Serpent's Tooth

Krolsheek was visibly disappointed to have to let go of his mistress so soon, but on the other hand not doing so would have been an act of disobedience! So for him there was no doubt what to do, before Oglaf could do anything he stepped over and quickly picked up one of the chests.

"I don't think there'll be a problem. After all Oglaf claimed the thing would be discreet. Let's have a look. But first the more important question, what are we going to do with the slaves and that sadistic healer - if he still is alive?"

"Why - leave them where they are, I guess. We would not like them to stab us in the back, or blurt out what happened before we have a safe distance from here?" she thought about the looks and remarks from the slaves that taunted her as she was whipped and chained. Phyliss spoke low as she watched the two slavers carrying the chests outside.
"More important, what will we do with those two?"

Verialyn leaned a bit closer to Phyliss as she replied in an equally whispered tone "Well, good luck trying to get rid of Krolsheek. Oglaf I'd lock into the cage as well, shoudl give us enough of a headstart.

But maybe we can free some of the slaves that acted nicely and take them with us? As our slaves or as free ones."

"I never wanted to have slaves.... but don't you think that any slaves we let go might warn us?" Ühyliss thought a moment. Two women, one of them a gorgon, driving alone in a large wagon, could be troublesome. Even more as she was weaked on almost every level.
"Maybe it would not be wrong to take some males - not to many - along for safety and contact. But I would not like to take them as slaves, but more as free men who volunteer to help and protect us. But how would we know who's trustworthy?"

"Oh, that is easy." Verialyn grinned back. "We simply take the ones with the thickest dicks."

"Now, then's your time to choose. I even wonder if we take the healer along, if he's still alive." They came into the room they first entered, containing the cages.
"Wait a moment, boys, you can put down the chests for a moment." said Phyliss, looking at the cages.

"In your case I think the choice is easy..." Verialyn grinned as she gave Krolsheek another look. His gaze was lingering un Phyliss like that of the most faithful puppy.

"Loyal AND well endowed, why would you want someone else?"

Phyliss just didn't have the heart right now to resist, although she was sure to be sorry later.
"Uhm, well, we can't leave him behind in this state. But we need someone who is fully aware and able to act in the public where I don't dare to show myself or we need a man. We need someone we can trust, so I am not so sure about Oglaf here, even if he is known if someone recognizes the wagon. Shall we put him into the cage or not? And we have to choose at least a second man with full mind beside Kroolshek. Someone although looking at least a bit respectable, like a trustworthy, honest citizen. Any favourites?"
Phyliss stepped over to the cages, looking at the male slaves, and over to the cage of the women, to see what happened to Moldik meanwhile.

Moldik was still unconscious. Phyliss could have sworn Verialyn had felled him with a single punch to the chin, but for that he was sporting at least one bruise too many now.

"Mistress thinks me incapable of acting in her best interest?" Krolsheek finally spoke up while she was still observing the interior of the cage. There was an undeniable sadness in his voice.

And Verialyn chimed in as well "Oh no, I definitely would not trust Oglaf here. A man who would not shamelessly dick me given the opportunity must be a dangerous weirdo." That of course was not the main reason for her distrust, but she damantly felt it woudl be saver to leave him behind.

"So in the cage you go..." And with that she once again produced the key and unlocked the door, observing the inhabitants warily.

This was getiing difficult already. She felt sorry for Kroolshek and was unnerved by him already. Why didn't the poison....
"You might be a bit in bad health now, but we will see for that."
Oglaf didn't really fight as he was to be pushed into the cage - he felt more safe then with this two diabolic women.
Phyliss looked over the male slaves. Who would be trustworthy and respectable enough? She eventhought about Moldik for a moment, but that was to risky, beside his skills.
"Whom of these men would we like to take along as partner of our enterprise? What do you think, Verialyn?"

Verialyn made sure that she properly locked the cage behind Oglaf. So far the women inside were being civil, actually they gave him a wide berth. But judging from their stares that would not last.

Eying the cage with the males as well she had to laugh again "You know me, I'll likely pick the ugliest of the bunch." Not waiting for a reply she called out. "Hey boys, down with the pants, we want to see what you have to offer."

"Better luck at their faces and manners. We need someone who'll ask for the way, bribes the guards or buys our things if we want to remain unseen for some reason." she run her hand through her snakes.
"I may be more dependendant on that then you. But we need someone who is honest and respectable and wont sell us out." She looked at the men herself. Not to young, not to shabby, nor clumsy or illmannered, no one looking like a criminal, idiot or greenhorn.
"Any one of you want to apply for a good job?"

"Mistress..." Krolsheek chimed in before Verialyn coudl say anything, a most sad look on his face. "I am quite capable of all the tasks you mentioned, there should be no need to hire someone else."

