Reading Books For Pleasure

I finished Diana Gabaldon ~ An echo in the Bone a couple of days ago, and even though I found it a bit slow to start with, it did get better, and picked up speed, so it was hard to put it down at the end. Which was the reason i stayed awake reading the last of it to 4.30 am one night *G*

So now I'm reading Dan Brown ~ The Lost Symbol.

Sounds good!

I need help!

Tell me a book with a title that begins with X that doesn't suck please?!? It's the last book I need to get done this year to meet all of my reading challenges.

Speaking of which would anyone like to do some reading challenges with me in the new year?

I would :)
Cant help you with the X book though.

The Xander Years by Keith R. A. Candido wasn't great at all but it did finish out that challenge. Yay!

Most Buffy books are pretty good, though they are YA. They tend to have the voices of the characters down. This one sort of did.

They tend not to rehash the story lines we already saw on tv. That's why this one really was disappointing. It basically went over old territory. First the Praying Mantis teacher, then the Inca Mummy, and finally the "love" spell Amy was supposed to put on Cordelia for Zander.

You know what I'd REALLY like? A novel that dealt with why Willow was so into Xander and Oz but then suddenly gay. I wish they'd write that.

Xenocide by Orson Scott Card....sequel to Ender's Game and Speaker For the Dead.

I would too, just keep in mind I am occasionally erratic and inarticulate(not to mention being a major bitch).

I spoiled myself and ordered most of my wish list from amazon in the last 2 months (yeah new books) I'm pissed though the new Sookie book is actually several short story's:mad:. They were good but I was all ready for a new installment in the series. I did love "Strange Brew" edited by P.N. Elrod my favorite was a toss up between "Seeing Eye" by Patricia Briggs and "Bacon" by Charlene Harris. Truth is there were no bad stories in this book.
Reg.

So far I am not disappointed in any of the books I ordered.
Here is a partial list with some notes WARNING partial spoilers on

Street Magic
(Black London Novels)By: Caitlin Kittredge, I just couldn’t get in to this one I’m going to try and read it again later
Blue Diablo: A Corine Solomon Novel By: Ann Aguirre, I loved this one and can’t wait for the next one to come out. There is no sex in this one yet but some serious heat.
Blood Engines (Marla Mason, Book 1) By: T.A. Pratt, another one I had a hard time caring what happened to the main character she was just too hard and cold for me to give a rats a** about.
Skinwalker: A Jane Yellowrock Novel By: Faith Hunter. I liked this one, the prequel is in strange brew I liked it just as well if not better.
Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, Book 2) By: Richelle Mead. This has some dark parts that could have been explored more thoroughly without the black and white way it ended up. It bothered me that she was expected to let the ass get away with his actions and she gets to be the one in the wrong because she doesn’t just roll over and give up .
Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, Book 4)] By: Jeaniene Frost
The Sword of the Lady: A Novel of the Change (Change Series) By: S. M. Stirling
Strange Brew By: P. N.Elrod. Loved all of them
Black Magic Woman: A Quincey Morris Supernatural Investigation and Evil Ways (Quincey Morris 2)
By: Justin Gustainis. It was nice to read something outside of the usual formula for urban fantasy.
The Phoenix Transformed: Book Three of the Enduring Flame By: Mercedes Lackey, James Mallory.
Skin Deep (Laura Blackstone, Book 1) By: Mark Del Franco. I’m still reading this one so far it’s not too bad.
Hunter's Oath and Hunter's Death By: Michelle West. Ok I love her work and this was no exception but do they have to kill the great character? Yes I know it made sense plot wise and was necessary but I hate to get attached and then end up sad when it happens. But they were great to read they just drew me in.
Vicious Circle By: Linda Robertson. This one was fun
Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, Book 1) By: Karen Chance. I think I need to get all of the rest of her books this one was good.

I need to find another hobby or something I'm out of control with my reading habit.

I suggest highly that you grab all of those books. She has ones about Cassandra and ones about Mircea's daughter. The first one is Midnight's Daughter and the second one is due to come out soon, I think November. I loved all the books and cant wait for the rest. :)

Umm how about the Xanth Series Xone of Contention by Piers Anthony. I don't know if you have read any of the Xanth series but they are pretty light hearted.

Thanks! I ended up reading a Buffy spin off YA book called The Xander Years.

I do like some Piers Anthony but I've never been able to get into the Xanth Series. Now his Incarnation of Immortality and Blue Adept series were great for me.

GREAT list! I'll be using it to reserve some books next time my stack gets low!

Thanks!

Well I'm trying to get our houses sold so we can move to TX (I want to be warm) I will be thinning out my books so when I get that list together I will post it. I'm sure we can find a way to ship books to a PO box or something, so no one has to give out an address that could lead to unwanted exposure.

Thanks FurryFury I should have said that first. By the way I loved the explanation of your nic, very creative. Mine is just a fair warning, as a plus it seems to keep the random pms down. Completely off topic there oops.

I have been looking up books I read long ago and reacquiring them. Some were so long ago I forgot the title or author and had to research for plot fragments. It's interesting how much I miss those old favorites and how my view of them has changed after rereading the ones I have found. Next I think I will hunt down Jo Clayton and Andre Norton, the old 70s-80s paperbacks. Has anyone else revisited old favorites after a few years?

Thanks I put in the order today. I figure I better buy all the books while I have $ from the buyout. Besides I think I'm worth spoiling.

Oh no, i would cry if i had to thin down my hoard. Well ok I do occasionally take some to the library because where i live it is extra small and most of their books are christian romance. I don't take anything too explicit because I don't want it just to get thrown away but I do take things I might want to read again, at least I know where it is then. =)

As for shipping; the post office is the cheapest way to ship books and you can do it to PO boxes. I could ship one for 2.56 and up to 15 or so paperbacks for about 10.00 depending on the size. They have a box that is flat rated.

Some Girl's Bite by Chloe Neil was much better than I expected. I want more!

:rose:

I read that for my review site a few months back and loved it. I went in thinking "hmmm, another vampire book" and came out thinking it was great. Just read Friday Night Bites too. That is a great read, love all the snark.

I'm reading Exposed by Alex Kava.

I'm reading Chuck Yeager's autobiography, Taltos, by Anne Rice, and I have an audio book in the car. Forgot what it is called. It's about this sadist killer who along with help fakes his death in prison and in return for the help has to help terrorists blow shit up. And he has a long list of people he wants to kill too connected to his case. The terrorist had enough of him and tried to blow him up but failed. So now he is on his own.

I just read Whiskey Sour by J. A. Konrath. I really liked it.
