I know a lot of blacks moved to Texas, some from the Katrina disaster. Me, if I were a Katrina refugee, I would crawl on my bloodied hands and knees and risk heat stroke and starvation if I had to, if it meant me not being stuck living in the South.

Bigots live everywhere. People have fought and died for civil rights and acceptance in the south. Moving would make the sacrifice of those who fought so hard pointless. Generation of families have born, lived and died in the south. No reason to leave with things better then they have ever been.

In our community, the two docs who specialize in abortion don't do PBA. It's one of those issues to get everyone all emotional -- it's not very real. I'm sure you can find me statistics that state otherwise, but I seriously don't trust them.

What's really at stake is giving a fetus rights as a viable entity.

That's very similar to the old British law that would allow a woman to "plead her belly" (use pregnancy to avoid being hung) but enact harsh sentences for a woman who stole a crust of bread to feed her starving child.

Speaking of the South, don't discount the pull of remaining near family and familiar places. We're a mobile society but I would imagine most Americans still live within a hundred miles of their birthplace.
