*'Sanctuary' for Us *

Will
He handed back the letter and opened the door ushering her out. Together they walked along and first headed to where Henry's set up was.

Henry
He woke up and headed to his area and found Will and Lyda there.
"OH hey guys, what's shakin? Will. Lyda what can I do you for? Need some research done?

Will
"No just needed to get a updated data pad. Got a usb update for this?" He motioned to his out of date and out of sync with the network.

Lyda

She wanted to see if Henry knew why her mother was back on the surface but said nothing for now waiting for them to talk. She was open and willing to talk before but after the regression even though she was fine she was now a little more quiet.

After their meal together Helen and Lucy walked around each of the buildings of the new Sanctuary City led by Bigfoot and a winged woman named Petra who had apparently been the main housemaid from the time of the initial building process which began a few decades years prior. Once Helen felt more familiar with her surroundings she returned to the main house to her new office and Lucy happily went off to the playroom she had finally found with Helen's help. Now, she was eager to test out all of the new toy there waiting for her. Since there were no other kids living or staying in the main house at the moment it was all for her. Having been raised in a prison she'd never really had the luxury of real toys before so this was quite a treat for Lucy. Helen left her to it and got down to the business of running the Sanctuary Network from a new location. She got Henry on the net-chat connection and they each talked via this channel from their respective offices as they collaborated their efforts in organizing the new, very advanced system.

Nikola Tesla snickered at Henry then walked away, the baby needed feeding and changing. He found her a nursery and claimed it for little Nikole. Finding a fresh package of newborn Pampers he took care of the diaper change first. She was wailing by the time he had her dressed, ''Starving little mite.'' he teased as he paged Biggie, ''My Sasquatch buddy, where can a man find some stage one baby formula around here? Or should I be sending you out to a supermarket to stock up?'' he asked.

Biggie growled and answered gruffly, ''First of all, I'm not YOUR gofer BUT since the baby needs it and I like her a hell of a lot more than I like you, I'll fix her a bottle. There is a stock-room and in it are all kinds of provisions including powdered baby formula. I'll email you a map.''

''Thanks.'' said Nikola, hanging up without a goodbye, settling with his daughter in a comfortable rocking chair, trying to placate the demanding infant with her pacifier for a few minutes while they waited for her milk. He watched the scenery out the window, a lovely view of the waterfalls and main gate which he'd both broken and repaired upon their entry, learning a great deal about Praxian technology in the process. Praxis, indeed he'd need to learn a lot more about this advanced civilization Gregory Magnus seemed to have ill-fatedly stumbled upon. He'd have to pump the young daughter, Lucy for some information when possible. He didn't anticipate a four year old had much technological knowledge but perhaps he could gain some insight based on her limited vocabulary and childish descriptions of her old life below.

(OOC: Going on holiday for a few weeks, folks. I loan out Helen Magnus to my sister for necessary posts. Tesla can be loaned to Archangel when necessary. The others are all NPC's anyway so enjoy and I'll try to come on when I can. Meanwhile, I hope it's a productive 3 weeks here. :) Enjoy your summer!)

Being lost in the etheric universe observing but unable to physically intervene was a time in which the discarnate being can either progress or fall even deeper into darkness and plots of revenge. Aware that a being some might call a demon was about to manifest itself the lost one felt even more urgency to regain a body. Particularly one that could not die.

Observing de Blythe merging Mel and Ashley together provided the perfect opportunity and as soon as the clone was left to its own devices the entity began the spiritual adjustment which would stop the cycle of death and revival. Entering the soma she gradually brought it back to life and within moments what was Ashley Magnus opened her eyes and stood.

Looking out of the window she thought to herself “No need for blood, no fear of death, this is perfect. Once I ally with the Demon we’ll be running this place within three weeks”. By that she meant the whole planet.

Melaven was back. WITH A VENGEANCE!

Naomi

She had gotten the dresses from Lyda's childhood smiling staring at the purple dress and remembering doing what she could to get a picture of his granddaughter to Gregory with her wearing that dress. It had simply shown up and Naomi had always suspected that Gregory had it sent to her or one of the others but she never knew for sure.

She had them taken to Lucy's room with a note that whenever she wanted to feel free to ask and that she would fix the little one chocolate chip cookies or hot chocolate or her special recipe Peanut butter pinwheels.

