Starspeaker IC (Closed for silvertongue217)

"Some one give me some bloody answers!"

The Commander barged into the control hub sending every one scattering to their stations. Their command ship was currently hiding in an asteroid field not to far from the site of the "event".

"Does any one know what happened?" The commander asked striding to the center and crossing her arms.

"Ma'am" One of the technicians said turning and saluting "initial scans and data suggest the planet was sucked dry we have trace bits of ozone and some rubble but the planet is simply gone"

"Is this the new super weapon the empress acquired?" The Commander asked narrowing her eyes at the screen.

"We have no idea" One of her agents said "the empress sent you the message warning of the invaders it could possibly be them"

The commander sighed pinching the bridge of her nose "we need answers and only one guy has it"

"We need to bring in Jase Crestfield"

Vera room the tray with a grateful thanks, until she heard what Jase said.

"Kicking whose arse?" Vera asked. Before he could reply Kryten did for him.

"Mr Crestfield got into a fist fight with a guard on Dock 3," Kryten informed her. "Private Lawrence, mam. Captain Frisk has already talked to Mr Crestfield about the issue. If you check your inbox you'll find a request for further action waiting."

Vera groaned as she sat back, the tray of food now sitting forgotten on a side table. She rubbed her forehead and closed her eyes.

"Seriously Jase?" She asked, ignoring his other comments. "Why the frack would you go and do that?"

"Technically he threw the punch" Jase told her crossing his arms "I went to check on the Falcon and get some things" he said gesturing at the food "and was told I could not see my own ship since it was property of PEACe know and I was some low life smuggler"

"And then what did you do Jase" Samantha said appearing behind Vera and crossing her arms.

"Then I asked very politely-" Jase began to say before Samantha growled "Fine I asked him if I was still a lowlife smuggler if I was fraking the empress and he punched me"

"Oh for frack sake Jase!" Vera groaned, getting tk her feet and walling over to the window, staring at the planet below, her food all but forgotten. "All you had to do was asked and I would have granted you access immediately. I thought you had a thicker skin than that too, if you really are interested in being General then you're going to need to get used to worse!" Vera shook her head, turning to face him once more, a frown tugging at her lips.

"Abd telling him you were fracking me? I am not some random soldier to them Jase, I am their Chancellor. If they think that I am fracking someone who has so little respect for me to go talking about me like that..." Vera sighed, her eyes alighting on him.

"Look, I know this is new. It will take time to get used to. I can't even imagine how hard it is, but Jase, you cant go around doing that sort of shit without landing us both in hot water! Give it a rest okay?"

"So what every one can think im a stooge who only has authority because you give it to me?" Jase countered watching her get up. He knew what he had said was wrong but instead he focused on his anger at the entire situation.

"I shouldn't have to ask you for access to my ship" Jase growled narrowing his eyes "and if I am supposed to be by your side or hell even a general how the hell is that supposed to work when im just smuggler scum?"

"I am sorry I put our buisness out like that" Jase said shifting on one foot "but your talking about me becoming general? These men will never respect me or consider me to be some one to follow orders from you know that" he said glaring at her "I am either smuggler scum or the lap dog of yours who has to run to you to ask for permission for things"

"You've just woken up Jase! You've been conscious for just over twenty four hours! If you want their respect, I'm sorry, but your going to have to earn it! Perhaps instead of getting into a fist fight you can fins something that will show then that there is a reason i'm fracking you!". Vera walked over to him and poked him in the chest.

"I want you as General, and the council will back it. You just gave to harden up nd show these people what you're really made of. No more petty, searching for trouble shit, Jase. Solve your problems like an adult."

"Starspeaker will be here in ten minutes ma'am." Kryten announced.

Jase glared at her for several minutes before sucking in a deep breath

"fine" He finally said shaking his head "Fair point and im sorry" He said turning and stalking over to the door.

"but I havent agreed to be your general yet" Jase reminded her opening the door. He jumped back his eyes widening at the alien who came in.

"so your the guy we spent two months looking for across the universe eh?" He said eyeing the alien up and down.

"nice to meet you" Jase said holding out his hand.

Starspeaker arrived, cutting off their conversation. Vera was glad for Jase's apology, but she knew they still had so much more to say. Starspeakers stared at Jase for a moment, blinking, before holding his hand out for him to shake.

"You're looking much better than the first time I saw you," Starspeaker said with a nod.

"Please, come in," Vera said, gesturing to her suite. "Dinner should be waiting for us in the dining room."

Vera's stomach protested as she turned her back on Jase's food and made for the dining room. It would be rude for her to eat something different to what she offered Starspeaker.

When they were seated at the table Vera smiled at Starspeaker.

"Jase only just woke up yesterday, so I haven't had a good chance to exlpain everything you told him about the risk that Hive presents. Would you mind?" Vera asked, gesturing to Starspeaker and Jase to take a seat as she did herself.

Despite the lacklustre food prepared by the PEACe kitchen, Vera sighed in appreciation as she finally took something in to fill her hungry body.

"Most certainly" Starspeaker said nodding his head politely before turning to Jase.

"Like most planets the universe has a series of checks and balances cosmic things to keep us in force" Starspeaker began reciting a speech he clearly had practiced over and over again "The hive was the universes way or making sure no one got to big to powerful they are systematic and ancient cosmic entities that wipe every thing away but the lowliest of species they come when a society or group of societies get to advanced and then dissapear waiting to do it all over again"

"But they have changed"

"Some time before my time they had a change of ways a new way of thinking they no longer wanted to prevent some species from rising to far now they wanted to make sure it never happened again and so their mission changed from extermination to genocide my people fought them but we werent prepared and even with our advanced technology we were unable to do nothing but learn about them and keep them at bay"

"I am still having trouble convincing the other half of PEACe of Hive's existence,' Vera explained to Starspeaker. "I might have found a way to make gain with the rebels, but I am still working on some possibilities for that," She gave Jase a pointed look.

