Secret Santa Interest Thread

I love you all dearly but I'm not releasing my address to anyone I haven't personally met. Maybe next year after Lit3.

I was worried about that too the first time I participated, but the way I got around it was requesting that a long time AH regular got me. That way I knew I could trust the person who got me.

This sounds like a lot of fun!! What is the price limit (or is there one) and if we want can we contact them to get a better idea of what they want???

There is a price limit. It will (hopefully) be determined in this thread discussion along with the deadlines for joining, sending, and opening day.

You don't contact them directly since this is Secret Santa. I will pm you with the answers to your Santa's questions. Once we get the questions together, then everyone who is participating will pm me their answers.

Once everyone has had time to decide if they want to participate, there will be an official sign up thread and a deadline for everyone to enter. Once that deadline passes, I will put up a new thread where everyone will choose a number. The number they choose will determine their Santa. I will pm everyone with the name of their Santa and all pertinent info (address, question answers, etc.)

I plan on getting a P.O. Box while I'm staying here with my parents, so I'll probably use that for this too, assuming I'll be able to participate.

Also, last year a couple of my friends participated in this activity but never received a gift. I understand we want to do this with our friends, but please don't ignore those we may not know so well, or maybe even don't like. That goes against the spirit of this whole idea.

I would love to do it again. But, I must say, upfront, that I would definitely prefer to be gifting someone here in the States. (UPS screwed me over last year; and, although I was told not to worry myself since it really wasn't my fault, I can't help but have periodic guilt. I am still trying to work at suprising my giftee when they least expect it.)

That's not a problem, Remec. When we do the official sign up, I will ask people to designate whether they will send internationally or not.

I think the price limit we set last year ($15 or £7.50) was quite a good one - it's not a lot of money, so it doesn't rule too many people out and it forces Santas to be creative, hey Grace? I like presents better when they've had more thought than money thrown at them :)

I think the limit is usually flexible, but around $15 was last years limit I think!

Post internationaly or no is a piece of info we need to give Crim also if you'd prefer the person to be an AH regular too, good point Remec. :)

I'm leaning in favor. How late can we commit?

Crim will set a date when everyone will have to be decided by, probably in a few weeks time, maybe as long as a month I don't know. But once the official date is passed, you'll not be able to join in as the numbers will have been allocated. :)

Good heavens, did someone actually do that? You're right it's an appallling attitude. If you agree to take part, you agree to abide by the whole thing, and provide a gift, no matter who you choose.

No, this isn't on and no, it didn't happen.

Yes some people didn't get presents and I was very saddened about it but as far as I know there were delivery problems with those presents and it had nothing to do with people not wanting to send things to 'strangers'

If you only want an established poster, state that. It's only fair.

And I also sent eBooks to all folks who didn't have a gift on opening day. I didn't want anyone to miss out.

I'm IN! I've loved it every year, and the things I learn about people is amazing. One of the coolest ideas on this site.

Big kudos Crim.

Why thank you! :D

(Tho I can't remember now if I actually thought of it, but it seems like I might have.)

Oh, and I'll play, of course, as well as offer my services as an advisor to you Crim. You might as well take advantage of my experience. :)