Roger de Blythe

Many years had gone by since de Blythe had been turned and now despite being a Vampire and struggling with the shaft of humanity that continued to haunt him he really was full of good intentions. The work he wanted to pursue with Tesla was for the benefit of humanity as well as the Vampire Race. He never foresaw the problems associated with giving Ashley Magnus immortality. He never realised he would have condemned her to a continuous death which in itself would be a never ending hell.

Only Helen Magnus could help him now and he feared he had destroyed any chance of working with her. She would never trust him again and he understood why. He had destroyed any right he had to be trusted by her. Maybe, just maybe he could convince her to help him.

As he turned he heard a noise, like a crash coming from the area where he had left the physical shell that once held Ashley. Looking at Mel he knew he had to get her back to the laboratory as soon as he could before her essence and Ashley’s essence merged completely. The earth continued to shake as yet another after tremor struck and the urgency became apparent. Using reserve battery power and the positively charged cells that enabled him to create yet another clone de Blythe was able to separate Mel from Ashley although he couldn’t tell which personality was in which clone. But that didn’t matter because both Mel and Ashley were basically good people and in time their family and friends would realise who was who.

Melaven

Finally free from the continuous cycle of death Melaven now clothed again in Ashley’s body broke free from the confines of the restraints that held her back. Her mind sprang back to her life in Tudor England and how following being turned by de Blythe she had been staked and would have remained dust but for that freak accident which had brought her back to life. She reviewed how she had longed to be reunited with her lover but he had sided with Magnus against her again threatening her very existence. But now she had helped herself to immortality she had nothing to fear. From this moment forward she was going to dedicate her eternity to destroying everything that meant something to de Blythe.

Her first objective was to get access to the shelter where Helen and the baby were seeking refuge. Her next task was to be sweetness and light to convince everyone she was Ashley before the genuine article showed up.

This was going to be fun!

Isis grabbed Mel looking to De Blythe with a snarl.

Fix whatever problem you have created now I will get Nikola to fix this with a hollow one as it should have been before.

She flipped Mel up into a fireman's carry and started out of the area. She did not like any of this and having heard Worth's insane ramblings about traveling back in time. It was tugging now at her mind. Maybe a deal with Worth would be a possible path.

Fix this... whatever it is now!

(OOC I’m sorry I haven’t posted much – I’m with my Nan in Wales and she really is unwell. I’ll catch up soon. Meanwhile please move on any of my characters if you have to.)

Roger de Blythe

“How the hell can I fix it?” de Blythe answered in total frustration “It was never ever meant to be like this. You might not believe me but this was meant to save the human race, not destroy it. My aim was that the genius of Helen Magnus should not be lost at her death. It should have worked, it does work but I need to get back into the lab as soon as possible or all could be lost.”

He turned to see what he thought was Ashley stride into the room and then his jaw dropped “O MY GOD!” He looked with a mixture of shock and horror before calling to Isis “Take Mel to a place of safety, she’s innocent in all this”.

Isis

Snarling she glared combat over babysitting another De Blythe fiasco that housed little cub. Her decision made for her when Naomi walked over and guiding Isis through the hospital to the entrance of the underground Sanctuary. Isis did not like taking even this creation of De Blythes there but Naomi nodded that it would be alright. She knew better than even Henry the security that Gregory had on this place. There were medical people there to greet them when the little subway stopped and they quickly took Mel and ran tot he medical wing summoning Declan instead of Helen wanting to keep the calm and peace of this place for now. Before Isis could turn to go back Naomi told her to go and eat... or else. Something in Naomi's tone Isis noted the perking up of some of the others wandering around and nodded sensing this was more medical security in case the old woman deemed them needed.

Lucy stood just outside of the playroom's door and screamed at the top of her lungs, "Heeeeelp! Heeeelp! Patricia is upset! She says my niece is in danger!!! Heeeeeeeelp!"

Adam Worth ((Possessed))

~That kid... that infernal kid... first Patricia "has" to be around her then she still especially now complains some about those dangerous felines... At least John and Adam are here. Old victims to once more manipulate and torture the others with. Have to be careful though... Helen will not accept the changes in her mother he knew that... so to prevent any more of that it was time to drive the felines from this place... or kill them. Worth was already hated by these people but perhaps not as much as the vampire De Blythe... but if Worth believes beyond any of their sensing that he is acting under De Blythes orders... Yes... that just might work... But for now shut the kid up and off to find the younger feline... the one who's mind is truly the most strained.~

Adam walked over to the girl and knelt down...

