Pure Moonlight (closed)

Selena was stunned when she saw the baby, a perfect little wolf cub. Ruben and Krestina had been human when they were born and Ruben had gone through his change only recently. She was expecting another human girl this time around, but she was staring a lovely little lass with beautiful white fur.

Everyone in the room was quiet, looking at that girl in awe as she squeaked and cried. Her blue eyes looked to both of her parents and soon Selena reached out to take her daughter, holding her tightly against her chest as the cub finally quieted to soft whimpers and coos.

"A wolf?" Selena asked all that were gathered, a little taken back by this turn of events. "The others were human."

"Boys are usually born human and change later. Girls tend not to change if they're born human, but they're more likely to be born as Wolves," Elas explained with a gentle smile. "But the white fur... well, that's just good luck. They say white fur is the blessing of the Lunasian Goddess, a blessing of nature. If nothing else, it makes her very special and the tribe will consider her birth a sign of good luck."

With a sharp but soft cry from his newborn daughter, Kreston's pointed ears flicked forward and he reached out to smooth the girl's fur back as he whispered softly to her in Lunar, welcoming her and letting her know she was dearly loved. Elas and Koure cleaned everything up and left the proud parents alone while they stuck around outside for a while just in case the mother and newborn needed anything.

Selena was in awe of the little girl that was in her arms, glancing at Kreston as he spoke to her in Lunar and welcomed her to the world. She gave him a smile and kissed him gently, her forehead pressing against his own as she thought about Ruben and the little girl that she had already lost. It would be hard over the next few days as she worked through her emotions, but in the end she knew she would be alright.

"I want to name her Luna." Selena said softly as the little girl nuzzled against her chest, whimpering as she explored the world around her from her mother's arms.

Kreston chuckled softly and murmured, "I was just about to say the same thing..." His ebony fur stood out like nothing else against his daughter's ivory, almost slightly slivery fur as he laid his hand across her own tiny hands and she began to settle. "You know the moment my parents see her, they might just steal her," he chuckled softly, letting his head rest against Selena's. "And your mother might do the same."

There was one other person that she was thinking about as Kreston mentioned their families meeting little Luna. Selena's dark eyes turned towards Kreston as she gave him a smile and let out a soft sigh.

"I wish Ghell were here to see her." She said softly, letting him know that she still thought about the wolf that she considered to be her father. "He would love them both."

"Maybe one day he will," Kreston told her. It'd never been confirmed that Ghell had died after Selena had run away from home, only that he'd gone missing after Tamblin's man Oliver attacked him. There had been clues pointing to both his death and his survival, but nothing solid in that decade. Ever since Kreston had learned of the mysterious Wolf whose origins even Kitty and Tamblin hadn't known, he'd felt a debt to Ghell for his care for Selena.

"Maybe." Selena said softly as she nuzzled against Luna for a moment, a wave of exhaustion coursing over her as Kreston watched over the two women that meant to most to him. "Until then, can we give her the middle name Ghella?"

"Of course we can, love." Kreston slid out from behind her and let her lay back. "You need plenty of sleep. I'll look after her and let you know when the family arrives. I told them to come in small groups for your sake as much as hers." He drew Luna into his arms for the first time, and if he hadn't been in love before, he certainly was then.

"I love you, Kres." Selena murmured as he helped her to lie down to sleep as he took Luna and promised to care for her. "Wake me if she gets hungry."

"I love you too, Selena," he smiled down at her and remained close beside her until she was fast asleep. It wasn't until early evening that she felt a gentle hand on her cheek, the familiar hand of Dayja.

"I'm sorry to wake you, eldere, but little Luna needs you. Kreston will be in with her in a moment," she told Selena softly. Dayja was never the sort to get terribly excited and giddy, but the smile on her face told of her absolute joy. She knew of the girl Selena had lost, but Luna would be her first granddaughter she got to hold and love like the girl deserved.

"Kosovo, Dayja." Selena said as she woke to the news that Luna needed her. "Has my Ma or Vincenzo been here yet? She'll be cross if I don't send someone to at least let them know soon that she is here."

Selena gingerly sat up, leaning back against the pillows as Dayja took a seat beside her. "She's a beautiful little girl. It makes me miss Krestina very much."

