Tesla was incensed by the words of Bigfoot as he spoke to de Blythe. He shook his product-laden head and furiously countered, "Listen, OVERGROWN APE, what happens to the incubator of MY child IS my business much more than yours. Don't interfere. I don't care what Gramps said, I've got a baby in that girl and I aim to protect her."
Helen scoffed, "Nikola, she's MY daughter, and that's my family in there as well as yours. Don't you think I want them both safe? Of course I intend to do all I can to save Ashley. But, this serum..." She frowned, her lower lip trembling slightly as she whispered, "No, Niko..."
Their eyes met as the shock of the term of endearment hit him and he looked into her face for confirmation he'd heard her correctly since she hadn't called him that in over a hundred years and never with an audience to overhear.
She fretted her lip long enough for her dimples to show before continuing, "...not with the source blood. There's got to be another way." She reached out a hand and patted his shoulder gently, "We'll find another way."
The extra touch had been nice but he also felt played. She calculated every move. All the men in her life, mere marionettes in her play. The notion that he himself was just one more of her puppets sickened Nikola almost as much as her father's similar jibe about his behavior toward de Blythe did. He seethed quietly and then sighed, removing Helen's hand from his shoulder gently, looking pointedly at young William as he kissed her palm before letting go of it. "Helen, if you can come up with an idea that is even half as brilliant as that maniac's I'm all ears. I don't want to cause harm to anyone. I just want...well, I want my offspring...OUR family to be safe and secure."
Helen felt Will's posture stiffen as he watched the interaction between her and Tesla. She hated that they were so jealous of one another. She did love them both, each in their own unique way. Although, she'd be hard pressed if she would ever admit that to Tesla anywhere but on a death bed...
Helen pulled Will gently away from Tesla, just one extra step back for security's sake and nodded Tesla's way. "Thank you." she said softly.
"...Niko..." Tesla whispered, enjoying seeing the slight blush appear on Helen's cheeks, disappearing much too quickly but he'd seen it even if no one else knew her well enough to have seen it as well. He couldn't help but smirk.
But, soon, Ashley stirred again and they were back to the serious work at hand.
