Rambling Rosie's Retreat

Hi all , anyone actually doing anything special for Valentines tomorrow?
I've got a lovely 13 hour shift to look forward to

Everything was twice as expensive and all booked up. We're dining out on Sunday instead :rose:
Good idea, I have bought her a bunch of roses and a card but will only see her for10 mins in the morning as she comes home and I go out to work

I despise Valentine's Day. Romance is a lifestyle, an "every day" thing, not once a year. Did you ever watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer? All the vampires and monsters stayed in on Halloween because it was "tacky." That is how I feel about Valentine's Day. It is a crass money grab by the De Beers, Hallmark, Big Floral, expensive resturants, and Big Candy. But when I was married, I would go all out. I would spend hours making Coq au Vin, which my wife requested. Made Chocolate Mouse. Roses and other flowers. Cards. Because that is what she wanted. (In return I usually got a hug, a Dollar Store card, and the dishes, but that is another issue entirely). One of the best things about getting divorced was no longer having to put all of that effort in on something I see as a sell out. I am so happy.

That said, I just went out in driving snow on icy roads in a windstorm to get my teenage daughter a pair of Winnie-the-Pooh socks and a card for tomorrow...

I mean yeah it's totally commercialised to fuck. I've had jobs in retail, bars and restaurants and it all kind of makes you jaded to how forced a lot of it is. Plus I'm not a huge fan of the colour pink. I prefer flowers that are still planted too. Huge fan of the big discounts on chocolates from tomorrow though!

But I dunno. Life seems to be getting more and more stressful so if people are able to set a day to get a little mushy then good for them. You're right though, it could be on any day or even all the days

Sorry for my rant, Rosie! I love that people love the day, and those who set aside for something fun. I am just jaded after being a little worn thin by it, maybe.

Ask me again next year...

I want to tell my love how I feel about him everyday (and I do) - I don't need a day set aside for it.

Roses aren't my favorite, but I love daisies. I'm thrilled with pictures of them that end up on the phones lock screen.

My idea of a perfect romantic evening is sitting in front of the fire under a blanket sipping something hot and having snacky snacks.

I'll admit, the idea of Winnie the Pooh socks is intriguing, though! 😁

I love roses. Dark, dark red roses. Basic, maybe, but that is who I am. They even get mentioned in my profile on Lit, heh.

For Valentine's Day, I did not get my wife flowers, I got her a bouquet of socks. She liked fun socks, so I would buy a half dozen pairs of Valentine's Day socks and put them on sticks, then put them in a vase for her when she woke up in the morning.

I think that's perfect! Getting your love something that makes them smile is the best gift!

So a little update for those who have asked.

My chest x-ray came back clear 🎉🥂

And my breathing is so much better too. Still wheezy and still super tired but definitely on the mend. Half term next week too so a chance to hopefully catch up on my sleep and I should be good to go afterwards 🤞
That is really great news Rosie. I am happy for you!!! 😘

Turns out I did have plans for today after all
I've already had the chocolate. The wine will be with supper.

Bring glasses! I've broken most of mine 🤦🏻‍♀️
Why am I picturing you throwing glasses on the ground and shouting "Opa!"?

They can be such impractically fragile things. I broke one a few weeks ago. I'd had it for about ten years without incident. I guess I was a bit distracted while washing it. I had half the sponge inside the glass and the other half outside, washing around the rim, when a big piece of the bowl just snapped off in the hand holding the sponge. Apparently, I was using a bit too much pressure.