Taqu'un sent word with one of his warriors heading for town, so they ought to come around tomorrow," Dayja told her with a smile. At the mention of Krestina, her smile didn't dim but it saddened. "I would give anything to have at least met the poor dear. But it looks to me like someone wanted you and Kreston to have another chance. Luna's especially healthy according to Elas, so I don't think there's much to worry about."

Kreston came in then with a softly whimpering Luna in his arms, her tiny white hands clinging to his vest. "Someone's a bit hungry and misses her Ma," Kreston said with a smile to Selena.

"Luna was a surprise. I was content with Ruben, but there are forces at work in the universe that saw it fit to send her to us." Selena admitted as Kreston entered the room with their daughter, the baby whimpering as he announced that she was hungry and missed her Ma.

"Well, how can I say no to such a little beauty." Selena murmured as she took Luna in her arms and cradled her close, letting her nurse until she was calmed. "A perfect little beauty."

"Volgo's absolutely mad about her," Dayja chuckled. "The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up like when he first met Ruben. He's wanted grandchildren ever since Taqu'un and Kreston came of age."

"Ruben came home earlier than expected, so he got to meet her too. He adores her, love," Kreston told her softly.

"It doesn't surprise me that the little sneak came home early from the keep." Selena said as she looked towards Kreston. "I suppose you can let him in to see me."

She gave her mate a smile, knowing that Ruben was as stubborn as the rest of the Ghis family when he wanted to be. However, he rarely let anyone see that stubborn streak. When he wanted to be close to his mother and father, he would do whatever it took to do that.

Kreston rose to go fetch his son, and soon the boy came to his mother's side and nuzzled against her. He never liked being away from her for long. "Hi, Ma," he murmured.

"Hi, love." Selena said as she kissed Ruben's cheek when he came to nuzzle against her.

He was becoming more and more like a wolf each day, even if he did still hold on to some of the pieces of him that made him human. She missed the little boy that he had been, but she knew that he would be a strong man as he grew.

"What do you think of Luna?" She asked him, needing to know what his opinion was on the new addition to their family. "Think we should keep her?"

"Is that even a question?" Ruben chuckled. "I love her." Ruben had long hoped for a little brother or sister, and he'd been awaited her excitedly since the day Selena had announced she was expecting. He'd carved up toys for her, even learned to sew and knit from his grandmother so he could make things and teach his sibling.

"I don't know. I'm sure there are lots of people out there that would love having a beautiful little girl in those household." Selena continued to tease her son as he told her that he loved his sister. "That's because you're a good boy. You love your family fiercely."

Ruben climbed up to curl next to his mother and newborn sister. "I thought I wanted a little brother for a while... but I think a sister is perfect." He let out a yawn then, having been distracted by this and that all day so that he wouldn't worry about his mother or try to get home too early.

"Get some sleep, love. Gran should be here soon." Selena said as Ruben yawned and stretched out beside her, his eyes already closing as Luna soon did the same. "It feels good to have my family here. All of you play such an important part in my life that I don't know how I would make it through without you."

Kitty and Vincenzo and several other Ghis family members didn't show up until the next morning, Vincenzo having convinced Kitty to give Selena a night to rest.

Late that morning, Selena could hear Kreston welcome them in and by the lovely smells that accompanied them, they'd brought food. Kitty came in quietly with a smile on her face, far too excited for her own good, but holding it back for Selena's sake.

Luna was quietly looking around the room in the clumsy way that an infant could, making soft noises every now and then as the door opened and Kitty stepped inside. Selena had just dressed in a soft gown, smiling as her mother struggled so hard to contain herself.

"Go ahead, Ma. I know you want to spoil her." Selena said softly as the infant was scooped up into the sure arms of her grandmother.

Kitty was incredibly surprised to find little Luna was a white werewolf. Having spent so much time talking to Ghell when her children were young, she knew the significance. "Oh, Selena... she's so beautiful," Kitty whispered. Luna seemed perfectly at peace in her grandmother's arms. Thus far she'd proven to be a very calm child and hadn't truly cried at all, only occasionally whimpering when she was hungry or uncomfortable.

"She is a little beauty." Selena said as she looked over her mother's shoulder at the infant that was staring back at them with clear blue eyes. "Luna Ghella."

She knew the name would mean something to her mother. Their protector had been gone so long and had missed so much. Selena desperately wished someone would find him, bring him home, and let him see just how the family prospered today.
