Star Trek TNG: The Magic of Our Past

Kyla

Kyla stepped out of her house and shook out her dust rag. She had spent the morning cleaning, like she did every day. She walked over to the stream and dipped her hands into the cool water, taking a sip and splashing some on her face. Looking up to the sky, she saw the sun shinning brightly and the twin moons in the background. It was going to be a beautiful day.

B'Elanna Tores

Back on Voyager B'Elanna continued to work on ways to reroute power from other sources on the ship.

Tapping her com badge " Captian we might have a problem. The warp core is starting to distableize. We need those dilithium crystals if we are going to be going anywhere. If we don't move soon the force of any gravitational pull will compleatly destroy the core in the state that it is in now."

She wondered if Seven of nine would have any borg technology that would hep them at any moment.

She hoped a break would come soon. She and Tom had not had any personal time together for weeks now.
It was about time for a break and soon

Chakotay

Went over to the Captain. "Can I see you inyuor ready room a moment." We walked in to the ready room. "I have anothere idea for cutting down on power use. I say that we move all crew quarters to one deck. Have people share rooms. That way we can shut powers off to some of the deck and save powers. Also shut down some of the Turbo lifts. This might mean a delay in time getting around the ship. But if we run out of power a few minutes won't matter eithere way. I know these thing may seem extrme. But extreme times call for extreme measures."

Capt. Picard

"Starfleet Security has been unable to confirm that the Dominion is involved in any way in the disappearance of the Tesla. Obviously, however, it is impossible for them to confirm that they weren't. If it turns out, Number One, that the Dominion is responsible, then our first priority will be to search for evidence, and get that information back to Starfleet. We are out a very long way from the core of Federation space, and I really don't think we want to launch a retaliatory strike on our own..."

Picard looked up and down the table, "Mr. LaForge, I would like you to assist Mr. Data in reconfiguring the sensor arrays when we know more about the conditions within the nebula. Ah yes, there is one more thing. The Admiral has ...requested... that we rendevoux with a Fleet Marine, one Colonel Dufray. Admiral Jenkins asked this as a favor to her, as Dufray is a close friend of hers and her son's. Mr Worf, I understand that the Colonel was posted on DS9 while you were there. I would appreciate it if you would work with him during his stay with us, and ensure he understands that I will not tolerate the typical Marine ...enthusiasm... on my ship, or my mission."

"Does anyone have anything else to add?"

Ransitar

Ransitar looked levelly at Sorkorin as Sarina spoke. What an arrogant fool, he thought. He wished that Sarina had not stopped the spell. He would have loved for Sorkorin to stumble across his little secret. Destroy everything? Can't he understand that we have to save everything? No, he just sits there, so contemptuous of the others. Yes, Sorkorin, how would you lead us? How would you open the floodgates and destroy our world?

He flushed angrily and looked down the table at the others. Hmph, just sheep for the slaughter.

LaForge

"Captain," said Geordi. "the nebula's around twenty parsecs away. At warp eight we could be there in about twenty-three days, not counting the rendezvous. How quickly do you want us to arrive?"

Janeway

I sighed and tapped my combadge. One of these days I would only have to deal with one problem at a time. At which point I probably wouldnt know what to do.

"This is Janeway, do your best and keep us together long enough get us to that planet. Nurse those engines if you have to wrap them up and feed them chicken soup. We dont have a choice in this."

Tapping my combadge once again, I said,"Seven of nine..assist B'Ellana in engineering. I will try to take it easy on the engines from my station but I am going to need both of you working together to get us safely to that planet."

And hope that we dont run into anyone who has a grudge against us or is looking to start one. Turning to Chakotay, I said,"Do it. I want every measure taken that can be taken. I leave it in your capable hands."

Capt. Picard

"I want to maintain the highest speed possible, without over-taxing the engines, Mr. LaForge. Please run simulations for the effects of an extended run at Warp factor 8.7. I'd like to get there in under 3 weeks, if at all possible."

Riker

"I have nothing else at this time Captain." I reply.

I turn to Deanna and smile as our eyes lock.

Not wanting to get in trouble, I turn my attention back to the Captain.

Peros

I shrug and look intently at Sarina, who seems to be attempting to at least start the meeting in an orderly manner. My eyes catches the bickering Sorkorin and Ransitar and say with a great laugh(Having broken into the mead well earlier)

"I have to be with Sorkorin on this one, Old boy. We simply don't know enough about this to act so impulsively." I shift in my seat. Oh why do this ancient council seats have to be so small.

Chakotay

I let the ready room. I walked over to Tuvok and hand him a new crew room list." I want you to start on this immedialty. Plus you will be on away team when we reach the planet." I walked over to the Turbo lift.Got on final got to the right floor and went to enginering where B'Elanna and Seven where working. I walked up to them." B'Elanna, Seven when we get to the planet i want you to go down with me. I will be the two of you and Tuvok."

