Schools For New Mutants

Lucas

As I lean against the door of the shop, enjoying the show of the clerks as they fuss over Tara and Angel, I let my other senseswander.

Somewhere, someone is playing music, a guitar, I think. Whoever it is sounds pretty dammed good. I'm sorry to hear it stop and promise myself to check the place out a little later. Been a few months since I've played and I miss it...maybe they'll even have some cedar flutes. If not, I suspect I can find a decent block somewhere and make my own as Grandfather had taught me.

A whiff of an almost familiar scent catches me attention. the hair on the back of my neck stirs, goes down the strip of pelt that covers my spine. It's an instinctual reaction, not one necessarily signaling anything immediately dangerous. It's unique in its own way, but there is that subtle undertaste I've come to know so well, not very different from my own. The smell of predator

I glance around and see a guy and a girl walking hand in hand. Takes me a moment, then I realize these must be two of the students from that other school as I recall the images the Professor had flashed to us earlier.

As they pass the boutique, I give them a nod.

Wei-Fong Chan: Purchase

Wei-Fong admired the dress Ms. Frost had pointed out to her. Obviously this woman knew her tastes in the flambouyant. The dress was made of finest emerald-colored silks, or so it looked to her, and cut so that it would match the trim of her body very closely down to the waist. There, a sash of verdant, sewn with light purple trim, wrapped around the body. The sash was clasped together with an amethyst buckle. Below the waist, the dress flowed about the thighs and calves, but gave free movement from the revealing slash to buttock level on the left side. As if to draw an admirer's glance back up the dress, the neck plunged to waist level. Silver lacework trimmed the plunging neckline and traced across the flowing shoulders. Not many people would dare to wear a dress like that, and even fewer could carry it off, but to Wei-Fong, it was heavenly. She had to have it.

OOC: I have to agree with things everyone else has said, Isolde and Neale - you two are awesome writers. Goddess help the rest of the world if you live with the fullness you put in your characters.

Oh, and Serah, thanks. Of course, it helps to write this sort of character if you know/have known real multiples in your life. I could never do the dilemma or the potential power of such a personality justice, but I can write it well enough for this thread.

Vincent

Vincent followed Martin happily. Vincent had to stop himself from cradeling his guitar all the time. he finnaly relaxed as Martin took over in Silicon Valley. Martin Maxed out each system and even included Vincent in the purchases. Vincent picked up something called Unreal tournament and Super Wars for Martin as a gift and watched Martin in his element.Vincent made 1 suggestion that they pick up a couple for the girls.but other than that, Martin seemed to really know what he was doing so Vincent just stood back and watched with a smile. Vincent smiled as they walked out with vouchers for more Computer equipment than Vincent had ever seen. He could only imagine the set up Martin Had created and chukled as he thought of the late night game fests back at the academy. Vincent was uncharactersitically happy and When Martin suggested picking up the clothes and 'hanging out' Vincent Marveled at how wonderfully normal that sounded. "Hanging out' that sounds like an amzingly good Idea, lead on my friend."

Zoe

Zoe looked at Joseph, then at their joined hands. A bit too much contact for her liking, but it was tolerable. It certainly wasn't hurting anything.

Ms. Frost's message came in loud and clear. Other mutants? From a different school... she looked around, but couldn't see anyone right off the bat, just some guy in a bandana nodding at them from a boutique. She waved back, and... his biorythms were off. Just a little bit, more beastial than a human should be. That would mean...

A fellow mutant, trying to be friendly. Zoe waved back more enthusiastically.

Angel:

I had just pulled on a floral summer dress over my naked body, when I felt it again. These were unfamilar presences, and for a moment I felt threatened.

Lucas!

Pulling open the curtain of the room, I rushed out, bare-footed. Lucas was standing there, safe and fine. I heaved a sigh of relief, until I felt it get stronger, as if they were just right beside me.

I turned, and saw them for the first time...

Lucas

I stroll over to the couple. It's the guy, I realize as I get closer, that I've caught the scent from. I can tell he's having much the same reaction as I am, that instinctual one, yet I'm hoping there won't be trouble.

The girl's real pale, but I realize that's her natural color. She seems more spirit than flesh, her scent more like ozone, the crackling of power than most folks. She's got these eyes, though, an incredible blue.

The guy's shorter than I am, though taller than the girl he's with. Looks tough without strutting, which is something I respect.

I put out my hand. "Hi, I'm Lucas."

"Thanks for the reminder about the ladies. I do hope they like the computers. Did you see the look on the salesman's face when I casually said, 'Yes, we'll be needing three more just like it.'?"

