Reading Books For Pleasure

Cause for Alarm by Erica Spindler...This book is not as good as CopyCat and Last Known Victim but was still okay...

Kate Ryan has it all, a husband that she adores, a business that is thriving, and her art which she loves. The only thing that is missing from her picture perfect life is a baby. When her and her husband, Richard, learn that he is sterile, Kate decides to move on and make the best of their life with no baby in the picture. After all, she believes that it's better knowing that it's not possible than hoping each month that she'll end up pregnant. Then her husband surprises her with their enrollment in the local adoption agency which stuns and makes her happier than she thought she would be. Finally her life will be complete.
Richard Ryan has always gotten whatever he desired in life. When he wanted Kate, he got her. No matter how many times he strayed in college, he always was able to win her back. When he realized that he would lose her if he kept breaking up with her and coming back, he made a commitment to her. He's always loved Kate and he never believed that the reason he wanted her was because his best friend was in love with her too. When he learns that he is sterile, he feels like less than a man and is more than happy to consider adopting. However, that is before his life is taken over by a six pound, drooling, crying bundle of baby. Suddenly he feels cast aside from his own wife and he turns to someone that makes him feel young again.

Julianna Starr fell in love with Richard and Kate when she saw their profile through the adoption agency. When she reads what Richard wrote, she is certain that they are soulmates and will do anything to prove that to him. She knows it's not going to be easy, after all, Richard loves Kate. So she starts stalking Kate. Following her at a distance, Julianna turns herself into a replica of Kate, following her gestures, her walk, her way of dressing, even her makeup. Then she finds a way to instigate herself in to Richard's life. She thinks it's only fair that since she gave Kate her baby, Kate will give Julianna her husband. She didn't count on the manevolent force that would follow her to the ends of the earth to purify her and bring out the very innocence that he was drawn to when he first saw her as a child.

Luke Dallas has loved Kate since their days at Tulane. When he finally thought he had her, Richard came tearing back in the scene and took her away again. He's tried to kid himself all these years that it hasn't effected him, but he knows different. Kate is the only woman that he will ever love and the only woman he can never have. When she comes to him for help with her daughter, Luke doesn't have the heart to turn her away. He's waited for her for ten years and he will wait for her for ten more.

John Powers in stalking Kate, Richard, Julianna, and Luke. All the people that are now apart of his little girl's life will pay. Julianna has been his 'special' girl since she was eleven years old and no one will ever take her away from him. So one by one he starts eliminating the very people that bring out the wicked part of her. He believes that there is still that innocence that touched a part of him that he thought was long dead.

Forbidden Fruit by Erica Spindler..Still not as good as CopyCat and Last Known Victim..Not enough mystery but still a okay book

Only one man can uncover the sins and secrets of three generations of Pierron women. . . but it just might cost him his life.

I finished reading Fortune by Erica Spindler Tuesday night..It was a great book..

Synopsis:

A mother's ultimate sacrifice . . .
A brother's dark obsession . . .

And one woman's desperate fight for survival . . .

Something dark and dangerous had long shadowed Skye Dearborn's life. She had seen the fear of it in her mother's eyes. It was there, locked in her memories of blood spilling across a gleaming floor. In the sound of her own screams. And in the terror she'd felt the night her mother disappeared.

Then fortune smiled on Skye. With help she was able to put the horror behind her and look to the future.

But now that same fortune is leading her into the arms of danger -- and back into the nightmare of her past. For the evil that has haunted her dreams has a human form -- a man obsessed with Skye since her birth. A man who alone knows who Skye Dearborn really is.

And now that he has found her, he will do anything to keep her.

Just finished Killer Takes All by Erica Spindler night before last...The best of her books since CopyCat

Synopsis of book

Stacy Killian was introduced to us in SEE JANE DIE. She was a tough smart dedicated detective until the events in the other book. I really didn't care for SEE JANE DIE but I wouldn't have missed this one for the world. Stacy has moved to New Orleans to attend college, she was burnt out and wanted to change her life. But the cop in her just won't die.

Spencer Malone is a detective on the NOPD. He has just been cleared of a wrongfull theft in his dept. And when he comes back they let him choose where he wants to go to avoid a law-suit. He may have been slow to realize how much he loves being a cop, but now he knows what he has to loose and this affair has made him determined to be the best cop he can be.