Tuvok

I went and passed the list to all the department heads."This must be started immedialty. If there are any complaints. Tell them to contact the captain or commander." It took time but they got everyone to share rooms. I went down to enginering. I walked up to B'Elanna. She was speaking with the commander.I waited for them finish.

B'Elanna

"Yes commander" returning to her station.

"Another obstcle between tom and I. at least I would be away from all this stress and commotion." thinking outloud.

Seven was in the process of adding bourg technology to the warp coils and downloading a bit of cardassian energy concervation information into the computers. Finally the shaking of the engine room stoped for the first time during her shift. Just then Ensing kim entered to take his shift on the engeneering deck.

B'Elanna left to go and get some sleep before her away mission. A hot shower sounded good as well. Maybe she would find Tom to give her a back rub, or some one

Sarina and the Councel of Toril

Sarina's hand was thrown up into the air and a booming noise echoed in the chamber, quieting each of them down. She leaned her weary frame against the table,"We are not here to fight amongst ourselves. We need the strength of the whole councel to get through this. We all know what happened to those foolish enough to balk at our traditions. What we need to do is find a way for the influence of the outsiders to become nill and void. How do we avoid what destroyed those who dared to think that our ways were not good enough."

I passed the scrolls around to each council member and bid them open them. Each of these contains all the facts that we have been able to get out of our 'guests'." Sorkorin insisted on calling them prisoners as they were 'housed' in the dungeon. However they were fed and treated not unkindly...simply with a kind of weariness.

"I want recommendations from all of you on how to handle this situation. And I am aware that not all opinions are the same so I want each of you to respect what the others have to say as they will you when it is your turn."

Ransitar

ooc: Note that he has not spoken to anyone yet but Sarina, although his expression may have revealed his thoughts.

ic: Ransitar slowly straightened as Peros spoke. He picked up the scroll and regarded it. "Once again," he said softly. "the council has swayed to the opposition without giving reason a chance to speak. If I may have that chance...?" Sarina nodded carefully with a look of warning.

"Sarina is correct," he said. "Our history reveals a harsh lesson and it would be wise to heed it. We have examined the heavens for tens of millennia and what have we found? That we alone possess the True Knowledge. The rebels of our past, though proven impulsive in hindsight, nevertheless showed us the futility, the danger of allowing our heritage to be polluted." Ransitar stood and began to slowly pace around the table. "The gutter races of this galaxy destroyed the rebels. You have all read the final desperate message from Rathmus. This...Technology...it twisted and overwhelmed the rebels in their ignorance. Ultimately, all traces of the Art were diluted and washed from their seed, and the bastard prodigy that remain on their world have turned against their heritage and aim to destroy it, as they destroyed Rathmus."

He gestured and an image appeared hovering over the council table. "This is their weapon. This is the first wave of the coming invasion." Some of the council leaned forward to look closer at the illusion. They had all seen the Tesla, but it was still fascinating. Ransitar nodded as he walked. "Yes, you can feel it. It's new, it is alien, it even has an elegance of design. But it has weapons capable of mass slaughter, and its crew are the descendants of those that slew Rathmus and the remains of his council. Remember that his message was sent with ancient magic. In the ages that it took to reach us, this Technology has advanced in the hands of his murderers. Now this ship has found us, and we have only begun to examine its potential. What do you think its crew would have done if we had not captured them?" He had reached his seat and stood next to it. "They would have told their masters. And then our veil would be ripped away and they would come in force to steal our secrets, to corrupt our society, and to finish the task that they have sought for so long."

He gestured towards the image floating before them. "This cannot be allowed to return to its home. It would invite disaster. I have no personal ill feelings for its crew. We could learn from them more of their history, and thus strengthen our defenses. We must learn from the past, else we may repeat it. None of us want confrontation. We want to be left alone, as we always have been, to pursue our own destiny and not have it written for us. Let the crew remain as our guests. Let us learn what we can from this ship, in the interests of defending against others like it that may come in search. And then let us remove all traces of it so that no one might be tempted again to walk that dark path." He clenched his fist and the image of the Tesla crumpled and vanished in a silent explosion, and Ransitar settled back into his seat.

Sorkorin

Guests! As if we'd open our homes to these fellows, and shared our food and bevereage with them. We keep them locked up in our worst cells, hidden from the rest of the world, afraid of what the 'peasents' will think of them if they see them.

'How do we know that these people are a threat to us?', I ask the council. 'Just being in contact with these creatures for a few moments I can sense the fear in the hearts and minds. If they fear us they will strike back at us, destroy eveything that we have labored for eons to build. It is better to befriend them to control , for they came in peace.'

