Should there ever be a bike-porn thread...

I have never ran a red-light on a bike. I would get laughed at by the guys at work who saw me sitting on my bike at night in the rain waiting for the light to turn green with zero traffic. The only way to get any respect at all from cagers is to obey all traffic rules. And even then ignorant cunts throw soft drinks at you out the window, blow their car horns or scream at you as they go by. I wear a helmet, have lights and reflective stickers, my bike is in excellent working condition and never use the sidewalk.

Those who ride bicycles and run red-lights or break all the rules of safe cycling are not cyclists, They are stupid cunts and statistics waiting to occur. I've barked at bicycles on the sidewalk from my own bike on the street. And don't strike up a conversation with cute girls on bikes not wearing helmets. She is obviously stupid.

Stock with this bike are the SRAM Rival Hydros.

I think Ti would make a great gravel frame.

None of your behavior on a bike is going to change the way cagers look at you. They break the rules to the same extent bicycles do, so other's that. Just do WHATEVER you have to do to enjoy your ride and get to your destination safely(in one piece) and just totally ignore what any one else thinks.

Then another reason is to set an example for kids. I've seen kids get around the corner from home and take off their helmets. Bought my nephew a cool looking lid as his was just an uncool chunk of Styrofoam in an attempt to make him wear it. When I took road to work would invariably pass a public school at recess. Would make sure I stopped at stop sign and made all appropriate signals.

If enough cyclists rode properly it would influence cagers opinions. Might take having more cyclist on the road. It's a dream I have.

Supposed to be pretty nice on the bunps.

My fatty is Ti, and I love it.

But, I doubt the frame makes much of a difference with all of the shock absorption of 4+ tires on single track. I really want to ride a Ti frame for a few hours on pavement or gravel -- that's when Ti is supposed to make a difference.

Yes and yes. Because there are so few cyclists on the roadway relative to car traffic, there's obviously a higher standard for cyclists. Every time a cyclist blows through a red light, even if the previous 50 cyclists did not, it just confirms the preexisting bias of the driver who doesn't like sharing the road with cyclists.

But, for most drivers, using the undisciplined cyclist's behavior as an excuse to treat all cyclists poorly on the road is just an excuse. They would have done so anyway, regardless of the propensity of the cyclist to follow the rules of the road.

It's a dream I have as well, Rom!

I think there is merit in both of these perspectives. Because there are so few cyclists on the roadway relative to car traffic, there's obviously a higher standard for cyclists. I'm a road cyclist is a semi-rural area. We defer to motor vehicles 99.99% of the time out of legal requirement and a desire to survive. In my experience, motorist's behavior around cyclists is absolutely horrific. There is no comparison. It's not even close. Cyclists do not blow through red lights. It does not happen. I rarely stop at stop signs or red lights, but I do so safely on my bike. "Blowing a red light" means riding down the road, encountering a red light at an active intersection where cross traffic has a green light and proceeding through that red light without checking, basically hoping the cross traffic will not hit you. This is suicide. This does not happen. Statistics bear this out. There would be far more dead cyclists than they already are because motorists do not have the skills to avoid these types of collisions. Motorists who say cyclists "blow through red lights" don't know what they are seeing. The cyclist is much more in touch with his/her surroundings than a cager.
I'm evaluating intersections by sight and sound WAY before I get to it. I would never enter an intersection with cross traffic. If I determine there is no cross traffic, I'm proceeding. A bike is not a car and it's silly to treat them the same.

You are right that cyclists who race through an intersection at a red light without regard for traffic wouldn't live long. That doesn't happen much for obvious reasons. I just mean cyclists who don't stop at red lights, especially when there is motor vehicle traffic stopped at that light waiting for it to turn. It just confirms the perception that bicyclists don't follow the rules.

There are two types of cyclists in Tokyo from what I have seen. Road riders that follow the traffic rules and people who have no idea what the rules are. Bikes are a nuisance downtown on the sidewalks.

Thank you, Super-surprise, for getting us back to the business of this thread!

Well done!

I'm going to try to head out on my bike today at some point. Sure wish that my ass looked like the ones in this thread. 🚴*♀️
