Songs ruined for you

When I was young my group of friends and I had what I've come to think of as a Pink Floyd summer. All summer, nothing but Pink Floyd. It was the soundtrack to that summer, and it's not a particular summer I like to go back to unfortunately.

Lips of an Angel by Hinder

I hate that song for so many reasons...it’s catchy and I sing along and then I listen to the words and I just get angry. And to hear girls requesting it on the radio thinking it’s a great love song 🙄

The Irish Rovers

Well remebering back who never sang their song in the Car when you were on a road trip fighting in the back seat with your siblings until you had too sing a long . Yes you know the song..The Unicorn ..Because only until recently on here, I now know it also has a different connotation so it is just not quite the same ...

Yes Sad I Know...

Not that I really liked the song to begin with but Like a Rock by Bob Seger was ruined by the Chevy commercials
Over played, overrated horrible Nirvana every time it comes on ruins my ears

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand ... so overused to signal 'evil' in movies/TV. It's actually a great song, but I now skip it whenever it comes up on a playlist/CD because I'm so over it. (Yes, I still listen to CDs.)

Sorry to hear that. It's a great song and I loved it as the theme for peaky blinders. Haven't seen or heard it much elsewhere but I don't watch a lot of horror.

Georgia On My Mind... a classic ruined by my MIL who hummed it for hours while driving with me to Atlanta.

Also, pretty much every Radiohead song. I never really cared for them, but a close friend sang along with 'Creep' one day and I was dying laughing at how uncanny his whiney impersonation was to the original. I can't unhear it.

Sorry. Won't happen again☺

For me it's Come On Eileen and the one hit wonder Dexy's Midnight Runners.
Song was everywhere when I was in college. I used to DJ parties and it was requested everywhere I worked, multiple plays on the juke box at all the bars etc. I never loved the song but I liked it and then I hated it.

Also, the Electric Slide. 🤮

Hallelujah - by Leonard Cohen.

I love the song but it has been used and mangled relentlessly for decades now.

As a songwriter and musician it's can be rough when you have a great song that people want to hear over and over again. I started to dread it when I'd hear people yelling their requests.

Never Say Goodbye - Bon Jovi

A smooth faced, braces wearing, sixteen year old was macking on a sweet fifteen year old at the teen club and got some tongue, finally, to this song. Only to have said fifteen year old drop Crank to get back with her older, cooler, nappy mustached ex at the end of the night. Fuck Bon Jovi!

Cruise—Georgia Florida Line

The only saving Grace to this song is it was written by Chase Rice. I really don’t like this band.

Dont know if it was really ruined for me because it was already probably overplayed but One Headlight by the Wallflowers. The bar scene in King Of Staten Island where the firefighters are drunk and singing and fucking up the lyrics. All I can think about when I hear it now.

All the high school theater kids completely ruined Rent for me, especially "Seasons of Love" by singing it non-stop in 1996-97. 25 years later I still can't stand it.
