show me your tattoos

The dog tattoo is a memorial ... When I look in the mirror, I remember them both.

Jeez....now I'm going to start sobbing again.
I have three memorial tattoos. All small, all clustered together, and all hidden by 99% of the clothing I wear. But I know they are there. They're for my cats...I have had many, and each time one passes, I add a paw print to the line. Right now there are only three, but I will eventually have more; they go down my outer thigh.

All my tattoos have meaning of some sort or another, but the memorial tattoos are very special. I had zero experience with death when the first cat died, and I was heartbroken for weeks. My wife finally suggested a memorial tattoo, and while the actual tattoo process wasn't cathartic (more like OW FUCK), carrying them around with me is. I don't look at them or even think about them much, but when I do, I touch them and remember. "This is Wu." "This is Toadie." "This is Amanita."

In fact, now that I think about it, I love these the best of all my tattoos. They are small and plain, and I do love my other tattoos, but these have the most impact on me on a regular basis.

I have considered having their ashes rubbed in, but I don't know too much about that, so I've avoided it so far.

I have very deep meaning for all of mine too. I went through my first divorce about the same time that I found out my family comes from Wales. The tattoo on my left arm is a wolf paw print (loyal to my kids no matter what) surrounded by thorny vines (I've had a really fucked up life) and the words Brac Bala Awry, which is Welsh for Free From Chains.

Of course the memorial for my dog and father.

The pirate chick is for my school.

The one on my back is about the only woman that I have truly loved, whom I lost for 28 years, only to regain her this past December.

I feel my skin is a canvas that I can tell my story with. I still have 4 tattoos to go before I'm satisfied.

I so love that charm one, it's is really beautiful!

Back when I was pregnant with my first baby my husband was teasing me about how I would start getting mother's day gifts, etc and I told him I would love to get a charm bracelet on my first mother's day and then he could get me a charm every one after that. He nenver did it (that total jerk! LOL) so mabye I'll get a tat of it instead! and make him pay!

Thank you Bill, I love colour, I'm not one of those wear only black type of girls, and the tats kinda show that!
Each flower has a meaning for me, and by the time it is done will trail from my shoulder to over my hip. Cant wait to get it finished now!!

here is the next installment! the detail is amazing, I love this guy's work!

I love sweet daisy may's back piece. I dont know how to link mine, but if you click my name and check 'threads I've started' you can see some. I'm getting a new one on my back this winter, and there will be pics in the future.

I'm at a library computer so I dont have my pics at the ready. If you care to look have at 'er. If not, yes they hurt. yes they are worth it. yes some people will think its shitty. yes some people will love it. it only matters that YOU love it.

Do your homework. Reputable shop, great artist, take great care of it, and be proud of it.

I have decided on *what* I want. Its a sentimental story LOL My childhood was fuckered up, like many. One of the most serene, calm and peaceful memories I have is of playing with my grandmother's nesting dolls when we went to her house during the holidays. That image has been with me my whole life. As an adult, when I see one that strikes me as impressive, I will get it for her. Sometimes the girls and I buy plain ones and paint them.

Anyway, I have decided to get a some nesting dolls. Not sure where on my body. My grandmother, who is the most important person in my family - and is not a cookie baking grandma, but a stern tough Maine woman - is who I consider my family. She turned 90 this week. So I would like to carry something of her, and the love and comfort I found in her, on my body.

ooooooh I love the poppy!

Thank you!!
that one was a bitch to heal! the others healed in days, that took over 2 weeks! I wonder if I reacted to the red ink.....

I do slightly wonder if the rose should be more orangy or a bit darker, but it is a peace rose and they are usually quite delicately coloured.
Not much more to do, a couple of smaller flowers to take it to my hip, i am just having a mental arguement on which to have next, so many pretty flowers and I am running out of space!

I had a hideous mistake of a tattoo that was a "see Daddy, I'm a big girl now" thing done on my 18th birthday that just proved I had more growing up to do, and until about this time last year, I refused to wear (or not wear) clothing that left my right shoulderblade visible. This time last year though, B found an artist that moved to the area and she covered it with a gorgeous butterfly tat. I won't bother posting a pic of it (right now) since it's pretty basic and common but I like it and it's so much better than what was there.

I've had a want for more since she did that one and we're going to go see her tomorrow with ideas and see what's next. I'm so excited! I'm torn between a dragonfly to go with a theme, or a viney full back tat (but am not sure if I'm too much of a little girl for that yet). Whatever I get, I'll post a pic of the collection once it's done.

B claims he's going to get eyes and a moustache above his bellybutton and I pointed out one of the emoticons here and he insists he's using it as a template. Yeah, that one. I pointed out he'd have to shave his belly (except around the moustache) and he said "of course!" Please, God, say he's joking!
