Reading Books For Pleasure

I am a huge fan of Piers Anthony and his "Incarnations" series, lots of fun and very quick reads.
Right now I am into Kushiel's Chosen, since I finished the first one a month or so ago.
Since I live near Powell's city of books, I am always there. I love it so much, nothing better than a glass of tea, and a good book.

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson, well written, stunning imagery, one of my all time favorites.

Currently starting American Soldier by Tommy Franks, a book about Louis the XIV, and a book by Jodi Picoult--I don't remember the title--her books are like Lifetime movies waiting to happen, but good when I'm in the mood. And a biography about Lincoln--but that will have to be put on the back burner for now.

Another good one is Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman--chick novel.

I love all those books too!

:D

La Vida Vampire by Nancy Haddock was a light, amusing read. I'll be reading her next book for sure.

I love to read nearly everything, and have about 50 e-books downloaded at the moment to read. I prefer a "real" book in my hands, but it is expensive so I'm enjoying finding free e-books to read these days. Been reading Rob Graham's books of course and some other writers from another board I go to where I won some books in the mail from them.

I'll edit this later to give the titles of the books I have been reading, including the e-books.

I really enjoyed that one. What did you think of it.

:rose:

You know, I actually enjoyed it better than The Virgin Suicides. I wound up passing it around to a few of the people I work with (that's the closest I'll ever come to belonging to a book club!) so that we could talk about it. Turned into a decent discussion on the way that people are viewed as opposed to actuality.

I actually read it for a book club. LOL!

I didn't read The Virgin Suicides. The title alone turned me off.

I gots lots of books from the library tonight. Now I'm taking them to bed. Where I will strip them down to blurbs! Woo hoo!

:D

You might enjoy, Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey. I found it to be the least angsty, best ending of a lesbian relationship I've read in a novel in some time. It takes a while to get to that relationship though.

Also Spelling Mississippi By Marnie Woodrow is an interesting book with a lesbian relationship in it. Again, it takes a while for them to actually get to the relationship.

I just finished Christine Feehan's new one, and it was okay. The main character is kidnapped, raped, and tortured (very much like some of the scarier bdsm erotica out there - and no not that much detail, but you get the idea), and within a few chapters is fine and having hot sex with the main character. I felt that it was just a bit more unrealistic than even I can go for - and I read mostly fantasy and erotica. I can handle quite a bit of 'unrealistic'.

I'll try this one (Spelling Mississippi By Marnie Woodrow) it peaked my interest.
I may try the erotic stuff if I have to. ;)I don't mind the descriptive stuff. :D Sometimes settle is nice. Kinda like when Rett cares Scarlett off up stairs in Gone with the Wind. You know she got it good. Thank you, I'll be watching your thread.

*wave Furry* - I own a reader now so it has been fun to download a shit ton of books. Now if I could just find time!

Beauty by Sherri Tepper was not what I expected. I really enjoyed parts of it. I liked the overall message. In parts I was thinking, okay already, can we simply get to the point though. LOL.

*cries* my reader is broken.

Book of choice right now:

The Icewind Dale series by RA Salvatore.

My favorite books of all time: The Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth Series. If you want sadistic; read the first one about the Mord Sith.

so all of you that have readers - what's the verdict? Kindle or Sony?

I'm getting ready to do my "repeat a million times until there is no questions as to what I would like for a Christmas gift" routine and all of the people I know seem to be split 50/50.

I am leaning away from the Kindle, but only because I think the ability to instantly purchase a book from wherever I am might be too much....

I have been looking myself & I think I am going to get myself a Kindle for either my birthday or christmas.

I mean, I love the feel of a book in my hands, turning the pages and the weight of a good hardback, but the portability of having my library with me is a deal breaker on not getting one

& i can get a nice case for it too

I finished Diana Gabaldon ~ An echo in the Bone a couple of days ago, and even though I found it a bit slow to start with, it did get better, and picked up speed, so it was hard to put it down at the end. Which was the reason i stayed awake reading the last of it to 4.30 am one night *G*

So now I'm reading Dan Brown ~ The Lost Symbol.