Which niece would that be lass... Helen's dear daughter or Isis young offspring? I will need to know which one you are talking about to know who to get to help me help them?

Smiling that strangely calm sane smile even though he could feel something just out of sight just under the surface... driving him to want to hunt.

Lucy stared into the strange man's green eyes and saw something there, something which frightened her as much as the things Patricia shouted to her from the other dimension. She took a step away from him, closer to the staircase, and shook her head, "I don't know. She's crying and shouting at me... PLEASE! We have to save my niece, does it matter which one? If one is in danger it's not long before the other is as well! Where's Helen? She'll understand."

Turning to run down the stairs and look for Helen in her office, she didn't make it far before a pair of strong arms plucked her up and tossed her carelessly over a firm shoulder. Lucy would have been screaming had something not been shoved into her mouth to muffle the sound.

She was kicking and fighting, though. She hoped she'd flail enough for him to drop her. It was forever before he put her down again and she was proud to see he looked exhausted, but also kind of mad...With all her might she kicked his left shin with with the hard bottoms of her shiny Mary-Janes and was pleased to hear him hopping about the room, cussing and slamming his fist against the table he turned and braced himself on. Lucy tried to get a look around to see what room this was but he was coming closer, looking furious now.

A noise from the hall caught his attention and he moved away from her just long enough that Lucy was able to scramble up to her feet and jimmy the nearest window open. He called out to her but she never turned to look at how close he was before she hopped out onto the ledge. Third floor...hmm, not the best chances of surviving a jump without, at the very least, serious injuries, death possible. ''Patricia, what should I do?'' she whispered to the wind.

Kate

Hearing the kid screaming she tracked her down through the security camera uplink to the datapads and headed her way. Getting to Lucy she stood in the doorway.

Whats wrong kiddo? and lets get down from there okay... Its alright... guess I am kinda security around here for now so talk to me.

As always Kate had one of the stunners on her just in case as she waited for the kid to calm and talk to her. She smiled calmly as she slowly moved closer to the child.

Adam Worth

Seeing Kate he ducked into another room and waited once he saw her walk into the room with the child he went on about his current hunt... looking for Lyda. The young feline was more apt to react aggressively to sensing his presence so he would have to have her removed or eliminated. Worth was not sure why he wanted to find Lyda it was like there was a division in his mind but if it must be done it must be done.

~Patricia... He called to her from within Worth. I have matters to tend to but if you promise to stay away from those felines We will go flying when I am done... you have to stay far away from them though. They are not blood family are they... Gregory brought a monster into your home for you to raise didn't he.

He knew she would simply agree with him with the chance of flying on the table... so innocent to what that really meant. It was a major portion of the control over her. She still fought him on the felines at times but then he simply refused to fly with her. His mortal minion who he had made sure was in possession of the little destroyer born feline had managed to be scared of Gregory Magnus and his daughter so long ago when this Isis was a child and then to bring her to Patricia and their family open their arms to this feline was not a part of his long terms plans for any of them. Centuries of planning and plotting nearly ruined a mothers "Love". Gregory had however helped him some with gaining Patricia's trust when he kept Isis away from Patricia when she was so near death... He knew why Gregory did it but that pain was his way to Patricia. He could reveal the truth of what Isis was and poison that broken hearted mind against Gregory for not telling her to begin with. He knew she never really would let go of them but humored him all due to flying... Stupid humans~

Helen Magnus was alerted to the chaios in the labs and cursed de Blythe once more as she rushed to Ashley and Lyda's aid. "What have you done, Roger?!" she exclaimed in horror, seeing, once more, multiple forms of Ashley, none seeming truly to be the daughter she knew. Her phone rang in her pocket and she ignored it at the moment.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Lucy held onto Kate tightly as the woman carried her away from the ledge. She was trembling with fear and whispered into Kate's ear, "Patricia's never wept so much as she has the past few hours. I don't know what to do."

Kate just hugged the kid and carried her.

