Protect Me (CLOSED)

Holding up my own bruised crystal glass half filled with wine to her's there was a chime as they connected and resonated through the busy interior of the building, "Amen" I replied with a beaming smile. Pulling my glass back I took a sip and felt the cool, tingling sensation flow down the back of my throat and into my belly. Ah, it was refreshing as I savored the unique flavor and placed it back onto the tablecloth and rested my hands on the surface.

"You worry so much because you care," I replied, "Worrying means that you're thinking..." relaxing and looking into her eyes. It was turning into a bit of romance and I bet Ballou was jealous now wishing he could be in my seat, but I cleared my head. "Worry about someone means that you care about that person and want to ensure that they're safe," lightly shrugging my shoulders, "that's what my mother always taught me." Ballou was a good man, and I agreed with her sentiments and agreed that it was a good choice to post him as second in command. He reminded me of DiNozoo from NCIS, strong worker but a womanizer. All we needed was Abbie.

Smiling she took a sip savoring the rich taste before placing her cup down. "I guess you are right... My little brother used to always tell me I cared to much." She thought back to the red headed boy who had come to call her big sister so long ago. She had been an only child but once in the system you quickly got brothers and sisters. Thinking back she realized that she had always cared about the people she was around. Even when it came to Ballou she would risk her life to keep him safe.

Glancing over to Ballou she wondered if he was bored with such a quiet place. Looking back to she smiled. "I've heard about your mother and father a lot so I'm guessing you were an only child? " She asked softly. She had been with him for so long though she had never really spoke to him about his life before college and before the fame.

"Yes. I am the only child. My parents wanted a child so desperately that they had me my mother wanted another for me to play with, but my father was transferred soon after I was born so they decided that only one child would be beneficial to them. So I grew up without a brother or sister. It was a very disappointing childhood in hindsight just for that reason I did not have anyone else at home that I could play with.but I was able to play with the kids at school to the many other countries that we travel to. However, that was a long time ago I try not to reflect on that" lowering my head a little bit.I did miss them I miss them terribly.

The waitress came by with two small porcelain plates and laid them before us then a basket with fresh baked bread and small tub of butter. "Here you are the waitress smiled enjoy your on trees will be on your way shortly.the aroma hovering from the bread was enticing and I took a big sniff of it side that is something I also miss home cooked".

Nodding she watched as he obviously remembered his child hood. "I'm sorry.. if it brought up sadness." she said quietly. "But I think... everyone looks at things differently. Everyone seems to want what others have. The whole grass is greener. But... deep down... I think that the grass is only greener if you stop watering yours."

Seeing the bed she smiled happily. She thought of home cooked. It was foreign to her I a sense. Sitting down and eating around a table filled with food others had made and slaved over. She had never had it... besides what was in the restaurants they went too. "This bread looks tasty." She smiled. Maybe one day she would get to have home cooked.

Taking the small loaf of bread in hand I held it up before her and asked her politely to grab one end and I will grab the other. This was a rather improvised ceremony of breaking of the bread I did not know how exactly to do it because I was not well versed in religion what I said "Let this be like another toast breaking of the bread and hopefully breaking the chains of her old ways."

It was what was to come with on the fly but I gave a smile to her because I wanted to do this. she had come from a hard life and no I did not come from a hard life myself it was lonely as we have already discussed what I wanted to show her that tonight hope we will make a new life for ourselves maybe not together as a couple per se but hopefully as a stronger bond between us.out of the corner of my eye I could see that bhalo was becoming old a little bit distracted by ass even through his sunglasses but I shrugged and continue to look at Tessa and she held onto the other end of the bread in with a nod I replied in the site low voice, "and pull!"

Laughing she took hold of the bread, pulling when he said. "To a new beginning." She said sweetly her eyes twinkling in the low light. . "I'm so glad we did this." She cooed as she watched as their waitress brought out their food. "wow." she said quietly, nibbling on her bread as she stared at the food. She had eaten at many restaurants with him but she couldn't quite remember such a fancy affair. Blushing she took another sip of her wine taking it all in.

"Do you ever see yourself doing a desk job? " She asked off hand. She had wondered if she would one day turn to such a thing but it didn't seem like something she would enjoy herself. Taking a small bite of her food she let out a soft mmm.

