I'm so glad that you didn't say mojitos. Mint juleps are the classic Southern Belle cocktail.
I'll go muddle some mint leaves and prepare your drink.
Good bourbon on the rocks for me though.

That's just it; it's a Cuban drink.
Southern Belles drink southern whiskey, that one and only true American spirit, to whit: bourbon.
If you're trying to impress the ladies in the clubs, go ahead and buy them a mojito. But if I was meeting tweetygal at the pool, she gets a mint julep...and whatever else she wants. Southern women don't beat around the bush when it comes to their wants and desires.

While I agree bourbon is typical of the south, I know better than to assume what the lady wants. As you so aptly stated, southern women will tell me what they want. If they want a gin and tonic, then they shall have it. Should they prefer a bourbon, I'll gladly oblige. So long as she is satisfied, who am I to tell her what to drink?

I wish I knew more about bourbon. I went to a few distilleries on the Kentucky bourbon trail, and I tried several. At one distillery, I tried two. I was told that I should notice the vanilla in one, and something else in the other. They felt different in my mouth, but one tasted of bourbon, and the other tasted of more bourbon.
Both were good, but I find that while Ii can taste a five dollar bourbon from a twenty dollar one, I can't tell twenty from one hundred. All the better, I suppose. My wallet can tell, even if I cannot.

2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water
Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.
Simply ask; I'll get it for you. Is it common for men to compete for your attentions?

Not many bars keep silver goblets in the fridge for this.
I'll stop at the restaurant supply place tomorrow and pick up a couple.
You know, in case any ladies decide they'd like to watch the Kentucky Derby in Florida on tv with me someday.

No need for a goblet for me. I am a simple girl. I'll take mine in a plastic cup - out by the pool - and I'm not a Kentucky Derby fan either - but I will watch a good football game with you every now and then - and yes I am a Dolphins fan - quit laughing...
