The pulp erotica of the 1930's such as this, had some interesting art as covers. I am not overly impressed with this cover for my own personal reasons, but pulp erotica of the 1930'-1950's combined two of my favorite creative arts: paintings and the written word.
Nice history lesson. I'm curious to know where one would go to buy such novels during that period. The pulp erotica of the 1930's such as this, had some interesting art as covers. Some covers of these cheap novels costing just a dime back then, were truly worthy of framing and displaying.
Nice painting.I selected this Picasso painting for my profile avatar. It is titled "Bacchanale," and was painted in 1955.
I am not sure.Nice history lesson. I'm curious to know where one would go to buy such novels during that period.
Thanks for the reference. I don't think I've ever seen that painting. After looking it up, I noticed that Collier painted her looking down, with her eyes open from what I could gather. Makes me wonder just what she's looking at and what she's thinking.Nice painting.
I always loved John Colliers "Lady Godiva". While not a true nude, it is suggestive in so many ways. Not just of Lady Godiva nude on horseback, but her brazenness in humbling herself to stand up for what she believed which was repealing taxes for the people she loved. Not forced to do such a bold act, she did so because she had character, integrity and poise, and John Collier captured that well.
Hah, that would have been my grabdfather's generation. My mother was born in 1930.I am not sure.
I once wrote erotic stories for a now defunct website where we depicted modern editions to these old pulp erotica books. They were the porn of our great-grandfathers back in the 1930's. The site owner would draw the covers and I would write the short erotic stories just as they had been done back in the 1930's.
You might try ebay.
Movie posters from that era are available too for purchase and are frameable.
I am not sure? Perhaps looking down in humility at the people she resided over? Thanks for the reference. I don't think I've ever seen that painting. BTW, LizVegas79, nice to meet another art lover from Las Vegas. (Okay, I'm in Henderson, but who's mapping.) Thank you for the great thread. There are definitely some nice pieces being shared.