"I am glad we did this as well," I smiled. When the plate was brought before me and I looked upon the plate placed before me. "I did picture myself as a desk job, but I did not picture myself sitting there for very low," I confessed, "I don't think that my purpose was to be sitting there writing reports and writing to people to get them to stop," as I spoke I took up my fork and stabbed it into my pasta and slowly began to twirl it to swirl my noodles. "In the beginning that was what I was suppose to do; write to people, but after a few months, this is before you came to me, I decided to speak to people face to face. So, I guess I was," chuckling a bit.

"The question I have to ask to you is; if you had a choice what would you have done if you could have selected your own career?" she had the body of a model and well built that she would have been able to work the runways and be able to garner a high paying job posing and not putting herself at risk as such, or even an actress. She definitely could be a stunt artist. My concentration was broke when I heard the screech of a violin and lifted up my eyes to see a player coming towards us, in one hand was his piece and the other was his saw as he slowly began to play a tune and came towards us. Ballou came to put him to a stop, but I waved for him to come forth as the player began to play a rather romantic tune that I think was, Sonata.

Nodding she smiled trying to imagine him behind a desk. It didn't seem to fit. Thinking of his question she bit her lip. "Honestly.... I'd probably be in the same jib... or maybe a social worker to help foster kids but even then I think I would just get myself in trouble." she chuckled before hearing the soft screech of the violin. Blinking she looked around before spotting him.

She was just about to glance at Ballou when he was waved off. Blushing she looked to the violinist again as he began to play. It was absolutely beautiful. She had never had a violin ply for her before. Smiling shyly she glanced at him her cheeks a pale pink. If she didn't know better she would have thought it was planned.

I kept my eyes on the player as she slowly began to circle around the table, occasionally dipping himself as he slid his bow across the strings. His notes were flawless as his left hand pressed down on the catgut and the right drew and pushed. The man must have spent years perfecting his trade. The notes carried through the room and were drawing the attention of the others at the other tables who turned to watch. My face was a bit red as I watched but tried not to stare then I placed my eyes back on Theresa. He circled us four times before he finally stopped and let his arms down and everyone in the room applauded. "Gratis" he smiled at us and kindly took his bow before departing.

I could never play the violin, but that was incredible. Theresa's cheeks were a light pink and she had her lips lightly pressed together as I nervously chuckled before buckling my brow, "What? You have this look on your face as though i'm guilty of something."

Smiling she watched, entranced by the music as he stopped she looked back to him before laughing at his comment. "If I didn't know better I'd think you were." She teased before taking another small bite of her food. "That was very beautiful. It's been forever since I've heard a Sonata." She cooed, slipping a stray piece of hair behind her ear. She felt like a teen at the shy date. Nervous of what he thought and shy as to what to say.

"So we're you one to go to the clubs in college? " She asked curiously feeling Ballou gaze on them as he watched. She wondered what he was thinking. Was he jealous, angry, bored? Figuring she'd never know and she wasn't truly worried about it she turned her attention fully back to him sipping her wine.

"No," I replied with a light shake of my head before taking a bite over my pasta, "I remember, maybe going one time when I turned twenty-one. The guys in my senior class practically dragged me there thinking that they could get me drunk now that I turned the right age." Scoffing at this I finished off the pasta on my fork then went back for another helping. I watched her brush her long hair over her ears. She was very pretty with the long hair. Not sure why that was, but found her very attractive with that long hair and the way she brushed it over her ear and the glow in her eyes, it was different compared to the steely eyed look she gave when she was on duty. "I didn't like the club. Found it to be too loud with too many of the...well...wrong kinds of people. Girls that were 18 pretending to be 21 and the like. I didn't drink, but my friends got wasted. Guess who got to drive them home?" chuckling a bit, "The irony of it all. They tried to get me drunk and I ended up as the only sober man in the bunch. What about you? Did you enjoy the night life?"

She listened with a curiosity she seemed to always hold when it came to him. Chuckling at his story she remembered her own twenty-first. "I used to go... mainly to keep my friends out of trouble. We were from the bad side of the tracks, it wasn't unusual for the police to set up outside the club waiting for people tons lip up. On my twenty-first my best friend did the same thing, dragged me to the club hoping to get me drunk and find me a guy to go home with." She shook her head. "She ended up getting into a fight with someone over boy drama. She was drunk and I was sober. Thankfully I got her home before the police got a hold of her."

Taking another bite of her food she thought about it. "Most of the time I sat in the corner with a book. I wasn't the most.... attractive person back then. I had this idea stuck in my head back then. I had to stand out, I had to look different to be me. I had wild red hair that was cut short, I had a lip ring and wore tight clothes along with braces. I was living on my own and thought th e world was against me. I didn't exactly let people in back then... I still don't but I at least I don't push people away as much anymore." She confessed taking another sip of wine.

