"Don't worry about that now. as long you will help us, you don't have to fear to starve." said Phyliss.
"This vehicle provides privacy, but the price is a poor visibility. How long will we take to arrive in the city?"
"Five hours. Maybe an opportunity to catch some sleep. I didn't have much in the last time, for obvious reasons." The gorgon leant back to catch some sleep after all the horrors of the last days.
"Sleep sounds like a good idea..." Verialyn demostratively stifles a yawn before she lies down on the bench, bedding her head right into Tendromus lap. The man is too surprised by this to do anything but freeze and look at her wide eyed.
"Your manners, my dear..." murmured Phylliss, as she felt into a good sleep for a long time. She had weird dreams, maybe another effect of the healer, but it was not yet time to talk about it.
Verialyn follows suit, and when she finally wakes again it is from the rattling sound the iron bound wagon wheels make on some cobble stones. Tendromus had slumped forward over her and fallen asleep as well, and so she carefully extracts herself from under him without waking the man before looking outside. And there, less than a mile away, she can see a city wall.
"Hey girl, we are there..." she whispered as she gently nudged the gorgon's shoulder.
Phyliss opened her eyes and smiled, as she felt a familiar feeling that cannot be described to those who never experienced it. She looked to Verialyn and smiled softly, as she whispered "I feel it coming back. Not the full power yet... but i feared it would be gone forever."
She sat up and looked out, noticing that Tendromus was asleep.
"So there we are." she said not very loud, because she did not want to wake him right now.
"I am so glad for you" Verialyn beamed at her with a genuine smile, and to further suppoer her reassurance she leaned forward and getnly placed her hand on her firends shoulder.
She better had not done that, though, since by now unknown to her the mystical power of the wargs flowed in her blood as well, and that included the antimagically debiliating qualities of her touch.
Suddenly it felt like somehome had pulled a plug in her, and all magic drained out. Even if she was to stunned to say a word, her face showed clearly what just happened. Even her snakes stiffened.
"Oh, what kind of gorgon am I? No poison and no magic! Booohoohooo....." her voice stopped in tears, and she palmed her face with both hands, starting to sob.
"Don't worry..." verialyn tried to comfort her, but she refrained from touching her friend again "You should be fine again in a few more days. And until then I will keep you safe."
Tendromus began to stir, apparently Phyliss was about to wake him up with her crying.
Phyliss kept her face covered and kept crying, after all the days of abuse this dissapointment after sudden recovery was just such a heavy blow that she could not control her emotional outbreak, and she kept weeping.
"In a way it makes you appear more human..." Verialyn tried to console her friend. She still felt a bit bad for having caused that repeated misery. Only a bit, though, since that one would pass.
Tendromus also did not know what to say, and so the pair waited in silence for Phyliss to calm down.
After some more moments of pityful weeping, Phylis calmed down.
"What now?" she asked, looking for a mirror, but of course there wasn't one, as they did not think of searching for utensils in the slavekeepers place.
"Well, if you ask me..." Verialyn started "... we let Krolsheek steer the carriage into the city, find a nice place to stay for the night, and then tomorrow morning we start asking around."
"First we must stop somewhere so that one of you can buy at least a standard makeup set for me. I can't leave the coach that way." She touched her snake.
"I must look like a mess now."
Verialyn had to cough at that, to prevent just laughing out loud. In some aspects her friend never changed. She just lost hermagic for the second time, and her biggest concern was her makeup.
"I would not worry too much, my dear" she finally said in a joking tone "Night is falling soon, so you should do fine without."