"Please let me know if I can be of assistance, Chancellor," Starspeaker offered. Vera shook her head.

"I fear exposing you right now might unduly risk your life." Vera said.

"That is my purpose, Chancellor," Starspeaker said with a sad but grateful smile."My people, my family, they sacrificed themselves so that I may continue, so that I may be the warning to those who Hive targeted next. I am less concerned with my own life than I am with the continued existence of life in the universe at large." Starspeaker took some of his own food. "You have your own family to consider as well. A universe safe for your child to grow up in."

Vera's eyes snapped up, zeroing in on Starspeaker. She hadn't told him of her predicament. Unless he overheard Sam and her arguing about something on the Falcon?

"Your secret is safe with me," He said with a shrug,"I am not so ignorant that I have missed the basic signs you are showing."

"Honestly your not going to be able to keep it secret for very long" Jase pointed out ot her "if a ancient alien from before our time knows the basic signs a woman is showing you can surely bet others are going to start noticing soon"

He leaned back regarding her and shaking his head "I worry about you and the baby once they learn your pregnant are you sure they arent going to do any thing to force you to lose it?" He said nodding at the doorway.

Vera's hand pressed against her stomach at Jase's words.

"I have tight security around here," Vera started, "but there is still a risk." Vera took a deep breath, clearing her anxieties from her mind. "I want the Rebels and the other half of PEACe on board before it becomes common knowledge. I think there will be much less risk that way."

"then we better get to work on that" He said sighing and shaking his head "I am not sure you will ever convince the rebels to join up not without them seeing just how bad the threat is"

He finished his food and pushed the plate away turning to star speaker "what was your job? In your time?"

Starspeaker's smile was a melancholy one.

"Much the same as the Chancellor's," he replied "I understand the challenges you face. I only hope that I can help you to move faster than we did."

"At this point we should be thanking you that you were even here ot begin with" Jase remarked "It cant have been easy to hide out in wait and bide your time when your people were being destroyed"

He patted the man on the shoulder and looked over at Vera "So were you going to ask me?" He asked grinning.

"Ask you what?" Vera asked Jase, watching his exchange with Starspeaker with amusement at his ease and familiarity with the being.

"uh the thing you asked me when you came in?" Jase said raising an eyebrow and folding his arms "or am i not allowed to be a fancy pants general because I got in a fight?" he asked teasingly.

"The job is yours if you want it Jase," Vera said in all seriousness, "You just have to promise to work on your bedside manner."

"My bedside manner?" Jase asked raisin an eyebrow "is there some thing wrong with how I treat you in bed?" He asked completely ignoring the alien company.

Vera rolled her eyes, ignoring the jibe. Starspwaker had a small smile but made no comment.

"So you'd be willing to meet with the other parties to help me convince them of the threat?" Vera asked.

"I will do whatever it takes to see that this universe survives." He agreed. Vera couldn't imagine being in his place, surviving his own family and time, alone in a distant future. She made a promise to herself that she would not let his sacrifice go in vain.

The rest of dinner passed quietly, with Starspeaker excusing himself as soon as they were done, claiming he needed the rest, though Vera knew he did so for her benefit. She slumped back in her seat when e left, yawning as she looked at Jase.

"If you really want to be General I will buy you some super fancy pants as a welcoming gift." She teased.

Jase walked the alien out clapping his back right before he left before closing the door behind him. He came back over noting Vera hunched in her chair and shaking his head.

"no pants and no uniform" he said glaring at her even though there was a smile on hi face "plus there are going to be some changes made to this ship" he said coming over to her. He reached out stroking her face for a few seconds before he picked her up and carrier her to their bedroom.

"now you going to let Samantha manage your schedule so you get more rest?" He asked raisin an eyebrow.

"No pants? At all? That wont go down well," Vera teased. She laughed when he scooped her up into his arms. "I can still walk you know," She told him Then she sighed, relaxing in his hold. "Samantha and I can work something out tomorrow."

"we will indeed" Samantha replied in both of their heads causing Jase to chuckle

"good both of you ladies can have fun with each other" Jase said laying her down in the bed "and you know what I meant by no pants" he said sticking his tongue out before going over to his side of the bed.

"cant believe you talked me into it" he murmured sliding into bed.

"It wasn't really that difficult," Vera said with a laugh as she snuggled up to his side, resting her head against his chest.

"Kryten, I think we can give Mr. Crestfield one more sleep in before the serious work begins. Do you mind switching off the room alarm for tomorrow?" She asked.

"Alarm switched off Ma'am," Kryten replied.

"Sam? Do you mind waking me up instead? That way Jase can get his beauty sleep?"

"Sure," Sam replied, "Anything else your highness?" She added, but with more of a joke than annoyance.

Vera ignored Sam and closed her eyes, thinking about the meetings she had tomorrow and just how she was going to concrete Jase's position as General with the council.

Jase leaned down kissing the top of her head "Samantha wake me up when she wakes up" Jase thought to her. He waited for her to confirm before he curled up with her wrapping his arms around her before letting himself drift off as well. He slept freely and without any trouble keeping her close and protecting her even in his sleep.
