2025 Virtual Literotica Convention Story Idea

At the moment my thoughts are bouncing between The White Lotus and Rocco Live In Prague...

After long and hard thought, I've decided this isn't for me. It comes too close to roleplay for me to be comfortable with it.

How many Dom's are you going to need to get all the N/C into the correct room?

Are you going to need the BDSM crowd to herd people around the hotel?

I am concerned that the poetry crowd are going to be happy sitting in a corner somewhere? But will they get involved.

I just think Laurel is going to have a hard time keeping everyone happy?

Plus the exhibition area is going to have a double entendre? People are going to be turning up with their stands and books and get an eyeful?

Slightly concerned about the voyuers hiding in various places.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone does. I will be in the bar.

Was discussion this idea with the wife over dinner, she said "So someone can take one of your characters and use them elsewhere?" Of course I replied, yep. She looked at me, then a knowing smirk appeared on her face.

"Don't forget, the first two pieces you penned are about what we eally did get up to, and more specifically, what you let me get away with!" Now that would be weird to read her crop up in someone else's work!

Feel free to feel free, but a bit of a warning here.

If this should turn into people writing about other forum members-even in flattering and sexy ways-then get ready for some hissy fits and drama. I was once part of a forum comprised of around 15 or so litsters who decided to start writing stories about each other. Turned into Melrose place complete with jealous spouses finding out, people publicly talking about making their story 'real' as in let's hook up, and any high school level thing you can think of.

PSA made, have at it.

I did have a notation in the original post. I just added the mention of authors, too. Here's what it said:

"These characters are the hard work of an actual human being. Characters may seem to take on a life of their own, but there’s a real person in there. Try to be cognizant of that fact. And please get permission to use a character (or an author). It only takes a few seconds to ask."

And I agree with this. I may have rules and guidelines, but I can't make anyone follow them.

It sounds like this includes wiring stories about other's characters (as well as about writers). Using other writer's characters is a form of fan fiction. There's a few secret/'not in the formal rules' rules about doing fanfiction of Lit authors works.

Requiring permission is one of them (which you've stated) but it's worth speaking to Laurel first to ensure what other rules she would apply here to ensure everyone is aware prior to starting.

I have started a conversation about this with Laurel. But thank you for pointing this out. I appreciate any assistance with any of this. Thank you!

Honestly it sounds like a fun idea which could encourage participants to read and support others works and to interact etc. It would just take care to ensure it doesn't have any pitfalls. Good luck with it.

Two things.

One: kudos to you for your initiative and contagious enthusiasm.

Two: people are trying to gently nudge you toward the conclusion that including other authors (the authors themselves) is a terrible idea that will end badly, but it’s not working. You’re not listening. So I’ll be the one to say more directly, “including other authors is a terrible idea that will end badly.”

bold, highlighted, italicized, and underlined text is your friend. Use it.

And see item one. Thanks for your efforts. Just try to see number two too.

I have been leaning towards this. Even though I know that I could include authors in a fun and harmless way and I've outlined how to ask permission and that everyone should treat everyone else with respect, I'm not so sure that everyone would do that. So I will make that change.

I will if/when I get the okay to make an official announcement.

Hi StillStunned - just noting here that the discussion since your post is veering towards not including authors as participants, in case that's helpful for you.

The 2025 word count idea concerning new beginnings with the new year was interesting. This, not so much. Pass.

This place is a sort of Snowflake Country, and as other people have already mentioned, you are likely to get all sorts of reactions from people whose names you choose to use, even if they decide to give permission. Some will likely complain about the way they were being portrayed.
That being said, feel free to use my name/character in any way you like. You can portray me as a bastard, cheater, misogynist, degenerate... or you can portray me as a sexual Chuck Norris. I really don't care, and I find it absurd that so many people seem to care about how their fake online names are being portrayed in a humorous Literotica story.
Have at it. ;)

So... anything back from Laurel? I've got a couple of potential crackers to have a go at.

Yes, this is a good idea

Not yet, but it's only been a week. I'm sure that they are busy with so many other things. And if we don't hear back, I'm just going to write one anyway. Just for fun.

Good onya. We don't need no official rubber stamp...!

Any news from HQ?
No. It's been about 10 days. I don't know how long these things usually take for a response. Either way, I'm going to do it. It's just that an official challenge would get the stories publicized to more people. I've actually already had writers contact me privately about this, so it seems like I'm not the only one interested!!

Oh, this seems new and fun. Need to think about it!
And please get permission to use a character (or an author).
If you need a character in a suit that blends with the background and does pretty much nothing of interest except for ending up in awkward places - feel free to use me, I’m 100% fine with it.