I stared at her for a moment. It was difficult to picture her with wild red hair and piercings and my eyes squinted to see if I could find that tiny indention that would show where it was, but I couldn't find it and certainly with the tight fitting clothes. The red dress showed off a lot of elegance and class, but the tight fitting jeans and maybe matching shirt would be enough for a lot of college boys to drop their beers and come gloving for a dance.

Breaking my concentration I scoffed, "If I may ask, though, what exactly made you decide to join the UN security? I mean, it's not exactly the easiest job to get and you had to know what would happen if you did go, right?" but then paused for a moment to impose another question, "What would have happened if you were assigned to another diplomat, say, one that was more strict than me or with a family?" I knew tons of other diplomats with as colorful history as hers' with heavy nightlife or were rigidly strict in having everything their way.

She thought about his questions trying to think of the best way to explain herself. Finally she took a deep breath pushing away her empty plate. "Well... To start I didn't exactly.... pick the U. N... they approached me. I was currently working as an intern, learning to do military paperwork and we'll on the navel base back home. I had managed to get a few connections and on day they were having a training course in self defense for the soldiers. It was non-lethal. Mainly to help with UN issues when it came down to it. I had been working on getting my major in foreign affairs, I wanted to be a translator really. Thought it would be fun except for well.... learning the actual languages." She laughed. "Anyways... a friend of mine at the base knew I had taken martial arts and asked if I would help. Basically just be the dumb for them to throw around. I said yes and when I arrived I found that they were using old techniques that had been designed in the eighties.... Well.... With basic training now the moves were obsolete and easy to get out of." Running her hand through her hair she blushed. "I tried to tell them.. but you k ow the military... they are always right. So when they wouldn't listen I showed them. When it was my turn I attacked like all the others but with one difference. When they put. me in the designated hold I but them in a better one. I shocked everyone there and I ended up teaching the class. A week later the UN approached me with this job."

Sipping her wine she thought of his other question, Biting her lip. She had never thought about it before. "I guess I would have to adapt... though I don't think I would enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy working for you. I wouldn't mind the family or the strictness but I don't know if I could handle a partier. To many security issues."

Buckling my brow and nodding slightly, "Well, if you knew some of the men, like I did, you'll know that the partiers were more wild than you think. I met Mister Coehorn from England. He moved here a many years ago and I met him at a Christmas party. Found out later that he spent about four hours a day in going to clubs and picking up all sorts of ladies," then chuckled, "and a few men. Needless to say he was soon out of the picture because of this saying that it was not a good image for the UN that he be bringing home all sorts of fluzzies."

"Still" going back to her past choices, "image what would have happened if you had gone through and been an interpreter and still worked with the UN. You could have still been assigned to me and we would have still traveled the world where instead of you working for me as security, you would be working right beside me." That would have been a more enticing job because she would have been more loose in her life, not worry about threats and instead worked to speak with people eye to eye.

Thinking about it she smiled, giving and crooked grin before shaking her head. "I don't think I could do it... I'm not good at being in the spot light. I'm terrified I'll say something wrong." She said softly finished her wine before she wiped her mouth, leaving a small mark of pink on the napkin. Looking down she thought about how her life would have been if things had turned out different. "I like my job... although I'm not important and I'm not known by the world... I can still feeling like I'm doing something important. I'm keeping someone safe, protecting someone important. My whole life have protected someone. Be it my friends or the other foster kids or you. It's what I'm good at." She smiled.

"What about you? Had things turned out differently? Would you still be I this job or would you have chosen another path? " She asked as the waitress came by asking if they needed refills or anything.

"To be honest, i'm not quite sure. My parents pressed me to take a good job, such as this," relaxing into my seat with a sigh, fork still in hand, "but after I got my degree the UN, like you, came knocking. If it wasn't for them I think I would have been working for some company and I didn't like working for a profit," shaking my head lightly in bitterment, "No. I'm not about profit or like that. I'm looking at the bigger picture" smiling before taking another bite of my pasta.

The waitress came by once again and asked how we were enjoying our food, "Yes, it's delightful" I replied as she poured some more wine into our glasses. I was about halfway done with my pasta and looking at Theresa's plate she was spending more time talking than eating, so she was behind me. No worries. We weren't on a schedule. "After this, would you like some desert?" I asked, "I hear that they have a fabulous menu."