How about we go get some ice cream and you can tell me more about Patricia... or if Patricia wants we can find the deathspeaker an Patricia can tell us both what's wrong?

Kate had dealt with some strange stuff since starting working for Magnus but this new Sanctuary was going to take some getting use to.

~~~~~~~~
Lyda had slipped away from Henry and Will and had been exploring more. Something pulling at her senses guiding her... a prey drive like she had never felt before shifting unconsciously as she walked her eyes seeming to swirl witwmuh dead balcony and golden shine of color.
~~~~~~

Naomi guided Isis and the one she carried to the lab and tried to keep the feline calmas Isis explained to Helen what she saw and what Details Blythe did. Handing over Mel to Helen Isis snarled and turned to go back only to find her path blocked with Naomi and a hollow one in case it was needed to give Ashley a true body of her own.

Naomi smiled as she said. Pure body hollow one will only allow one spirit in.

Helen snarled as ferociously as her adopted sister ever had as she stared into a face, so like Ashley but definitely Melaven was in there glaring back at her through those eyes. "Bloody hell, don't you ever learn? You need to stay dead, Melaven. You're too dangerous for me to let you stick around. I don't like this any more than you do but you are not going to be allowed a chance this time. Stop coming back!"

Isis

She tried to explain what she knew of this being some calm good Mel not Melevan and all that rubbish De Blythe wanted to spout and that the body Ashley had been in now had the real Melevan in it this was little more than a carrying case to get Ashley to her mother.

Naomi brought the Hollow one to Helen and Isis.

We can place Ashley in this Hollow one just created by a source housed here then an end must be put to this monster and his creations. There is no other way. Things are beginning to unfold that... will require all of our focus and souls... I... You two tend to this I... I must find Lyda... NOW. With that the old woman was running as fast as her ancient legs would carry her. Grabbing a couple of beings by the arms as she ran past them.

She called Big Guy as she past him... Find the one they call Worth... Quickly!

He grunted stating that he had locked him away personally but he would go check on him.

Kate

Kate headed to the Kitchen with Lucy to get some ice cream. So tell me more about Patricia and why is she crying?

Adam Worth Posessed

He knew many paths in the underworld from Praxis to old Cabal lairs and those that led here that were supposedly sealed. He sat crouched watching the young feline woman Lyda. Conflicting images in his mind his time with Dr Abbyn while Lyda was a child and the "Monster" that the demon saw her as that was a threat to its continued manipulations of these people.

Lyda was sealed within what looked like a chunk of Amber with only her head and feet not contained but there was a creature attached to the back of her neck preventing talking or anything like that it was all the demon had access to for now to deal with this threat. He knew that Lyda when the creature rested and she regained some control would see both Worth and its true form. Her eyes revealed she was for now neither feline nor human but Destroyer to kill her in that form would prevent that Destroyer energy to be reborn in another.

Greetings Cub... We can't let you stop us... you are not as overwhelmed by the De Blythe distraction... you are dangerous to us...

Its alright child... Worth held a moment of sanity and his own mind... Everything will be as it should be... I promise...

Yes He fell to us long ago... You can thank you "family" for that... Just as others have fallen to us due to your "family" and then there is your true people... they would be enraged to know they did not kill you in womb cub.

Lyda snarled as best she could as she stared at this being within Worth not seeing Worth at all the Destroyer knew its target. It also felt someone else nearby but could not make out who it was as the spirit that was nearby was not a threat nor possessed of the evil before her and clearly did not want the demon to know it was there.

Lucy was still shaking from fright even as Kate set her down on the counter before her, little legs dangling there, careful not to kick her rescuer as she rummaged through the drawer beside Lucy's left knee for two spoons. They shared the same ice cream tub, Kate keeping the toddler from falling with her steadfastness and the tub of ice cream held between them. Lucy looked into Kate's face intently as the young woman dried her tears from her cheeks and she tried to think of how to explain the situation. "Patricia won't stop screaming about danger. Someone is in there, out there...someone is there with her sometimes, someone who seems to not like outsiders. I know it doesn't like me...It's not with her right now and that should be a good thing but it's not...I think, "

She took a breath and a mouthful of ice cream, wishing she weren't too freaked out to really enjoy the taste of the creamy treat right now, "...I think it's outside now. With us, the living. That can't be good. It's not safe. If Patricia is this scared it must be a bad thing, that thing, out here with all of us. She said her granddaughter's in trouble. I'm not sure which one. I don't think it matters, does it? Somebody needs to keep them from harm, both of them, right?" Lucy took another spoonful of ice cream but then stopped, waiting for this information to sink in, she watched Kate's eyes as she saw the calm demeanor change and worry take hold. Yes, she understood what Lucy meant now.

