Serpent's Tooth

"No, of course not. There has been to much killing already!" said Phyliss, now fully dressed and prepared.

Tendromus didn't dare to sight, but this was just what he expected to happen. He cursed Kroolshek who ruined the idea. He might have persuaded Verialyn with a btter start, but now it was to late.

"Glad we agree" Verialyn replied "if we wanted to proactively kill everyone who could cause us trouble ... we'd have our hands full.

So what's the plan for today?"

Verialyn smirked. Her friend should know of her nonexisting eating habits, a tribute to her vampiric nature and the related special diet.

"That one is obvious. I meant afterwards."

"Anything that will bring us closer to our lost possessions." said Phyliss. "While I have breakfast with our men, you can check our carriage; we need some money for paying, too." She turned to the men, noticing that Tendromus stiffened, as he would expect a trial. "Anyone of you with an idea where two runaway slaves with a carriage full of ladies clothes would go in this city?"

Krolsheek shrugged somewhat helplessly

"Maybe to the market, to sell these clothes?"

Verialyn meanwhile went wordlessly to fetch the gold.

"Quite possible, maybe they sold the carriage and the horses, too. You two will check for that, we can give you a description of the carriage and the men; they aren't easy to mistake, as one is very fat and the other very ugly. And some of our clothes should still be on the market, as they aren't unisize and some of them, at least mine, have been quite expensive. As I do something to wear anyway and I am most qualified for that, I will take that part of the research. Verialyn can join me or you. But i need some money first."

"Money shoud be the least of your worries"

Verialyn had returned by now and was carrying a small pouch of coins which she now was demonstratively showing to Phyliss.

"And I think I'll join you on the market."

Krolsheek just nodded his consent before he added "Tendromus and myself will check for sold carriages and horses, mistress."

"Very well. I willnow have breakfast, as I didn't have anything suitable since we were abductewd by the beasts." Phyliss took the pouch of coins in a swift, elegant move and headed towards the stairs, for the rooms where she expected breakfast to be served. Tnedromus followed her, always keeping a few steps behind her.

Right next to Tendromus was Krolsheek, and a smiling Verialyn took up the rear guard, so to speak. She'd just sit idly at the side and hoped noone would notice her not eating anything.

Phyliss ate and looked around. She was getting a lot of attention, but she had won some of her selfconfidence back, and met the eyes of the people that stared to much for her taste, and they looked away. She was lucky that the sat in the room for the better clients, as she could peek some uglier and shady characters more far away in the other rooms. One of themwas a couple; a stury, dirty blonde woman and a brutish looking man, both in their late thirties or forties. But she paind no attention and turned back to their coffee. Tendromus was hungry and ate, feeling more calm then he was before. He was still afraid of speaking or directly looking at Phyllis, but at least she hasn't been very hostile to him, maybe there was even a chance that she would forgive him. He knew he would have to apologize for that night, but maybe it needed some time for that. He noticed that Verialyn wasn't eaten and found it strange, but knew better then to ask. He knew that she wasn't what she seemed to be after the fight at the slavers house. He even felt less disturbed about Kroolshek now.

Verialyn did her best to appear busy without actually eating, which was not too difficult as Krolsheek easily ate for both of them, that voracious was his appetite. And so breakfast time passed and the raven haired vampiress was actually grateful once everyone seemed to have been fed. Hopefully they would find a safer residence soon.

Once she saw Phyliss put her cutlery down she was quick to inquire with a smile "Ready to go then? I am quite curious to see the famed Gorankh market."

"Very well. And i urgently need some more things to wear." She got up and walked down the stairs toward the courtyard. The coach was still there, and it din't take that long until the horses were ready to take them to the market. Kroolshek new the way, of course, so Tendromus sat inside. He thought about speaking with Phyliss, but he did not find the courage yet, and he had the feeling he had to be alone with her to apologize, so he kept looking out of the window. Phylis herself felt better as she was dressed properly again, riding in a coach in a rather tolerant town. And she was curious, too.

"Off we go then..." Verialyn flopped down onthe seat opposite Phyliss, in a much better mood now that the awkward breakfast was over.

And as if on cue Krolsheek spurred on the horses, navigating the carriage through the streets until in no time at all they reached the gigantic market squarewhich even at this early hour was bustling with activity.

