I'm sure this is been covered someplace, but a search does not bring it up. Does Literotica have rules about using profanity or suggesting violence in a story? For example, if in a story a man has been cuckolded and wants to end the perpetrator's life, is that okay or does that violate a Literotica rule?

I've put plenty of violence in my stories, including murder, and it's never been a problem as far as the site is concerned. But readers have definite ideas about what they want: readers come here for sex, not violence. Insofar as the violence serves the story, it's a fine thing. But if it becomes an end in itself, it will not attract an appreciative readership.

As for profanity... I mean, have you not read any of the fucked-up stories here? They're RIFE with motherfucking, dicklicking, scrotum-scratching profanity. There are no goddamn pussy-ass rules that I'm aware of in that regard.

Violence in stories is... yeah, if it serves the story, fine. But some writers try to write sex-and-action, and the action is often... not super convincing. And if I read another story that's pitched as one thing but turns out to be a Jack Reacher knockoff, I'll swear quietly to myself.

Profanity can help define a character as can violence and I've written plenty of both in my stories. I think the only way you'd get a rejection for use of profanity is if it crossed into the area of current politics like profanity directed at some group with the intention of causing subsequent physical harm to that group. Violence probably won't cause a rejection unless the violence is coupled with or results in some form of sexual gratification.

There is a level of violence that has no real sexual elements to it that can become violence porn, and that has a possibility of getting rejected. Far more likely to get the kibosh in categories that are centered on a kink like Incest, Anal, Group Sex, etc. than in genre categories like Sci-Fi&Fantasy, Novels & Novellas, Non-Human, etc.

Non-Erotic would be another one I'd expect to have a higher tolerance level, because that's where action stories should live.

Go read BTB LW stories, nothing is rejected there.

Do you find that somehow erotic or entertaining?
No. I don't find violence at all erotic or actually entertaining. I think that it may be understandable, if not justified, in certain limited sets of circumstances, such as in order to protect someone or something that you value/love greatly.

Surely if an author clearly tags the content of the story, including “violence”, “snuff”, etc. where appropriate, the reader has been sufficiently forewarned?
