Reading Books For Pleasure

Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross was a very good historical novel. Now I want to add more of the classics into our curriculum than ever before!

If you don't mind short stories. (I do.)

If you do like romance. (I don't.)

If you like supernatural stuff. (I do! I do!)

If you like humor! (Yes! Yes! Yes!)

If you like sex! (Yum! Yum! Yum!)

And you like it to have D/s overtones. (Frick I so do!)

Then I recommend Dead and Loving It by Mary Janice Davidson.

It's a frothy, yummy confection of a book. I didn't expect it to be so worthwhile for me! Yaaaaaay!

Naughty Fairy Tales from A to Z edited by Alison Tyler. Described as "a hot twist on fairy tales." Several erotic writers took well known fairy tales and turned them into erotic works of art. In this book, Cinderella is a Dominatrix and Zoe White lives with seven whores. These are the cutest erotic stories I've ever read and there's one for each letter of the alphabet.

We should add that to the list on the bdsm book discussion thread.

I'm reading The Darker Side of Pleasure by Eden Bradley. It's an advanced reading copy. The three novellas in the book are BDSM themed. So far, so good. :)

Speaking of immersive experiences, I recently finished the third of a cycle of novels, each of which weighs in at well over 800 pages. More often that not, the books rendered me speechless, with the sheer range of topics they covered -- everything from courtly intrigue to philosophical debates to pirate fights to syphillis jokes.

The books are Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle: Quicksilver, The Confusion, and The System of the World. All three take place in Europe between about 1680 and 1715, and involve just about anything significant that happened at that time: historically, scientifically, philosophically, and economically. Fictional characters anchor the books down, but "real" figures play prominent roles: Isaac Newton, Gottfried Leibniz, Louis XIV, William the Conqueror, et al. (With cameos by John Locke, Peter the Great, Samuel Pepys, and more!)

Absolutely amazing stuff, not for the faint of heart (or wit).

No latent BDSM themes, but you will be introduced to a character nicknamed Half-Cocked Jack Shaftoe, with all the complications that entails. :)

Nice and thick in every way? Sounds yummers! I'm going to have to put in on my list!

Then again, I can't afford to be speechless.

*contemplates*

I'm reading a book my girlfriend loaned me. She said it reminded her of me.

Its called "Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass,Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office"

Do you think she's trying to tell me something

:p Jez

I took it as such.

I'm loving it so far, and I can totally see why she was reminded of me. :D

I just started reading Erotic Submission: The Sensual Joys of Female Submission by Claudia Varrin. She is a professional dominatrix who discovered and is enjoying her submissive side. She talks about deciding if you are a submission and how to figure it out, gives insight on what to look for in a Dom and shares her experiences in the art of being a submissive. You can even get it at amazon:)

I'm reading Heart of Fire by Linda Howard for a book club read.

And an e-book called Urban Myth.