She nodded smiling. "Maybe it was fate." She said sweetly before nibbling on her food. Taking a deep breath she thought a out desert before shaking her head. "I don't think I'll be able to eat desert unless we split something" She said as she Co tinted to eat. She was slowing down and filling up. She continued to sip her wine making sure not to drink to much. She wanted to enjoy this night not get tipsy.

"I think the only thing I would change... is I wish I could get you more time to go home. " she said off hand thinking to their deschssion. She was happy with her life.

"that would be nice" I replied, "maybe, though, if I were to get more time off I would take you home with me. My parents had this nice place out in Colorado, it's a winter cabin of sorts. A real place to go to and not have to worry out there. They have a land line, but no phone, no internet, and none of that. Great skiing and mountains thick with trees," a beaming smiles came across my face just thinking about it. Right now my parents would be up there, just the two of them having a good 'ol time on their own vacation. "Perhaps for the next holiday we should put in some leave requests or go on vacation." I could not remember how to do that process because until tonight I did not have a vacation. Taking another sip of my mine I could feel the effects of the alcohol and decided to lay off of it and go for some water to wash it down. My pasta was just about done. Taking the napkin and wiping my lips and placing it back onto my lap and I smiled at her and looked her over once more.

Blushing as his request she smiled looking down at her food realizing she was almost done. "That would be nice. To get away for a while. I've never been skiing. I've never been to the mountains either." She said softly. Wiping her own mouth she pushed her plate away taking a deep breath. "I'm absolutely stuffed." she chuckled as she leaned back in her chair for am moment before sitting back up. "would you like desert because here she comes." She chuckled as she glanced up seeing the waitress coming back, as if sensing that they were done with their food.

The waitress came by and asked "desert?" And I nodded and asked for a menu and quickly produced one. I handed it over to Theresa and asked that she browse it and find something that we would be able to share. Leaning forward over the table I bent my arms and clasped my hands together in a resting position as I looked at her holding the menu before flicking my eyes at the waitress. "It will be a moment" I said to her and she depart. Going back to the cabin I tacked on that winter was the best time to go because it was so isolated that no one could bother you and the skiing was capital during December and the fireside was the best to sit down and just watch the flames and sip on hot cocoa.

"How does the chocolate mousse sound?" She asked softly handing him then menu and thinking of the cabin. "It sounds amazing. To be so isolated. No worries, no people just you and nature." She could almost imagine cuddling up in front of the fire, a cup of hot chocolate and a good book. A set of comfortable pajamas and someone close to you. Strong arms around her shoulders and kiss here and there. Realizing what she was thinking her cheeks flared red and she quickly changed gears. "Is it hard to learn to skii? It looks to difficult." She mumbled feeling her face hot and her breathing hitched.

She couldn't believe her state of mind. She silently scolded her thoughts know it was wrong Taking a deep breath she waited for him to place the order.

Her cheeks were suddenly glowing red. Not sure why but there was a thin smile as she tried to cover it with a hand as I read the menu. "The mousse sounds lovely" raising a hand to summon back the waitress and placing our order. She quickly left. "Skiing is so difficult. There are numerous hills that are gentle and easy. Its the steeper ones that you have to worry about. Though, I do confess that I had not been skiing in years." And it had been awhile since I had been to the cabin but my parents were always welcoming and I could really use a fireside at this point in time.

A moment later the waitress came back with the chocolate mousse and placed it before Theresa with two new forks. "Enjoy" she said. I took one fork for myself amd said " you take the first bite".

Smiling she looked at him hopefully. "maybe you could teach me." Looking to the mousse she took a fork and timidly took the first bite. With a small mm she nodded. "That's really good." She cooed letting him take a Hite as well. "I hope your enjoying yourself because I am enjoying myself." She said sweetly her eyes lighting up. She had never had so much fun just going out to dinner.

"Indeed I am, my dear" as she slid the mousse over and I took a small amount for myself. Holding it up to my lips I took my time in savoring the sweet flavor of the chocolate as it dissolved in my mouth and I swallowed. "I can teach you to ski, but be ready to fall down quite a bit. I fell down over half the time when I first tried it but it is more mind over matter." Having taken my portion, and feeling stuffed myself I placed the fork down and slid the plate and slid it back to Theresa and nodded gently. I was thoroughly enjoying myself and this was it the dinner, there was still the club to go to afterwards.

"You go ahead and try some more of the mousse" I said "its quite good. I hear that they made it all from scratch. I am enjoying myself. I feel so much better now".