I get up and start pacing the room. 'Sarina', I start, ' you are as capable as I at the emotional arts. Go down there yourself, read their thoughts, their emotions. Dont take my word for it.'

I moved back down to my seat at the table looking at Ranistar. Damned puppet on a string.

Dufray, enroute

Dufray sat in the Shuttle looking over the current messeges. not much there just a simple rescue mission. "Ah, Marine never knows the word simple. Compuer who is currently on the Enterprise?" The computer chimes then begins listing it's crew. "computer I mean Senior Staff."

The computer responds.
"Capt. Picard, Com. Riker, Com. Troi, Dr. Crusher, Com. La Forge, Lt. Barkley, and Com. Worf."

Dufray smiled and shaked his head "Worf, great. his first words will be (in worf's voice) you must follow Starfleet Security on this one Dufray. Worf my boy you have no Idea."

The shuttle moved into warp heading for the enterprise.

Tom Paris

As I grab a wrench to tighten the last bolt that holds the carburetor down, I see that the room shimmers before distorting, becoming the sterile walls of the holodeck. Looking down, the tan mechanic style overalls and the grease are gone, I am standing there in my Starfleet uniform.

"Computer reactivate Paris program alpha 1-5 delta." I say. "Negative, unable to comply." the female voice of the computer replies.

"Computer, what is the problem?" I question. "The holodeck is seen as a burden to new energy saving measures in affect." the machine replies.

"I knew things were bad, but this must mean things are getting terrible." I think aloud, as I walk to my quarters.

Changing into my overalls, I replace my communicator on my chest before tapping it. "B'Elanna I am headed to the shuttle bay to look over the Flyer, call me if you need anything." I say as I start towards the Delta Flyer's shuttle bay.

B'Elanna

Deciding to change her destination, B'Elanna quickly hurried down to meet up with Tom and surprise him.

"Lt. Paris, how much longer will the repairs take" she said in a very comanding voice.

Shocked, he turned around to find her standing there.

"When are you relieved from your dutied. One can't wait forever. I will be heading out on the away mission with Commander Charkotay as soon as we get to the planet, and we never know how long it will be till I return."

Peros

"I'm afraid I have to agree with Sorkorin on this one." I say, my previous mirth replaced by a look of utter seriousness.

"However, I should think that we should keep them at arms length. Perhaps we should just allow them to leave and wash our hands of the whole affair, we don't want to have to deal with any of our Captive's allies who may come looking for them. Better to free them now without any harm done and hopefully this will all be a distant memory."

As I say the words "harm done" I shoot an accusatory stare at Ransitar, I've never liked him and would not trust him with the proper treatment of anyone. They truly should be let free, I thought. It was merely the right thing to do.

"And besides, more inquisitive interlopers could only multiply the danger in this situation."

Ransitar

"Those 'interlopers' are going to come no matter what we do," Ransitar shot back. "Yes, we can wash their minds of our memory and place them and their ship far from here to wander home. But what of the ship? We know nothing about how it works, nor what information about us it contains. The prisoners have been treated in accordance with our laws. We can discuss modifying their status at a later time. Right now the danger is that ship!" Sarina tried to speak, but he barreled forward. "To hope that 'no harm will be done' is the same false hope that doomed the rebels of old. We need answers, not a blind eye." He sat back and looked at Sarina, nodding a curt apology.

Tom Paris

Jumping slightly as B'Elanna sneaks up behind me, I spin around and face her.

"Well I could use your assistance, one of the bulkheads can use some examinating." I say to her with a wink. "as far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with it, just doing some preventive maintenance on the ship. It needs to be ready for anything at anytime. We could 'experience' what they called parking in the mid to late 20th century also, taking care of two things at once." I say with a smile.

Data

"The nebula is 52.233 light years distant from our present location. At warp eight, if we can safely maintain that speed for the journey, we should reach the outskirts of the nebula in 18 days, 14 hours, 50 minutes and 47 seconds Captain" I said.

Tom Paris

"Wait a second B'Elanna, what away mission on which planet?" I ask. "I need to cut out half of my holodeck time, so I can stay up to date on current happenings." I think to myself.

Sorkorin

'How can an object hurt us?', I ask as I glare at Ransitar. 'It is but an object like this table. Without the people at the controls, it does nothing. But it seems like the head of the council has already made up her mind about how she would like this handled." I look at Sarina as I state this trying to judge her reaction.

She just looks at me, staring into my eyes, daring me to continue.

'If noone else has a opinion on this, I suggest we bring this matter to a vote for the council. I fear for what might happen, but trying to convince people who have already made up their mind does not interest me. A vote then?'
