Reading Books For Pleasure

I cannot get ahold of that over here in England yet  And it's not from lack of trying! lol

I'm reading Heart of Fire by Linda Howard for a book club read.

And an e-book called Urban Myth.

I've read some Linda Howard. I've enjoyed what I've read of her writing.

She writes some great suspense books. However, this one is more of a romantic suspense with lots of steamy jungle sex. So, I'm happy ;)

All of her books have some romance in them, usually with a cop or something of the ilk. I do prefer suspense to romance personally though a blend can work.

I finished Harlequin by Laurell K. Hamilton last night. I actually thought it was the best Anita book in a while. There was less sex, more action and more Anita characterization. It was also good to see the power she got from Jean-Claude used for different things than just sex.

I'm very curious what will happen next. I can't believe she was still even fucking Richard in the last few books. Someone hates/dislikes/disapproves/loves me, I'm pretty much done, yanno?

There are a lot of loose ends to tie up in future books. I was a little disappointed that she didn't accidentally fuck Edward. *sigh* I've always wanted that to happen.

Anyway, it was a good book for me!

I have to agree. I was actually having this conversation with someone the other day. It was a perfect combination. Not as gory as the first books, and not as smutty as the most recent. It was a great book. I thought at first that maybe Richard was gonna clean up his act, but evidently THAT wasn't gonna happen. He's such a dipshit.

*nods muchly*

If it wouldn't kill Anita and Jean-Claude, I'd be happy for Richard to die.

Yep, pretty much. I wish something metaphysical would happen, and transplant someone else's personality into his body. Like Rafe's or something. Rafe is cool, sexy, and most importantly DOESN'T HAVE HIS HEAD UP HIS ASS!

I'm watching to see what happens with Haven, though. He's hot. :D

Yes, I'm pretty seriously interested in Haven's story.

Also, I liked how the "submissives" of the paranormal world have now been proven to be invaluable, strong and powerful in their own way.

I'm interested in the "training to top" in BDSM that Anita is supposed to get from Asher. Asher . . . *sigh* Yeah, he does it for me.

Anyway, I wonder how much Laurell K. Hamilton truly understands BDSM. It should come out one way or the other in the next Anita book.

Clearly being Dominant or submissive as a paranormal caste should not always equate with being sexually Dominant or submissive. I'm not at all sure she gets that. The two are or should be very different categories.

And may I say once again, how very much I like Micah? A man who is strong, takes care of his own shit and doesn't whine? One who actually supports and makes things better for his woman? Yay!

Nathaniel is getting to be more interesting. He is asserting himself, saying what he needs. I love that.

Honestly, if I were Anita, I'd have NO problem either tieing him up and doing my best at topping him and/or letting him outsource that. There is NO way, I could say to these men, oh, I'm fucking a half dozen or so of you but I'm not okay with you doing someone else.

I expected that Nathaniel and Edward's boy might get something going on, did you?

I also was glad to see her do a semi-lesbian scene, finally!

Geez that took almost as long as a semi- boy on boy scene.

It really was a much better story than I expected!

The only problem I had was remembering who everyone was at the end. The one who died? I couldn't really remember him and that diluted the effect of his death. A couple of others' in that scene I couldn't place or picture either.

Oh yeah, Asher is sooo freaken hot. I loved that one scene where she nearly dies. That did it for me. :D

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm thrilled at the idea of her putting more bdsm in the story.

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised if they become pretty good friends. I am anxiously watching to see what else goes on with Edwards kid.

One of the biggest pet peeves I had about Harlequin was it ended there! Anita drops out the whole "I'm asking Asher to help teach me Dominant Nathaniel." That is definitely something I want to read about  Asher...*sighs*

He is one of the least liked figures in the books. Never understood why. He's been my fav since the moment he appeared in the series.

I've posted on some book boards where I'd literally get virtually lynched for passing comment about Richard. For some reason he is loved by the fans. I've never understood that either. He's whiny, and a pain in the ass!

There really does need to be more Edward.

Yes, I wanted more too but it gives me something to look forward too and hope she doesn't screw it up too much.

Micah is the best man in her life for her at this time. Why he would be disliked it beyond me. It just works with him. Maybe for some that's not attractive or seems too easy?