Helen held the personality-less drone of a human form out in front of her, unsure how to set about placing anyone anywhere and still feeling in her gut this business of replacing spirits into shells of human forms was not right on so many levels. Still, it was a science and she was a scientist. She took out de Blythe's notebook, the one he seemed to always keep with him, and quickly skimmed through his notes trying to learn quickly the 'Cliff's-Notes' version of how to do what he did so she could handle this situation with out screwing it up even worse than it already was, and without losing her Ashley in the process. All the while she felt her blood running cold and a definite sensation she might throw up if she took too long to think about what she was dabbling with here.

Kate

She nodded worried.

Ashley was in the hospital but... Isis was going to get her... Will was working with Lyda making sure she was alright after the claustrophobia regression...

Kate radioed Will only to find out she had wandered away while he and Henry were talking. You two find her and see if Isis is back yet with Ashley.

Then a gut instinct feeling hit as she tensed. Have someone find or check on Worth and De Blythe.

Kate smiled to Lucy hoping to calm her then raising a brow.

Patricia I guess if you can answer through Lucy but any help finding the Isis would be great since she doesn't like constantly carrying one of the radio communications...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isis looked to Helen.
The hollow one needs a drop or two of Ashley's blood to know the spirit this hollow one will then only be able to accept Ashley's spirit.
A feral snarl then as she looked to Mel.
You two are separate correct? If out can release her then on Helen's command you will do so.... My option is to take you to point of death to free her... aid us.
OOC My boy friend returns from Afghanistan tomorrow for 10 nights RnR. I might be a little pre occupied. So move on my characters if you need to.
de Blythe was struggling to come to terms with what he had done, what he had unleashed on a hapless world, on the very people he wanted to support in his mission to transform humanity and equip them with human wisdom, vampire strength and immortality. Instead he had given a perverse immortality which meant dying humans would endure eternal death throes while the vampire race, the good and the evil would live for ever.
Throughout the time he had known Helen Magnus he had an almost teenage crush on her and wanted nothing more than to get her into his bed and make love to her. He knew he could always rape her or give her a drug that would weaken her resistance or even hypnotise her but that would achieve nothing. He sought above all to seduce her, lead her to fall in love with him and then to consummate their relationship between the sheets. Now he knew he had not only blown any chance of achieving that, he had also brought an immortal Melaven into their world. A creature that could survive without blood but would drink it for the sheer power it gave her.
Looking above he saw broken cables with flashes of electricity cascading down accompanied with that ‘fair ground’ smell of dodgem rides and candy floss. If he could somehow put those volts through Melaven’s body he knew it would not kill her but it would at least render her unconscious for about an hour while her immortal cells regrouped to repair any damage done.
In a nearby glass case now broken was a Cricket Bat once used by the legendary Ian Botham one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Grabbing the bat he used it to pull some of the cable down and held it just above his head. As Melaven entered the wrecked passage de Blythe allowed the cable to fall on her head instantly electrocuting her. As Melaven crumpled to the floor unconscious de Blythe called out for Isis using telepathy. In his thoughts he communicated what he had done and called upon his enemy to make common cause and ensure that as soon as Melaven regained consciousness she would be electrocuted again.
Without waiting for Isis to arrive de Blythe went back into the old wrecked sanctuary looking for something he knew was there.
+=+=+=+
Meanwhile back in the shelter Mel agreed to allow Magnus to take some of her blood and atomise it to get the substance that belonged to Ashley. Once it was reconstituted it was injected into the hollow soma to allow a link to take place. It was obvious it was going to be a difficult operation but Iris assisted by holding the empty being still. The time came for the transfer to take place and as it did there was a feeling of both hot and cold as both the unused hollow being and Mel lapsed into unconsciousness. It could take up to a fortnight for the transformation to be complete and both bodies would need to be kept warm.
+=+=+=+
