.

She was lost in her thoughts when he looked back at her. Their eyes met and she gave him a small smile. He was trying to connect and it was working. The kids were so happy to be talking to someone so influential. He motioned for her to come forward and her stomach did a small flip. Biting her lip she stepped into the spotlight, looking at the many faces. Taking a deep breath she looked to the girl who had asked the question. "Tomorrow were are going to Moscow. From there we get to go to Russia and then depending on meatier well be going to Spain as well. We never truly know where we are going to go until the UN contacts us. We go where we are needed. We could be on our way to somewhere important and something comes up and we turn around. There have been times we've been on our way to a country and had to stop our travels to go to a country in the opposite direction because of urgency."

Feeling as though she had answered the question she was about to go back to her spot when another question arose. What did she do? It was such a simple question that had so many answers. Thinking for a. moment she smiled. "I'm in charge of making sure he is safe. That nothing happens to him during our travels." she said simply, glancing over to him with a smile. Looking back to the many faces she stood next to him just in case she needed to answer anything and to also check her team.

Everyone seemed I position some of them looked board but they were still looking determined on the perimeter. Glancing at her watch she nodded. It had been almost 45 mi used. It wouldn't be lo g now.

When she answered the question one of the little boys asked "me a girl protects you?" I turned to him and smiled "Yes because I am that important apparently". There was some laughter because some of the boys did not like having a woman be there bodyguard however they did not see for the way I did. And I did not want to linger long looking at my watch I could tell we are just about done so I put up the microphone and said with my arms out to my side "I would like to thank you all for coming just remember that you are responsible for your own education teachers and the books are merely yours assistance make sure to choose carefully in life because every choice you make ilregardless of how trivial in a scene now will be follow you into your future so choose wisely there is always a choice if someone tells you they're only choose two choices then there is always a third. Remember that."

turning about and leaving the stage I approached Tessa what the huge sigh of relief in my voice I said "Now we can finally go and we can get you out of those clothes". It was not meant to be flirting it was really meant as an invitation for her to finally be able to relax for once in her life.
