Tinnitus is no fun.

I've had ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember so I just thought it was normal. Friends told me it was not. So I am getting it all checked out early April

Sounds like tinnitus. I have that, along with some hearing loss, from my days working around loud machinery in the navy. One of my friends who is a fellow online gamer likewise has it from his career as a machinist. We both basically have to sleep with the television on, so that the background noise "runs interference" against the tinnitus and allows us to sleep.
