States rights was the mantra that lead up to the civil war. Those states that later became the Confederacy believed that the states should be the ones to decide slavery issues or not within their own state.GOP: leave it up to the states to decide!
States: *decide to protect abortion and travel between states to get one*
GOP: no not like that
Wait until it starts affecting military recruitment.States rights was the mantra that lead up to the civil war. Those states that later became the Confederacy believed that the states should be the ones to decide slavery issues or not within their own state.
I had often believed, optimistically, that when there was such a conflict of law between one state and another, that it was the Federal government that had to decide to create uniformity and fairness for the entire nation.
Can you imagine the chaos in the investment markets if they were allowed to operate under the concept of States Rights?
Or for that matter, currency? Why not have it where each state has it's own currency. States Rights?!
Or smoking? Drinking? Draft enrollment? Child labor laws? Immigration? Pollution? Murder?
you are by no means the only person who is fleeing the country because of the worries about authoritarianism... I have almost a half dozen friends who are making concrete plans to do the same.Wait until it starts affecting military recruitment.
DoD don't hesitate to move the military out of states and move operations to different bases. It's already happening. This is going to have so many awful implications for some states and their local communities. So many towns rely on the military to keep them afloat.
I don't think some people realize the gravity of the authoritarian pull that's happening right now. It's wild to be in the middle of the storm. I kinda feel shit that I can eject from the shit show. And that I feel like I have to.
I'm feeling strong solidarity to my great grandparents who made the same decision to leave Germany when they did.you are by no means the only person who is fleeing the country because of the worries about authoritarianism... SameI would like to leave. I honestly would. I know where this is all going, I've studied history. But I have no resources to leave and honestly? I've got nowhere to go. I have nothing to offer worth another country taking me in. It is what it is.
Strong Russian Man, looking for Soft, squishy American man for homemaking duties, plus occasional naked wrestling. Vlatomir will treat you gooood.Same
Maybe someone will start a service for mail order spouses from the U.S.!

I believe the next three years will fall somewhere on that spectrum, sure. And things are higher stakes than they have been in a while. This is the start of the Great American Reckoning. It's going to be a bumpier ride than many of us are used to. At some point, enough heads will turn the other way and there may be enough push back. But perhaps not until it's too late. It's hard to tell.Don't be silly Aussie. Get your kids the hell out of this place. Because in the next 3 years, the United States will be either a total and open dictatorship, controlled by the Christian Nationalist movement, or we will be embroiled in an endless war that will see us become the new Middle East.
I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but, I think you aren't far off the mark. The world will change dramatically by 2050. And not for the better. Politically and environmentally. Prepare your people.I believe the next three years will fall somewhere on that spectrum, sure. And things are higher stakes than they have been in a while. I like to visualize world events as bubbles in a leva lamp. All these competing forces acting on us "blobs" and we move about the place, sometimes colliding and other times breaking apart. We're at an odd time in the world where everyone's perception of reality was affected in one way or another with the pandemic and that's really uncomfortable to come to terms with.
To my knowledge. The only state that can leave is Texas. As it is in the state constitution.States need to be proactive...not reactive. Start planning today how to leave the Union. Else....it will get ugly. Choices are simple. Doesn't mean a state has to leave...but options need to be available. As it stands today...it is illegal.
I hope my train arrives LONG before that. The world will change dramatically by 2050.
Too many people do not believe that voting matters and life is often too complicated on a personal level to look up and see how serious the macro issues are.All I know...if two 5yr olds are fighting...how do you stop it? Threaten to take away the Xbox. Problem solved. They are best buds again and 5 minutes later it is all forgotten. That is politics. I don't get why anyone wants a 5 year old making decisions for them...but yet a bunch of people keep putting the same kids in office. That's the insanity....not the 5 yr olds acting like 5 yr olds. But the adults refusing to vote differently and end this bullshit.
