Second annual Crime and Punishment story event - the 2024 Story Event Official Support Thread

I'm caught in the ins and outs. Not nearly as many votes as you—45. One vote is in the 4.5someting ranger, and the next vote is in the 4.47, 4.9 area.
Got my obligatory 1-bomb on my story. Knocked it down from 5.0 to 4.8 (19 5* votes before the 1* vote).

The LW category never ceases to amaze. Over 900 votes in 34 hours. I have stories that didn't get that many views in the same time frame.

Despite the score, the comments have been overwhelmingly positive and I'm really glad I did the story for this challenge. I'll have to come up with something for next year.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I will try to read a few entries every day this week. Yours is next on my list.

Edit: This will be the only story I read today. It's a novella that's just shy of a novel. :) 37,500 Plus words, 11 Lit pages. Impressive, most Impressive.
It's a shame that Non-Erotic scores so low. That's a great story.

Well, my story got published but didn't make the list. I'm not mad. Just curious...

I know I cut and pasted the Crime and Punishment event title in the notes as was suggested.

Do more stories get added as the month goes on? My story was longer than most, so I'm wondering if it just didn't make the deadline for the initial list today because it took longer to moderate. I assume they don't update the list every ten minutes or anything. :)

Did you put Crime and Punishment 2024 as a tag?

No. I didn't. I didn't see that in the instructions. I just saw the part about putting it in the instructions. My bad I guess.

It's a good habit to get into when submitting for any challenge or contest. Sometimes Laurel will add it for you if you didn't use all ten tags.

Good evening everyone! I just wanted to share I will try and throw my hat, aka my story titled Considering All Options, into the writers challenge. My goal is to try and expand my writing chops over the next months and publish in different categories.

This will be submitted in Erotic Couplings. Wish me luck and thank you all for these types of opportunities for relatively new Lit writers like me.

And I cut about 4K words out of it because it was getting too big ... you'll see some of them at the start of the next story ...

Welcome, and good luck!

I just saw that Lauren did add the tag to my story, but it still didn't make the list. That's OK.

I was trying to take more of a part in the community here, but the story itself was an older story that I just reedited for the challenge. Not being on the list will limit readership, but it's not a disaster or anything.

The list doesn't get created until after the end of the challenge. It'll be posted on the 25th.

I’ve been trying to submit mine for 10 days. After three rejections in Celeb/Fanfic it’s finally scheduled to post tomorrow in I/T. (There’s a little bit of mother/daughter action). Despite making it non-specific to any real life celebs it is apparently super difficult to get anything involving Extortion published there. I had no idea. Nevertheless I am happy to carry over my P.I. main character from the Hammer event to this one.

Don't be afraid of long submissions. They often do quite well here.

Speaking for myself, I'd be VERY likely to read a 25-page Lit novella and VERY unlikely to want to get invested into a multi-part tale.
Thanks for the advice, both yours and others. I submitted it all as a single 23 page story and I’m very happy with the response. The length doesn’t seem to be a limiting factor.:)

I think the list is published on September 25th? With events, stories go live as they are posted, and then a list is published a few days after the close of submissions date...I think? Happy to stand corrected if I'm wrong...😉
