Should there ever be a bike-porn thread...

Another cyclist whacked by a car.

Will they ticket the cyclist for traveling the wrong way in a traffic lane?

Gah. The cyclist is doing himself no favors riding against traffic, though I find myself thinking more and more about the suv that's going to run me down from behind.

At BAL .162, though, I'm not sure it would have mattered in which direction the cyclist was headed.

Turns out, the cyclist was going the wrong way in traffic. Witness have made statements.

I'm not sure that will matter for the defendant. .162 is a pretty solid score on the impairment scale about anywhere.

The driver needs to go to jail. The cyclist needs a traffic ticket.

People need to know the damn rules, and they haven't changed in the over 50 years I've been riding a bike.

The rules

I'd agree. Though, under the circumstances, it seems like the cyclist has already been penalized, and will probably continue to be penalized.

Ticketing him for a moving violation after this seems like a bit of piling on. Adding insult to (closed head) injury.

I went with bar end mirror years ago. Don't feel safe on roads without one. Usually have to buy one a year from being clipped by trees or hard crashes. Kind of delicate things. Great for keeping an eye on what's going on behind you. Love them.

Stupid to not follow traffic laws on a bike. Lucky they had a helmet. Probably would have died without it. Those who ride without a helmet are just accident statistics waiting to occur. Riding MTB on street I prefer a BMX style hard shell for the small amount of extra coverage and protection.

Still no excuse for drunken cager on probation for drug charges. Toss her ass in jail for substantial time!

I'd still give him the fucking ticket. Maybe suspend the fine.

Yeah ticket him. Issue will raise it's head if he sues. Wouldn't have got hurt if he wasn't there in the first place. Insurance company will argue that.

He might have gotten hurt on the other side of the road.

I drive through here every day. There's a lot of traffic in the afternoon. I can understand going the wrong way on that side of the road. But then, you'd have to ride the sidewalk and follow the rules of pedestrians.

[for cyclists] When crossing a driveway or intersection (obeying the signal light and using the crosswalk if there is one), you must ride slower than 10 mph. If you cross a driveway or intersection faster than 10 mph, you lose any right-of-way you might otherwise have had under the code.

Intersection ? Say what ?

That's in regard to riding the sidewalks (as a pedestrian). There should be no confusion.

Adults riding on sidewalk is fucking stupid. You run down some little old lady you are fucked! Get a helmet and lights and stay on road where you belong! I hate fuckers who ride on the sidewalk. Fucking posers! Ooh look at me doing the healthy green thing. Wrong!

I'm not fond or or advocating riding on the sidewalk. But some people do and they should follow the rules. How do you know said "adults" don't have the mind of a child? Plus, there are times when sidewalk riding is appropriate. Just ride appropriately, don't be a dick. Life is too short for that.

I suppose you've never chaperoned an elementary class out for a bike ride to town?

Those are special cases. Right minded adults not sheparding kids should never ride on sidewalks. Can't think of a reason for an adult to be on sidewalk if not mentally challenged. You clip some old lady and the law will get you as bad as dangerous or reckless car driving. If you don't have the 'balls' to ride in heavy traffic get a car.

Don't clip the old lady! Don't ride multiuse trails like you're on the fucking Tour-de-France. In short, Don't Be a Dick.

I've only been run off the road 3 times by a motor vehicle. Only once was I struck and that was by a lady in a red Mustang who just kept driving. All I got was a little gravel rash. The last time, the driver of the van, looked right at me and turned across my bow. Good reflexes and brakes saved my ass, although I was pretty sore after going over the bars and down into the ditch.

Ahhh. Gotcha.

There's a reason I try like hell to avoid riding where the damn cars can kill me.

Very few of 'em driving automobiles have ever ridden and they haven't the slightest idea in hell what it's like.