I was practically skipping down the mall relishing in the power I have. "God, I hope Ms. Frost doesn't mind me running wires all over the academy, or how much I just spent on equipment. I do hope she likes the ultra system I got for her. I'd imagine she has a computer but Man, a P4 3.0 GHz prototype."

I felt myself talking a mile a minute and made myself relax. To get worked up now and risk stressing out was not a good idea. I was calmer as I spoke again. "Let's get those clothes."

We walked to the boutique. "Hey, there's Joseph and that girl, Zoe, I think it was." They were standing next to another; I couldn't see his face. But Joseph and Zoe were holding hands. I looked to Vincent and raised my eyebrow to see if he saw it too.

Angel:

I watched all who were present intently. One thing I've learnt over the years was to observe carefully. And, first impressions do count alot.

Lucas, warmly extends his greetings, and the girl seems to be equally enthusiastic at the prospect of meeting us.

Even I, right now, had no idea that we were not on the same team.

Vincent

I walk with a a never before felt spring in my step. This is all so positive and 'normal' I listen to martin race on about the hardware he bought and I chuckle ...he's happy thats a good thing for us. As mutants we will taste all the worst that humanity has in store for us,Ms.Frost has given us a rare gift and I truly belive we are making the most of it. I dont understand a quarter of what Martin is saying but I enjoy the conversation nonetheless. We walk up to Joseph and Zoe and my powers bounce off another,it was a reflex and I mean no offense by it. I catch myslef as it happens and a split second later my concentration is up and I am reminded the terrible price of my 'powers' I realize that the people striding up to Joseph are the same ones that Ms.Frost advised us of. I smile and wave.."Sorry reflex wont happen again " I try to remain friendly , this is hard work, but it's something I want to learn.

Lucas

As the guy hesitates to shake, I wait patiently. I've been through this before, maybe he hasn't. This particular thread of our scents, the one that I've encountered before, well, it's almost like having a red hot wire shoved up the nose and behind the eyes. The body reacts before the mind really has a chance to think about it. The first couple of times it happened, I was in the middle of fights before I realized it. Once I got a handle on it, well, yeah, there were still some fights from other mutants of the same sort who either didn't understand or didn't care.

Not that there's that many of us; I've been through most of the main mutant underground centers across the country and only encountered five, (yeah, one for each tooth on that thong resting in my pocket.) Most of us are not so normal looking as this guy standing before me, it's why we tend to hide out.

I hear, then smell Angel behind me. I glance over my shoulder with a grin to see her barefoot. I wonder if Tara has spotted us as well. The sales clerk follows her to the doorway and watches, but doesn't say anything. Heck, no one expects a star to run off with merchandise, and it's obvious, seeing as she's barefoot, Angel isn't doing that anyway.

I nod back toward the store, "That's Angel," I say. "There's another lady inside, Tara. Come on over and I'll introduce you."

Just then, I see two more faces I remember from that message the Professor sent us headed our way.

I look back at the guy, wonder if he's going to shake my hand or maybe I should just drop it. Don't want to cause trouble, that would be too easy for us, to let our instincts take over.

OOC: sorry for my absence, RL popping up again....

IC: I kept to myself on this outing. I was still getting used to the whole mutant school thing, and was feeling pretty overwhelmed by everything at the moment. Even though the Prof had given me a credit card I spent sparingly, only picking up a few essentials and a couple of books to read. I was determined to maintain my discipline, even in these new surroundings.

So I sit in the coffee shop, reading a newspaper, when I suddenly hear a voice in my head. Professor X? Something about a different school and other students like us. Seems that they're in this mall too.

But I could read between the lines a little here. Obviously there is only one school like Professor X's, so this other school must be a rival of some sort. Sighing, I went back to my newspaper, although this time I kept one eye on the entrance, just in case.

Zoe

Zoe couldn't help but shiver a bit as Vincent approached... she wasn't quite certain why. She'd first noticed it back at the Academy, as they were all standing around introducing themselves. A tingling, head-to-toe, whenever he was around.

She extricated her thin hand from Joseph's, and extended it toward Lucas; an uncommonly warm and *gasp* social gesture on her part.

"Hullo. I'm Zoe."

Joseph

Joseph stood there and watched as Zoe walked off to talk to the person that had been waving to her. He knew that this person was another mutant and was a student of Charles Xavier so he watched this person closely. He knew that they weren't meant to start anything around here so he took a step back away from the two of them and looked around, trying to be unseen.