Goranky had once been a trade center even rivalling Maadorian, and though its prime was long gone it still felt the influx of a multitude of culture. A common proverb said that if something could be bought at all, one would find it on the market of Gorankh, and indeed everything seemed available here. Fine fabrics, exquisite weapons, slaves in all shapes and forms.

Before she disembarked she shot Tendromus a sly grin and commented "Maybe while we are here I should buy a little pleasure slave?"

"Oh no. We've got enough of them Two now, and two more on the run. And what is it, that you need slaves? Just seduce your men." Phyliss got out rather quick and checked for the place with clothes.
"Much better. See, I need lingerie, some dresses, shoes, boots, and at least a negligee. And keep your eyes open for anything that belongs to us. I wish I find that lime green boots again... And a trace of our two traitors."

Verialyn got out of the carriage just as quickly, and she openly grinned at her firend

"Well, aren't slaves a sign of status? Plust it is easier than seducing them, and they will do exactly what I like, sounds a win to me."

Sche briefly looked around, taking in all the sights and sounds and smells of that bustling hive of humanity, before pointing towards the northeast.

"I think most of the clothes merchants are over there."

"Getting laid by slaves isn't exactly what I call a sign of status."
Phyliss went into the direction of the clothes merchants.
"And it throws a bad light onto your secuction skills..."
The gorgon didn't went on, as she admired an exquisitie set of black lingerie, that could just be her size.

"I guess our opinions differ on that" Besides, when it came to getting laid her status was not the foremost thing on her mind, and where out in the open would she find a treasure like Quomor on short notice?

Knowing that her friend could on occasion spend ... considerable ... amounts of time on shopping Verialyn stood around idly and watched the masses around the shop, when she saw it.

"uhh, Phyliss, you wanted us to look for a sign hinting towards the lost duo, right? Does the sight of a familiar overweight man in expensive clothing accompanied by a pretty young girl wearing a dress that looks awfully familiar count?"

Phyliss had just bought the underwear along with a nice bag where she put it in.
"What? Were? Quick, we take him from both sides!"

"Just over there..."

Verialyn extended her arm and pointed along the aisle they were currently in. About half a dozen booths away and on the other side was indeed Verkul, and his wardrobe had significantly improved since their departure.

Accompanying him, and currently holding most of his attention was a young woman about twenty years old. She was of a lsender build and had the bronze skin and fair hair of the Norggiki people, and at the moment she was laughing back at Verkul. The dress she wore looked very familiar to Phyliss, almost exactly like one she had leftin the carriage.

Currently they seemed to be intent to purchase a new dress for the woman, as at the moment verkul lifted a tasteful red affair from the nearby stand and held it up to her to see how the color matched.

"You want to jump him?"

"Quite right!" Phyliss rushed through the crowd, her snakes fully extended, making sure no one would dare to stand in her way.
She stopped just a few feet before Verkul, with an sharp hiss, as she stared at him, making sure he would not get past her. She blocked the girls way, too, although she wasn't her target, even if she wore her dress.

Verialyn followed her friend closely, since in thatangry mood Phyliss was quite unpredictable and prone to act on impulse. They were about half a dozen yards away when verkul became aware of the pair, and his reaction proved quite unexpected, at least for the gorgon.

A wide smile suddenly graced his face and he almost radiated happiness. Spreading his arms in a welcoming gesture he loudly proclaimed "Oh Miss Phyliss, you are here? This is indeed a lucky day, I am so happy to have found you." By all appearances his joy was genuine.

Verkul was clearly puzzled, and his eyebrows rose at the unexpected question. After a moment, though, he realized what Phyliss was aiming at.

"Oh, you mean Fyrdhild?" He casually placed a protective arm around the girls shoulder who seemed far more freightened by the gorgon's appearance that the heavyset man. "Well, we were in the process of buying her a dress of her own, but until that purchase she needed something to wear, and I did not want her to visit the market in rags."

"But why are you so irate?"

"Oh, great! After we were separated, I spent my days getting nonstop gangraped by grizzly monsters, and after we managed to escape, I didn't even have a decent dress to put on, not to mention shoes or jewelery! Where are my boots? My underwear, my jewelery, my negligees, my dresses, capes and my MONEY?" Phyliss had been close to petrify him at first, but she had herself under control that much, although her snakes vibrated and squirmed, and her voice wasn't completely under control.