Phyllis turned around and looked at Kroolshek. He had looked and acted like a moron not long ago, but now he spoke more like he had his senses back. Maybe he was recovering? He would be useful then, until he would recover so far to renember that he was the slavetrader.
"But maybe we would like to have two men travelling with us? Would you like to object about that?"

Verialyn just watched the exchange with amusement. Her companion seemed to still be struggling with the situation of having a faithful servant for once. A great show, all in all.

Krolsheek himself looked saddened by the mention of another male "If mistress so wishes, I will accept his company. But I can assure you I will be able to fullfill your needs on my own." Only then did some glimmer of realization - or was it hope - dawn on him. "Or would that other male take care of your companion?" His gaze briefly wandered towards Verialyn.

"We'll see about that..." Phyliss suddenly realized his words.
"There are other ways to serve a woman then the sexual one... as I said! But we are loosing time. Are you going to choose one now, or shall I choose for you?" She looked at Verialyn, impatient.

Verialyn just grinned back "Maybe you want to make a suggestion?" before returning her attention once agin to the cage with the male slaves. "You are a bit hard of hearing, aren't you, or why am I still not seeing any cocks dangling out in the open? It's only fair, you all got to see me stark naked some minutes ago!" Her tone made it clear that she was not angry at all, merely in a playful mood, and as important as looks and manners might be, she still would like to consider that thrid criteria as well.

As she had an extended look at the men on display she could overhear Krolsheek behind her appraise himself. "Of course I am capable to serve you in other manners as well, mistress. In my long years as a slaver I have accumulated quite the experience in negotiations and offering bribes to officials, and I would be more than happy to employ that knowledge in your service."

"Well, so don't dissapoint me then. Tell me, who of this slaves is educated and credible enough to pose as your new business partner?"
The gorgon looked over the slaves as she spoke to Kroolshek. Some of the slaves did not move, either out of fear, or because of their pride, while others were somehow insecure and made at least suggestions to expose themself. Phyliss looked out for those who kept themselves covered out of pride, as they appealed most to her taste.

"Hmm..." Krolsheek scratched his chin as he stepped closer to the cage. "if you need someone experienced in business dealings your best bet would be Tendromus Falrion" He gestured towards an unassuming small man in his fifties who stood in a back corner of the cage. He was of average build, his greying hair already receeding, and his hands were still fiddling with his belt buckle trying to make up his mind whether to follow Verialyn's order.

"He has been a merchant in Tulbreg for more than thirty years, and for all I know he is one shrewd negotiatior." Indeed, upon closer examination a certain spark of intelligence could be made out in his observant eyes. "Apparently he has become too good in making deals, and eventually some of the larger trading companies whom he had bested once too often banded together and brought him down in some illicit scheme or another. False accusations backed by false evidence, if he is to be believed. Which is how he ended up here. Oh, he is also a great accountant."

"Perfect, just what we need. Will you let him out of the cage? And he has to be fitted with decent clothing."
The gorgon had made up her mind; she was keen to leave, as she felt uneasy here, besides she still hoped to find out about her lost posessions, and they would need the help of such a man for the quest.

"Of course mistress."

Krolsheek fetched the keys and unlocked the cage, gesturing towards Tendromus "Hey, you, come over here, the mistress wants to speak with you."

Unbeknownst to him and behind hs back Verialyn leaned closer to Phyliss and whispered into her ear, teasing her "Didn't you want to pick someone good looking?"

"Good looking? I am sure I can pick up someone goodlooking as soon we are in good society again. Meanwhile, we need someone practical."
Phyliss turned to the man taken outside. She didn't smile, but spoke without menace or anger, using the sophisticated approach she knew from upper class business people.
"My friend and me are no slaves; we are free and well established women who were abducted by brutal beasts who dared to sell us into slavery. So we are not looking for a slave, but a honest and well mannered gentleman who us willing to help us to restore our position. It is your chance to regain your own freedom. So I don't ask for obedience, but true loyalty. What do you say to this?"

Tendromus eyed the snake haired woman strangely. Not with disdain or fear, more like if he wanted to mention that only a moron would turn down that offer. When he finally spoke, in a rather quiet but not unpleasant voice, it was to the same accord.

"If you can free me from slavery I will do the best I can."

"Very well. Just put on some decent clothing, and finally we can go. I'm Phyliss Ovida and this is Verialyn. We will talk about anything else as soon we are out of here."
Phyliss looked over to Verialyn, giving Kroolshek time to provide Tendromus with some clothes.
"Anything we should take care off before we go?"

Verialyn just shrugged, and then smiled "Krolsheek's boner maybe, but besides that... We have clothes, we have lots of gold, and a carriage."