They meet when Stacy's next door neighbors are murdered. Stacy can't let it go and if there is any chance she might be able to catch the killer she will use everything she's got. Even putting her life on the line. While Spencer thinks the boyfriend killed them, Stacy is sure it has to do with the role-playing game her friends were into. The White Rabbit is a game about Alice in wonderland, however in this dark version the winner must kill all of the other players.

Stacy meets the game's designer and his family. She is drawn into this weird family and gets caught up in the game which is played in real time. As more bodies appear linking Leo, the game's maker, to the deadly game Shannon finds he needs Stacy's insight. Is Leo the killer or is someone trying to kill him?

The victims and suspects multiply rapidly. This is a fast paced novel with unexpected twists and turns. The killer is not revealed until the end. This is one of Erica Spindler's best.

I am going to look those books up...Especially the Naughty Fairy Tales :D

You are welcome.I am glad that I could answer the question..

Do you trade books with people? I have an aunt that loves to read the same kinds of books as I do so we trade back and forth..

I don't have anyone to trade with at the moment and I get nearly all my books from the library. Around my birthday and Christmas I buy some books due to book certificates!

I used to trade them around a lot.

Now I'm more likely to trade around DVD's. I don't have a lot of them but my buds do. That's one reason why I started putting some of my all time favs on my X'mas list!

Oh and that Naughty tales book is going to be a BDSM pick one of these days. I don't normally go for short stories but the theme was intriguing to me.

I started Jezebel The Untold story of the Bible's Harlot Queen today by Leslie Hazelton. Strangely the author refers to this as non fiction.

WTF???

This isn't exactly reading for pleasure... I'm supposed to be reading A Confederacy of Dunces for school and I'm having such a hard time getting through it. Everyone is saying they love it, everyone I know who's taste in books I trust has told me they thought it was hilarious, but I just don't. Am I crazy? Is this book really that hilarious? I just find the characters to be incredibly irritating. I don't want to read another page...

Anyone else have any opinions on this book? Love it? Hate it? Or is that just me...

I've not read it but honestly, it's all a matter of individual taste.

If I hated it, I'd skim to the end, only because it was a school assignment. Then I'd research it only and maybe get the Pink Monkey notes or something. Life is too short to read stuff you don't enjoy unless it is for school.

Well it's scholarly, opinionated, and utterly not a novel. *grr* I finished it today. By finished, I mean I skimmed it. *sigh*

Note: If you are going to say over and over how wrong others are in how they chose to interpret something it's best if you don't seem like an arrogant person yourself.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but just in case not....

check out www.swaptree.com

You can swap 1:1 for books, movies and video games. Is a great way to trade off books you no longer need for new ones. Ma'am reads like crazy and is liking it a lot. I'm in the middle of house selling and moving so my books are packed.

My favorite books last month were by Christopher Moore who writes irreverent, funny shit that is right up my alley and Jan Karon.

Jan Karon writes wonderfully warm stories that, though they are full of religion do not come off as preachy. The main characters live in a rare state of grace and tolerance that I honestly wish the whole world could feel just once and yes, even maintain.

Just thought I'd share.

Has anyone ever delved into Ian Fleming's James Bond series?

I've just about read everyone now, I think I only have two more to go. They are great! Ian Fleming's point of view is incredibly interesting. The way he describes the world and sums up human nature with these broad generalizations and stereotypes is really, really fascinating. The series is truly a window onto a different, more exciting, more glamorous time.

There are also some pretty bizarre examples of D/s in a lot of Bond's encounters, whether sexual or not. People have been talking about how sexist Ian Fleming is since the books first came out in the 50s, he is also very obviously racist and imperialistic.

Despite his shortcomings, Fleming is the dirty old grandfather I always wished I had.

I'd love to talk about the books if anyone else has read them!

I, too loved her series. I used to live in NC and spent quite a bit of time in Blowing Rock on vacation, the setting for her fictional town. And agree on her themes of grace and tolerance.

Especially now that I live near a border and am seriously troubled by our immigration policies. Talk about needing grace and tolerance....

'nother thread....