Deep in the cellars of the old building Roger de Blythe found the old prototype of the machine Worth constructed to try to travel in time. Using his enormous strength he was able to bring it up to ground level and brought it to the place where Melaven was still unconscious. Looking at Isis he said “I hope she wasn’t too much trouble.” As he spoke he removed the lead sheet that prevented the isotope from making connection. As the engine began to fire up he said “I don’t know if this will work but if it does I can send Melaven into another time, universe or dimension. Whatever happens I will get her out of your fur and it’s possible you will never see her again.” As he pulled the sleeping monster onto the saddle his arm accidently caught the lever and the machine started to hum. With a flash of blinding light it vanished into the ethers taking Melaven and de Blythe with it.
Isis
Snarling she left everything with her sister and took off hearing yet another call for help from the vampire and knowing what was there with him and it could mean a fight she grinned a little and found De Blythe. Picking up the unconscious body and dealing with the jolts she wrapped the live wires around the body knowing that this is Melevan and not Ashley she did however let her mind go back to her niece and sigh muttering... Little Cub till De Blythe showed back up with the device and she snarled smelling Worth as well from the device.
Watching them both vanish she snarled with a grin and headed back to check on everyone and make sure that Worth was still in lock up. She returned first to inform Helen about the vanishing somewhere in time universe or dimension of De Blythe and Melevan with the aid if Worth's time machine. She watched the Hollow one and Mel and staring at Mel she quickly moved to go see if Worth was still imprisoned.
On her way down to lock up she ran across Big Guy who was glad to find her telling her that Imogean was still there but she had no idea where her father was. A roar ripped from Isis chest as she nodded to him with a cold smile.
Looks like we hunt now old friend... If Henry Will or the others wish to join they can... no matter this time... we find... unless Helen says otherwise... we kill.
Declan
Declan walked up in time to hear the roar and the talk of killing Worth and spoke up.
I will help you two find him... Naomi can't find Lyda and she did say that Worth was involved with Dr Abbyns when Lyda was little. Lets hunt... after I grab some weapons.
Lyda
Her eyes open shimmering gold and dead black she could see the demon and what seemed more ghost than real was Worth sitting within him... She snarled feeling both the power of her birthright and the draining weakness of the creature attached to her. She could not move which did little to stop her from trying. Determination and a clear target before her she tried her best to struggle against her prison and the creature feeding from her.
Adam Worth Possessed
He seems unable to want to kill you... perhaps I should get the one you humans called Jack the Ripper... Hmmm. Never could get the human to kill Isis... not even when they were on warring sides and he found her half dead in the snow and ice... but you... he barely knows you... perhaps he will be more obedient.
Worth regained a part of his mind and spoke as if his thoughts were trying to understand the demons thoughts
Johnny may want to be believed a killer but never family or useful friends... Not Johnny Boy. He and your Dad were like brothers...
Big Guy heard what had happened with de Blythe and Melaven as he continued to make himself available. Shaking his head he thought out loud 'I really believe he meant well and, maybe foolishly, I trusted him". Thinking of Isis he continued to verbalise his thoughts 'I can never forget he saved Isis, without him she would be dead or lame'.
Taking a deep breath his thoughts turned to Worth, the one he considered to be the real enemy.
Naomi
She was busy hurrying around looking for Lyda with the help of various others like Declan. She found Kate and Lucy and smiled to the child...
There is a lovely purple dress in your room for you now child... It was Lyda's when she was about your age... Have either of you seen young Lyda? We can not seem to find her...
The old woman masked well her concern in front of the child but with Kate on high alert and concern already she saw through the old woman's expression.
We will keep an eye out for...
With that Declan's voice came over the personal comm signals.
Warning... Worth is Not in confinement... I repeat Worth is not in confinement. Imogean does not know where her father is just that one minute he was there the next he was not and the smell of something burning a long way away... that level of faint at least she says.
SHIT! Kate caught herself looking to Lucy... you should never say that... Naomi can you watch her and make heads or tails out of whatever information that Patricia chooses to tell her next and let us know. Here is a radio I will grab another on my way to go hunting Worth.
She looked to Lucy hoping she could help keep her calm and thing she was helping so that she would not be scared.