Richard, might by some, be considered more moral and upstanding I suppose. Maybe they like men who are trouble, unreliable and too weak to keep them safe? I dunno. Dumb heads!

LOL.

I definately want to read about Anita's training. :nana:

I don't know why people don't like Micah. My biggest issue is that his character gets so little book time. He causes so little trouble that, with the exception of when she meets him and 'Micah', you rarely see anything about him in the books. I definately don't feel like I 'know' him, like I do Nathaniel or Richard.

I agree on wanting to see more on Edward. I was kinda hoping for awhile that she and Edward would get it on, but now I would be very surprised. I'd say that Edward is too much of a friend for that to ever happen.

Once again, though, Laurell Hamilton has got me anxiously waiting for the new one.

My experience is that friends make the absolute best lovers and life mates. It's exciting to have that in your life. I think Anita and Edward could have been great in all those ways. I've never understood Anita's opinion of Edward at all.

Micah is the closest thing she has to a real partner, friend and lover. I wouldn't have created that character because the canvas was already too crowded IMO.
The fact that he is part cat doesn't hurt at all.

If I were writing the books, she'd be with Edward or another necromancer. Things would be very different!

*chuckles*

I think that being friends with your lover/SO is VERY important, but if you have too much in common that's bad. For instance if both me and K had tempers we'd have killed eachother a long time ago. Or if neither of us could budget we'd be looking at another bankruptcy. Sometimes being too much alike is as bad as not being anything alike. In Edward and Anita's case I think they're both too cold blooded about killing, and neither are comfortable with commitment, and both too dominant and and and

I think if anything had happened, they'd have just ended up being fuck buddys.

I have the same feelings, gracie. They are too much alike to meld perfectly as partners.

Do you also read the Merry Gentry series?

Right now I'm reading Ice Storm by Anne Stewart.

It's funny, I don't think I've ever met anyone with whom I had so much in common, I felt like a relationship wouldn't work.

Edward and Anita have one major thing in common. That is that they will do what they have to in order to survive and protect those they care about from the "monsters." I suspect they have a lot that is not in common.

I find a have a great deal in common with other human beings but always a great deal that is not also.

I do know one couple who seem to need a third partner to make things happen. It's like they both expect to be dragged or entertained by someone but they are both basically stay at home, don't have ideas of what to do types. Other than that couple I can't think of any instances I've personally seen with two people that were so much alike it impaired their happiness.

The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezavani was a good book for me. It fits in the historical novel genre as it is set in 1620 in the country now known as Iran. I enjoyed it. I learned from it. However it did hit my emotional buttons which produced some nightmares. That is entirely my own fault though and not a fault of the book itself.

The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster by Bobby Henderson was an amusing little parody treatise. It poked fun at quite a few things such as most organized religion, science, math, evolution, intelligent design and others.

I do rather like the sound of a heaven with a beer fountain and stripper factory. Likewise I do enjoy noodly goodness and Pirates!

The tome goes on a bit too long repeating key points of "evidence" a bit too often just like any religion. It was good.

:D

i finally finished book 3 of the Beauty Series...

Ummm..i actually liked the last half of it...especially the last chapter and the part about Beauty and the woman from the sultan's palace...

i have to admit though that i had a very hard time reconciling what i was reading with the fact that Anne Rice has recently become a Born-again Christian..

FurryFury said:
Born again Christians can be or can have been kinky too, I promise.

Right...and i mean that statement above as no offense to anyone...but most of the ideas/behaviors in that trilogy are not something a Christian would profess, kinky or not.

She wrote those books a loooong time ago though.

But even so, most of the rigidly religious people I've known restricted the crap out of themselves (and others) but sex remained an obsessive priority on their agenda despite it supposedly "only being for procreation and not for fun." In other words they were quite the perverts.

*chuckles*

Also, just because you are a Christian or whatever else, doesn't mean you aren't still human. I always like to say church is for sinners yanno?

I've not read her latest book yet, but I suspect there is sex and other things "the church" would not approve of in it.

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is a book I've been meaning to read for a while. I must say it wasn't what I'd imagined. I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. It was a very interesting and different take on time travel.

I just picked up Christine Feehan's latest Carpathian book. Can't wait to read it.

I'm reading that right now, Rox.

Dark Possession - every book I seem to read lately has BDSM undertones! It's very good so far, Manolito is very dominating in his ideals.