I take Zoe's hand, the feel of her skin somehow not quite human. I can hear her but not see her lips move. Telepathy?, I wonder. She doesn't seem real familiar or comfortable with physical contact, so I just give her hand a friendly squeeze, very light, and let go.

"Good to meet you, Zoe. You're part of the Massachusetts school, aren't you?"

I notice the guy hangs back, wary. Well, can't blame him for that. Glad to see he's playing it cool. I raise my hand in a half wave. There's a ping at the ol' brain I don't recognize, not coming from Zoe or the guy she's with.

I look around and see two other students I recognize from the Professor's message walking towards us. The one is apologizing for something, not sure what, but I shrug and smile and extend my hand to them.

"Hey, how's it going?"

Vincent/Parasite

I try step forward as Ms.Frost has encouraged us to be friendly. My mind is spinning as I take in the energy I accidentally drew as I stepped up to them. I am conentrating so as not to let my power slip again, but one of them is far more powerful then they portray themselves to be...I look towards them all and know it must be Zoe, if my calculations are right her powers must be off the scale, Ive tasted Psi's before but the sheer destructive potential in this one startles me. I focus and sigh as I say , "Hello, I'm Vincent this is Martin, Zoe and Joseph, were from the Massachusets Academy and we all have so many enemies in common Im sure theres no reason we cant be friends."

Martin

Reflex? What is Vincent..... Oh! his powers. I give a wonder why I don't feel any type of supression from him. Probably because mine doesn't really work while I'm awake, I surmise. I shake my head slightly as if to clear it. I have no frigging clue how it all works. Instead, I smile toward Lucas, nod a polite greeting to Angel, and look forward to meet Tara in the store. The saleswomen eye us expectantly, like they're waiting for something from us.

Angel:

Once things start to settle down a little, I notice at my own state of dress. I blush slightly, and turn quickly to head back to the changing room.

The others seemed like really nice people too. I wonder what goes on over at the other school. I didn't want to probe their minds though, for fear of intruding on things that I wouldn't want to know about. Besides, trust has to be earned.

Lucas

At the back of my mind, I'm idly wondering why there are two schools so similar so close together. is there some difference between them?

The students from the other school seem to be pretty good folks, far as I can see. 'Course, I've been fooled more than once by humans and mutants. I'm alert, but pretty much have gotten to the point that until a person proves their an asshole, I'd rather give them the benefit of the doubt.

Angel goes back in the store. Haven't seen Tara yet, but can tell she's still in there by her scent.

I notice Vincent is carrying a guitar case.

"What kinda axe you have there?" I ask him.

Vincent

Vincent smiles at the question, "Its a FRab Acoustic out of Jalisco. Its not exactly a rockers choice of weapon, but I tend to like the old stuff. do you know guitars?"

Lucas

"Don't know guitars by brand and such as much as I'd like to, just play a bit," I tell him. "And have hung out with folks a lot more serious about it than I am."

I nod at the case. "That a good one, eh? Care to show us what it can do?"

Vincent

I am uncharacteristicly (sp?) shy when approached about the guitar , but in truth the offer sounds like fun. I look around a realize that were in a shopping area "I dont think security would smile to kindly on a impov concert in the clothing dept, but after clothes shopping we were going to meet at the food court. Maybe you all could join us and we could see what you can do with a guitar too?"

Lucas

I smile, for it has been a few months since I have had a guitar in hand...or a flute. I gave my last one to Miles that night he decided he had to go back to Ireland, had to find the lass he left behind.

"Sounds like a plan, man." I say. "I look forward to it."

Martin

But that's not an axe, that's a.... Oh. Cool people talk. Never mind. I chide myself for the geeky thoughts. I start admiring the plastic plants in the mall decor.

OOC: :p

Wei-Fong Chan: Wonder

Wei-Fong could feel the power of life outside of the boutique: or rather the power of excitement, greed and annoyance. People, emotional and vibrant, were everywhere. She loved the feel of the emotions of others. And more, she could feel the presence of water - a significant if not great amount. She concentrated harder on it, feeling its form and power.

"A fountain?" She said, smiling broadly. "There is a fountain in this building?"

She had to go and see it. She longed to play with it and make the waters dance. She turned to Miss Frost and Rache. "Please, excuse me. There is something I want to see."

With that she began to stand up to leave the store.

OOC: Unless either of you wish to say anything, I'm gonna have her go out and possibly be seen by the others messing with the water. Of course, wise as Emma is, she may have a thing or two to say about a naked (never did put on that dress) blue-green skinned, foam haired woman being seen in public. I leave that to you guys.
