Silly thing heard during the Republican debates

I actually watched the whole thing.

I thought Bachmann made a great impression. She came off as the person Palin is in theory. As far as I'm concerned, she won.

Pawlenty did nothing to convince me that he's anything more than a weaselly little try-hard. At least he left the bogus Texas accent at home.

I never paid much attention to Ron Paul. Did he always come off like a sun-crazed old prospector talking to himself, or is that a function of age?

GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

:D

I'm watching the second half now, I agree pretty much with what you are saying and Michelle is the answer to what are you ungodly rednecks going to do with the "unwanted babies."

The moderator acts like he's still in High School. Deep dish or thin crust? REALLY MAN???

Since I disagree with the actual substance across the board, I'm just going on vibes, and Bachmann is the only one who says "leader" to me. She could be an American Thatcher.

What do the sons of the soil think of Tpaw? That guy really rubs me the wrong way on a visceral level.

Not nearly as much as Newt and Mitt...

He strikes me as saying what he means instead of trying to say what he thinks the majority might want to hear.

No, you just do not see it.

We hiked taxes in 1993 and from it (and from nothing else) we got the roaring 1990s internet and dot.com and building booms.

Then along came Bush and his tax cuts - which immediately destroyed all of those gains and the everlasting surplus left behind by higher taxes.

The 2000 .com crash/little recession did not happen, or was caused by the prospect of lower taxes on all of those capital gains (you know, investors running away from low taxes as happens always).

So, the solution is obviously to hike taxes to the Clinton rates and get a new bubble going and fast - before the presidential election wakes us to the new reality - that 7% unemployment is likely the base for full employment for the next 15 years as we readjust to a global economy and foreign labour.

Mitt has a snarky-looking smile, and I even voted for the guy once...

ONCE!!!

Herman looks like everybody's grandpa, but not in a GET OFF MY LAWN sort of a way, but more of a lawn darts and ice tea kind...

"What the hell did you expect to happen, they're lawn darts! Stop crying and put some ice on it!"

Mitt had a sort of bemused, ostentatiously-patient air about him. He reeks of entitlement. Guy doesn't seem to have a bad camera angle though.

The angle from under the bus ain't that good and I have a feeling that that's where I would be if I voted for him, like Bush...

He's the one I'd put up if I were the 'pubs, but since we use this stupid primary system we'll get the one that some obscure farmer in Iowa and some teacher in New Hampshire like.

I think it's the John Edwards hair that's getting to me...

The trouble is it’s all “This or That”. As Newt pointed out, most of the questions posit ridiculous choices: Are you in favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants or are you in favor of deporting 20 million people? Are you in favor of seizing private property in New Hampshire for a Hydro Québec power line or are you in favor of continued oil dependency on psychotic dictators? The remainder fall into cutesie-pie stuff that John King lacks the personality to pull off, and the last embodied in its perfect post-modern stupidity the awfulness of these “debates”: “What have you learned during the past two hours?”

Hmm. What I learned is that John King makes Tim Pawlenty look like Lady Gaga. Other than that, I also got the distimct impression that this season’s debates seem unlikely to be effective forums even for acknowledging the profound and existential crises facing the nation, never mind addressing them.

I can agree on Bachmann, she's tough. One thing for sure, if your perception gains any ground in the media the dirt digging exercise being conducted against Palin will shift to Bachmann.

The thing about Palin is, she's fun for the media to fuck with. She plays along, she gives good drama, she's obviously personally hurt by it, and she hits back in anger.

Bachmann seems like a lot tougher of a target. I've seen other footage of her shrugging off attacks with a smile and some pointed comebacks. She's also way more articulate and polished & professional.

I think I would be personally hurt if they were making shit up like her baby being Bristol's or making jokes about Willow being raped. I would at the very least be angry and have something to say about it rather than taking the high ground and "smiling." You're dealing with people to whom the gutter is a higher ground.

They wouldn't DARE to it to Chelsea Clinton or the Obama daughters, but Republican women, fair game, play on, TALLY HO!

Wait for it.

Bachman is not yet running (before the electorate) for the white house.

Palin jumped directly into the spotlight and McCain did not give her any prep-time for the experience - thus coming off as a twit was assured.

Bachman - has seen the vitriol and has had time to prepare and make sure her act is cleaner and better stated (if it's possible to do that when the world is going to see every communique since 1st grade).

Remember that the Democrats DEMAND that the first female president come from their party and will not stop short of anything to destroy any other female who might endanger that demand.

She announced last night she was running; the gloves will soon be off.

But that is a good point, she has been tipped off; I think making Sarah into the new Bush kinda took a lot of people by surprise, not us though, it took Lavy just an hour or two to begin her full-scale assault with an advanced copy of what were soon to become the party's talking points.
