I just had sex last night, the condom broke I am scared she is going to get pregnant. I know she just got on the pill like 3 or 4 days ago is it enough time for it to be effective? Also she said she just started ovulating today. What are the chances of her getting pregnant?

Hate to break it to ya but her chances are pretty good. Even if she has been on the pill for years there is still a risk of her getting pregnant.

Going by what my doctor used to tell me when I was on the damn thing, it won't be effective until she's taken it properly for 7 consecutive days...best bet is to get her to a pharmacy and get the morning after pill hun, just take care of her when she takes it, that stuff can make you feel like death.

Morning after pill is a good idea, could cost you between $10 and $30 depending on where you get it, and I do think you need a prescription for it. Prescription shouldn't be hard to get, even just go to a walk-in clinic and explain about the accident and they shouldn't give you any trouble.

Getting the prescription filled, however, might be another story, depending on where you live.

Good point. Some pharmacists will look down thier nose at you and begin to lecture you on thier morals. Got to watch out for them.

Yeah, just like others said, you'd better to get your girl the after morning pills within 72 hours after the sex.

Sorry, morning after pill, not after morning pill. (the phrase is weird)

It depends on which pill she uses when it becomes effective. Mostly it's NOT after a few days. With mine it took a month (and a period) after which I could consider myself to be safe (as safe as the pill gets). It's true there is no 100% guarantee your girl will NEVER get pregnant while on the pill, even after this period you have to take into consideration, but it is not as bad as a few here want you to believe.

But in your case, after a few days, I would say there is a good chance she was not safe. But... also not all women get pregnant that easy. I have been on the pill for many years but I have been unsafe at times as well (for instance when you were sick and threw up it could be you have the same effect as missing one or two pills, or I indeed forgot to take them...) and I never got pregnant. There's also lots of women who try to get pregnant and it takes them ages or it never happens at all.

So... you should be worried a bit. She should go to her doctor and get a test and advice. But don't get all gloomy and concerned for nothing. Just be sensible and do what you have to do to ease your mind (and hers!).

Good luck!

I don't know where you live, but my advice is to get yourself to the closest Planned Parenthood. The one in my area has a stock of EC (Emergency Contraception). Heck, I have a pack in case anything bad happens. Better safe than sorry.

Anyone know if it's 7 days after completing an antibiotic as well? Or the next whole cycle not interuppted by an antibiotic?

Keep an eye on that expiration date..

with mine (when I was on it a year ago) I was told to use other protection while on the antibiotics and for 7 days after finishing antibiotics, and if the taking of the antibiotics or 7 days after included my pill free days, then I had to go straight onto the next pack without my pill free days :)

Any time you go to a Planned Parenthood, the doc will ask if you're on any type of birth control (or if you ever have been), if you think you're pregnant, or are pregnant. The pregnancy test is nothing, if proven negative. It's a precautionary measure. You will fill out a medical history form, get a list of available BC options, but they'll most likely recommend the Pill first. The pills take seven days to fully be effective in your system, but any antibiotics or other meds may affect the results of the pill, so use protection or an alternative backup method. They're there to help.

Most doctors tell you to use backup protection for the first month you're on the pill. So, at this point, you need emergency contraception - the morning after pill.

Also, condoms breaking can be a sign you're wearing the wrong size. Dunno if this happens often with you but it might be something to consider.

Good luck.

Thats what I had heard about the pill so am using those guidlines even though I am on the ring I figured it was a safe assumption.
