Scared Lit are fixing things

There's a Catch-22 element to all of this.

We're mad because things aren't going the way we want them to and Lit won't respond.

Ah ha. Lit responded and changed something. That means something needed changing and we were right to be mad all along.
Did I miss official comments somewhere?

Rather than responding to all those smartass comments individually, I'll just quote one of my posts in a different thread:

What is happening on AH is - authors for whom Lit is working as intended, convincing authors who are having serious problems with the most basic functionalities that Lit is working just fine, that they are just brats and whiners, and that this is free and they should just suck it up and stop complaining. Typical AH solidarity ( đź–• ).

The finger is brand new content, though. Enjoy it.

Allow me to post another alternative.
People understand that there are some problems with Lit right now, even if it doesn't impact them personally.
They are sympathetic to those who are experiencing difficulties.
They are also tired of non-stop complaints about it because it is essentially pissing into the wind at this point.

No fetish shaming, please... 🤭

There are quite a few who deny anything beyond a tiny glitch and are constantly downplaying the problem. That's also quite annoying and insulting even.

Knowing the AH mentality, I seriously doubt that in more than a few cases.

It is pissing in the wind, I agree. But I don't see them express the same kind of snark about many other forever recurring topics. Not being able to publish a story is the denial of service for the most basic reason for being here, on Lit. It's certainly going to draw a lot more ire than UI not being snappy enough, or feed not loading fully, etc.

Let me give you my full view here, instead.

There are people here who are quite invested in Lit, and for whom this place has a special meaning, and they sometimes react impulsively and emotionally to these complaining posts. I understand that, and I try not to react to such reactions. They are defensive for an actual reason, even if the reason isn't wholly rational. I can appreciate their honesty, at least.

But there is also a number of people who are just too happy to protect their own small privilege here, the fact that everything is working fine for them. They think they earned it for being long-time members, or great authors, or something like that. I could bet my ass that some are very much enjoying this situation where they are privileged to go through the queue quickly, while some are having serious problems.

I can imagine some of them snickering and implying behind the scenes how it must be just people who use AI, or write so blandly, etc. They can enjoy the new content from my previous post.

Edit: @Kelliezgirl, you need to understand that people are very, very pissed off about this, and that these threads serve for venting that anger, among other things. It's pissing in the wind, for sure, but it serves a purpose.

People got VERY snarky and dismissive when the constant threads about AI rejections were coming up every day.
So, it's not exactly a new phenomenon.

Maybe some people are snickering, but all the complaints just give them more to snicker about and it isn't going to change how Laurel and Manu deal with the issues.

I understand people are angry, but you are alienating potential allies.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Allies in what sense? I think we can all agree that no one here can do anything to influence the queue and whitelists. And those two are what's behind the huge difference in how our stories are being treated.

People who are at least sympathetic to your cause?
Perhaps that's a better way of putting it.

There's a huge difference between minimizing someone else's suffering out of ignorance (Not My Problem syndrome), and me (having had a 60+ day pending wait once) telling others that their irate reaction at 10 days (or whatever) is a bit much and to settle down. Like, if that had never happened to me I'd probably be a lot more sympathetic to 14 days pending, or 21, or 28.

But it did.

Well, let's say that these kinds of threads tend to bring out people's honest reactions. The tension and repetitiveness help.
And I'd rather have honest sympathy from fewer people, even if it has to come out through some initial conflict, than the fake, polite, and dry "sympathy" from people who just care about their own interests.

It was for your illustrated SW story, wasn't it?

Yup. 62 days had me sitting through 2 complete Illustrated postings/cycles. A few of stories went up right after submission, and then 32 days later a few more, and then nothing for another 30 days.

How long has yours been pending?

I'm sure you can see how that isn't a fair comparison. Illustrated stories worked like that, more or less, for everyone.

I can remember people reporting that they waited for weeks and even a full month before their illustrated story was approved. Maybe some had to wait for longer, IDK. But that's how the approval process worked for illustrated stories. For everyone. Maybe some waited just a few weeks, maybe some waited for a few months. Everyone knew that's how illustrated stories worked.

Let's not mix apples and oranges.

Oh ho ho, now who's minimizing other peoples struggle?

There's no reason Illustrated had to be handled the way it used to be. I had to sit and watch thousands of other stories go up while mine sat. It stung more every day, but I waited.

How long has yours been pending?

I'm not minimizing anything. I'm just saying that it's apples and oranges.

If everyone here suffered the same queue times for REGULAR stories as people who are complaining, there would be pitchforks and torches everywhere. But by all means, keep comparing those two situations as if they were exactly the same.

People are very pissed of. Not we.

See, I just assumed you were caught up in this bug too. It's hitting people at random, why not you, and I'm definitely not reading that thread. You're so upset about it, but it's not affecting you, is it? I asked you at first assuming it would be some serious number and then that would give me the opportunity to be as real and sympathetic as I know how. I genuinely wanted to say something directly to you, about this problem you're having and the bugs you're dealing with, and your silence is making me feel like a fool.

Now, I have admiration for people who fight on behalf of others, but there's a little bit of stolen valor that happens when you let it be vague about your own motivations. How much of this is spillover from you being mad about that one time you got one bombed and when the sweep happened it wasn't as much of a sweep as you wanted it to be? How much of other people being very pissed off is because you keep egging them on?

If I'm wrong, I'll own it and redact this.
I'd suggest people are very pissed because they chose to be, but that's just me.

We can only control what we can control and this site and its workings is not that.
Sure, I've had stories sit for over a month since August, but my Holiday entry got posted right on schedule after I fixed the reason it got rejected.

Go ahead and flame me if you like, but I think it's ridiculous with all the real crap going on in our world, that we get upset about how a free website works, or doesn't. It's honestly laughable.

I believe I'm a known quantity here, same as you. I believe I act consistently in many threads, regardless of whether I'm personally affected or not.

Anyway, if you insist, my most recent story was pending for 15 days before getting published. And it happened on the wave of many approvals, as in those few days many stories in the Lesbian category were published, so my story was burried quickly, being published as the bottom story on that day.

After a year and a half long hiatus, it was my first story, and the long wait, the anxiety and not knowing whether it would be published at all, totally killed my re-emerging buzz for writing.

The fact that, due to the large influx of stories, my story had only one or maybe two decent days of exposure made me feel like it wasn't worth it to write for such a long time, and then fret about being published.

So I know what's it like, and I can only imagine how it is for those who waited for a month, only to face rejection. Make of that what you want.