If you two see the short arrogant little man Adam Worth or if Patricia can give you a hint clue directions... radio me or Mr Declan okay Thanks kiddo.
With that Kate took off pulling a stunner from the belt on her jeans and began the hunt radioing Henry to get Security camera's scanning for him or any of his little inviso friends who might be trying to hide him.
Helen had found first the lifeless body of Imogen Worth, then the pale, bleeding form of her friend Iris in the corridor near to the facility where former residents of the SHU were now held. The secure doors had been unlocked. She saw that inside some of the ''beasts'' were free from their confinement. ''Dear Lord, bloody fucking hell...'' taking out her gun and unlocking the safety she also hit the alarm. All outer portals were now closed. Everyone would be on lock down until the situation was sorted. She announced through her staff intercom, ''Civilian human casualties on the -2nd floor of the lower level in 'Secure Housing'. I need a medical team and an armed group to meet me here NOW.''
At first Magnus thought it was Worth killing the innocents but as she gingerly opened the door to the 'Secure Housing' unit someone appeared behind her, binding her wrists tightly in a cold, hard, grip of pain. She gasped, looking up to see a face she'd once loved, then hated, then learned to like again...now twisted in the same sick grin she'd tried to tear from his face so long ago...''John?'' she asked breathlessly, ''...what are you doing?''
''Making up for lost time, my love.'' was the musically lovely voice's chilling reply as he held up an imposing, bloodied, hunting knife to gleam in the emergency lights.
''No...no, John, something's not right here. You need help. Just like before, you...''
''SHUT UP!'' he hollered, backhanding Helen so hard she felt her head whip back and the metallic taste of blood singe her tongue as she tried to shake off the stars she saw. Her cheek was swelling almost instantly. She had to quickly move, to gather her wits. There was something terribly wrong going on and she had to fight him, fight his demon too, perhaps, yet again.
''John, this isn't you. The John I know and care for is not a monster. He was forced to do those things...''
''...and yet I LOVED it, Helen. Did I ever tell you that part? I LOVED it. Even now, even as you pretend to be composed I can see how I repulse and terrify you. It's thrilling for me, you know, to see someone so strong succumb to the fear...to the pain...'' He leapt at her wielding the knife and she rolled out of the way just in time, hearing fabric tear on her blouse but feeling, thankfully, no contact was made of blade upon skin.
''I don't want to kill you, John.'' she said, backing away further, the darkness of the secure environment now more of a death trap waiting to snatch a victim than a carefully planned out living arrangement for predatory creatures she protected. She felt less safe every moment and yet also knew the real thing to fear was pursuing her with a knife, the father of her child, crazy as that would seem to the universe as a whole. But, crazy seemed to be business as usual at The Sanctuary.
''You will if you must. To be honest, I don't mind. It makes this game more fun for me. Just like Iris. That ginger cunt's certainly got spirit. She fights and fights, no skill, of course, but she certainly seems to want to live. Makes this much more sport. Not as fun, a bloodbath, if there's no will to live in the victim. Or, when they simper and whine like children...it's disgusting. Like that silly little blathering idiot of Worth's...She gave up far too quickly. Begged me to stop, begged for her life, wah, wah, wah...in the end I killed her just to silence the annoying cloy of her voice. Really. Have some self respect, girl....But, you, you'll fight. Jenny even learned to fight well. Then again, she's got your body, might as well use it. I left her suffering. She can learn now from this mistake, never trust the bad boy to ever fully reform. Helen, your turn to learn a lesson or two.''
Helen had inched her way to where the acidic slugs enclosure door was. She pulled herself up to a standing position as she quickly typed the code in the lock's keypad, using her thumbprint on an identification pad to initiate the door to open. She moved quickly out of the way, climbing a tall tree in the arboritum as the slugs moved forward en masse, toward their chosen meal, Montique John Druitt. It was while she climbed the tree that she spotted something red and slick up the bark of the one across the path, closer to the doors, a blood trail. Her eyes followed the trail to see her own leg, well, a copy of her leg, Jenny's now, dangling from the limb the injured woman clung to. From her vantage point Helen could see the woman was breathing and hanging on well but she was quite badly slashed up. She would die from blood loss soon if no one helped her. As the giant acidic slugs cornered Druitt Helen wondered where the others were and if anyone heard her call for help.
