Slow build setting the scene

Here's my take on build ups. From what everyone has said it's pretty well up to you to do as you like with it, but I look at doing it from another perspective than writing it.
As a storyteller, write it as you would relate it verbally. Imagine yourself telling someone all about this thing that happened and how you describe things to make things clear and understood so they know all the good stuff about it. Your writing will come across the same way if you do it that way and readers will wait for the juicy bits to come. Think of good storytellers and how you enjoy their presentation of it.

That's my take on how to do a build up in the story to get and keep a reader's attention, so it's worth a look at it that way. It seems to work quite well for many, including myself.

It's funny that you say this. That is exactly how I approached my first story, as if it were a conversation between me and someone else. I found it to be very useful I those times when the story didn't quite flow properly or when I became stuck slightly.

As for the build up, I hope that the story/characters/scenario I created would be interesting enough to hold the attention of the reader until the sex starts. Practice makes perfect though, so hopefully I'll get better at it as I write more

Whatever you do, don't get caught up in the H or the score. Its nice to have a good score, but more important that you're happy with your effort and will continue to write.

Sometimes scores can be distracting so always focus on the story first.

I have been interested to see the how much the voting can fluctuate. As a personal sense of achievement I would be happy if the story stayed in the 4 - 4.5 range. However, if it doesn't I know that that is no reflection on me or my story; it's just not everyone's cup of tea. You can't please everyone all the time and it's a mistake to try is a mantra that has served me well in life.

By the way, the vibranium business is going extremely well. Year to date profits are up and end of year projections are healthy!

With regards to my writing, I am focussing on just trying to write as good and interesting a story as possible. Hopefully readers will enjoy it.

That's the right attitude, write for you first and worry about everything else later. Lit has a huge readership and there is a fan for every type of story. After a few stories they will hone in on you and your fan base will grow which helps with scores and votes.
