show me your tattoos

I am getting my first tattoo on my left pec/chest shortly, going to see the artist this coming week to discuss it.

I posted this on another tattoo thread, here's the link:

I really like the kiwi one. I think the design is beautiful. I tend to really like designs that are more unusual symbols. They make me wonder what they mean to the person.

I'm glad you explained the meaning behind the African star. Unfortunately for me, I wouldn't have given it much thought without the meaning. I know I should consider the meaning of popular symbols but so many times they are so thoughtlessly used I forget that some people actually use them thoughtfully.

Hi All.

I've been reading here for several weeks now but this is the first time I've posted.

Here's my first (and only) tattoo but definitely not my last! It was an incredible and intense experience...probably because of the symbolism of it mostly. But I realized I enjoyed the pain of the procedure. It freed me from so much emotional pain but it also almost gave me a high.

That's when I began to open my mind up even more to this new lifestyle and I've been moving at a steady pace ever since! :)

I had it done on the one-year anniversary of my husband's death. Here is an explanation of the meaning if you are interested.

I love this board, by the way.

That's beautiful. Welcome to the board.

at the Crucible the other night I saw a woman with one on breast...it was a snake that started on her ribcage and looked like it slitered up her boob towards her nipple. I'd like one along those lines, but not a snake.

I've heard that the ribcage is the most painful place to get a tattoo. I can only imagine because when I got mine, it hurt the most on the spine...especially near the bottom of the tail feathers. A little bony there I guess! :) But I'm in awe of anyone who can sit through something like that!

What did you have in mind instead of a snake?

not really a vine...but a twisty thing. I'm still trying to think....and look at various artwork.

Major cool points in my book for the Phoenix ink. (For obvious reasons.)

That is beautiful work.

And definitely... welcome

It will probably make it somewhat less painful, actually.
Mine, which I'm not photographing because I'm lazy is a hand sized hamsa between my upper shoulder blades on the top of my spine. It hurt past the point of me crying like a bitch and just curling up and shivering for 40 min.

You want some fat there.

Yeah, I had always thought somewhere like the front of the foot or the ribs was going to be sore...but it was nothing compared to each time he went over my spine! lol
Not the best photo, its hard to take one at this angle lol

To be totally honest, I have the one on my spine and that hurt less than my ankle. My ankle I haddnt eaten in awhile and I got really sick to my stomach after he started the outline. My spine for me wasnt bad. My ribs I think is going to be the absolute worst when I get it done.

I finally have photos of them!!

I replied to this a while ago, but didn't have any good photos of my tattoos at the time, and now that I do, I'm going to finally post them!!

-My first tattoo was my Hello Kitty & Dear Daniel back piece.

-My second tattoo was my Robert Frost quote on the back of my neck.
("And that has made all the difference.")

-My third tattoo was the beginning of my chest piece- black and gray swallows below my collar bone.

I have two. One is a crappy black rose (it's old and faded, I still like it though) on my left bicep.

The other is a black outline of the White horse of Uffington just above my left breast. It hurt like a mother as my tattooist said I have very thick skin, plus it is right near a fibromyalgia trigger point

Now I just need to find a design to cover my rubbish tatt!

ohh that's nice!

let's see the rose... is it really that bad?

You should come and visit me one day. Wouldn't we make a cute pair? Both blue eyes redheads! :D

ahh but you are a natural redhead and my eyes aren't really blue ;)

They look really blue in all your pictures.

Do they change in different lighting? Mine do, they look gray in all my pictures, they look green when I wear gray eyeshadow or black clothes, and blue in natural sunlight and indoor lighting.
